It's strongly rumored that Spider-Man will be joining the MCU. Introducing him in a Civil War adaptation is the perfect introduction to Spidey. Do you all think it will happen?

I sincerely hope not. Civil War was responsible fot the past 7 years of mediocre to crappy Spider-Man stories.

The rumors of Marvel & Sony making a deal came just a week before this news, I'm thinking they're true & the fan reaction to Civil War happening will make Sony go with the deal.

Big indicators are that Marvel Comics is greatly increasing the number of Spider-Man comics beginning in 2015 (starting with the new Civil War arc). While the X-Men (specifically Wolverine) and the Fantastic Four are getting pretty much shelved.

It's clear to me that Sony is playing ball seeing as their attempts have been utterly disastrous.

I honestly think Spider-Man is coming back to Marvel/Disney. Parker is a crucial element for Civil War, sure you could work around it but he's a big part of it. Even if he doesn't appear in Civil War I do think he'll be back for something after that...

If they fire Avi Arad, then things may start looking up for Spidey, regardless of whether he'll join the MCU or not.

Hope so. As others have said Civil War is a good time for Spidey to join. He needs a film boost right now as well. Positive Spidey news would only be a good thing for the character on screen.

As someone who didn't believe any of those past rumors of Spider-Man joining the MCU just to join the Avengers because he didn't belong there at all, this is something that makes sense.

Secret identities aren't really an important thing for any of the MCU superheroes so far, it's really something important to Spider-Man in a way that it isn't for many characters. Having him spring up and be challenged by that and these guys would be something pretty logical.

At this point in time, Sony's Spider-Man plans seem to still have gone to shambles- and this would be a sounder plan than anything they're coming up with on their own.

But most of the core of Spidey's arc in "Civil War" is based on previous relationships and partnerships with both Cap and Tony. It will feel hollow and rushed to introduce him and have him be conflicted in the same movie. And while I think it's difficult to pull it off, I trust Marvel to make us care and make Spidey feel as an organic part to the MCU

It's just hard to imagine it working the same way as in the comics. I can't see Sony wanting a separate Marvel continuity for Spider-Man. That's competition, not synergy. But I also can't see unmasking Spider-Man as fitting in their plans just yet. It doesn't seem the timing is right (although I didn't think the timing was right for Civil War anyway).

Hopefully Disney gets Spider-Man back before this happens. Most don't want The Sinister Six, Venom or that female crap. The only way this happens is if Disney owns Spider-Man. Or they replace him with someone else

This image is literally Tony and Steve pulling Spidey back from the evil Sony-verse

So let's say Faraci is right: Sony will recast Spidey and he'll appear in MCU. Then... who should play him?

Personally I'd think about Josh Hartnett

Not a fan of that choice. He's older than Evans and Hemsworth and just as tall as Hemsworth.

I don't see this happening. Seems a bit late as far as production side of things go, they've been writing since February and start shooting around April next year. If they were banking on this being a thing they'd kinda be f***ed if it fell through.

EDIT: Also, yeah Hartnett is 36, way too old for [a rebooted] Spidey.

Part of the rumor is that Civil War starts in Cap 3 and boil over to other movies especially Avengers 3.

You can't do Civil War without Spidey. Spidey revealing his identity was the biggest part of Civil War.

I doubt he'd reveal his identity anyway

Id love for that to happen. Sadly it won't.

Who's identity will they reveal? Cap has an exhibit in the Smithsonian. Iron Man told the world he's Iron Man. Black Widow dumped all of SHIELD's info so there's Black Widow & Hawkeye. Thor is Thor and Hulk is smashing everything.

Do they have to? Its supposed to about more than just identity

If Disney gets him back I guess they can pull a Batfleck & they can always do an already in action Spidey & skip the origins this time

Don't do it. Chances are, Avi Arad will come along for the ride with any licensing deal. Do you want him in the mix as a co-producer?

Avi is with Sony doing other projects like a Metal Gear Solid film, an Uncharted film.

If Sony gives the rights back, Avi won't be involved in going to the MCU. He's working for Sony.
