Evan Peters has confirmed Hans Zimmer will score X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

“[The set] was actually very tame. Simon directed this one, and came in very prepared, very professional. It was a different energy on set and everything got done like clockwork. It was very seamless. Everybody was a little bit more level-headed, so it was a very pleasurable, light experience. I think the film is gonna be incredible. Hans Zimmer’s scoring it—I don’t know if I was supposed to say that or not. Simon has surrounded himself with incredible people, and Simon knows this world better than anybody, so it was just cool to see him—he’s so happy and in his element in that world, and also being able to direct and guide everybody in this way. I was very happy for him and I think it’s gonna be great.”

This is a great choice imo. Zimmer never disappoints.

Huh. That's interesting. I thought Han was walking away from CBMs.

Which makes this move interesting. Has he seen something in Dark Phoenix he likes?

it is quite a coup for them to get him. quite honestly zimmer shouldn't have done bvs after doing dark knight tirlogy just like danny elfman shouldn't have done justice league after doing burton batman films.

My god, can you imagine "Interstellar" level music on this film, especially the space scene?

Not really a fan of Zimmers CBM work. Maybe it’s just cause he’s worked on so many bad ones.

But LOL at the clear studio notes/talking points every cast member has gotten. It’s like I’m reading the same interviews over and over again...

imagine that zimmer score over the arrival of phoenix

Yeah, not gonna lie. Zimmer is perfect for a Dark Phoenix movie. If they're gonna go all out with the chaos and destruction.

Guess that "I'm retiring from superhero" business was all for naught. I suppose the large check he received was too good to turn down though. This is rather unexpected too. At this rate Zimmer will score every franchise in existence.

He's walking away from arthouse comic book movies. :woot:

Just came across this bit of news on Film Music Reporter. And am not excited at all. Aside from AS-M2 his superhero scores don't impress me. I knew it was all talk from him about retiring from scoring anymore superhero movies after BvS. It seems it didn't take much to bring him back. They should've just kept Ottman. And as much as I don't care for Henry Jackman's X-Men First Class score they should've brought him back if they didn't/couldn't get Ottman because this'll most likely be the last film in this current franchise. It would've came full circle back to Jackman. But whatever. I don't think Zimmer will be as involved and will most likely rely on his collaborators to take over.

Jackman could've been great but I'm tired of Ottman's theme

It's always nice to see someone well known join the film. I wonder if he would come up with his own theme for the X-Men, like Powell did in X3.

I don't know if Zimmer could make a difference to Kinberg's vision for the film. But at least they didn't hire a first time composer for this film.

My god, can you imagine "Interstellar" level music on this film,

No I can't.

The excellence of a composer is highly dependent on the director he or she is collaborating with.

And Kinberg is not Nolan.

Yeah that's a very good point.

Though I really like Ww's movie theme that debuted in bvs and that movie sucked. I think this could be one of those films that Imight appreciate when it comes to technical side.

Either they signed a big cheque for him or there's something that interests him about the movie.

Pretty good news. It's just as likely they signed a big check, but as I suspect they're spending less on this than XMA, I am going to hope that he was genuinely impressed by some assemblage of footage. It might then give credence to this being a different kind of superhero movie since Zimmer said a few years ago that he couldn't find anything fresh to say about typical superhero movies.

At the very least, I expect some epic drums when she goes nova. :)

there have been rumors dark phoenix is actully biggest budgeted x-men film ever. which is partly why they are waiting for special effects to be ready before showing any footage.

I don't know how to...I'm speechless, on the one hand I do love Zimmer's scores, from the obvious ones to the obscure ones, on the other hand we all know what he's bringing to the movie and that is non-stop background dissonant drummy beats, and this is very much likely the last X-Men movie to be (loosely) connected to the first X-Men movie back in 2000, and yeah this will probably be the most Michael Kamen sounding X-men since the first one, but Hans Zimmer isn't one to use old themes from other composers, so it makes me sad that this last movie won't have any of the original cast members, nor any of the already established musical themes from the old movies, at the very least the we should have an encore of the John Ottman theme that's been in three movies already, and I don't see that happening.
