As you know, Iron Man had a huge $98,618,668 opening weekend. But it seems TDK may have a chance to get there, lets see why:

"The Dark Knight" tickets have been a hot commodity since they first went on sale on Friday, June 20 at Fandango.com. As of this morning, the film is outpacing "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull", "Iron Man" and "Sex and the City" as Fandango's fastest ticket-seller of this summer.
"We are currently seeing a surge in advance ticket sales for 'The Dark Knight'," says Ted Hong, vice president of marketing for Fandango. "It makes sense that there's a rush for tickets, as it's the perfect movie to see on the big screen, as supported by our strong ticket sales for both traditional screens and the larger format in IMAX ®. We believe the film is appealing to both comic book and action fans, as well as casual moviegoers."

The late Heath Ledger's potentially Oscar®-worthy performance as The Joker in "The Dark Knight" was cited as top reason for seeing the movie, according to 53% of respondents to Fandango's online survey of moviegoers in June.

A lot of people believe is impossible, but I don't think is the case anymore, TDK has a real shot of having a bigger opening than IM, the movie is having better reviews and Heath's Joker is one of the greatest villains ever, some critics are even talking about a posthumous Oscar for his performance. If TDK has an opening weekend of $100m or more, some will loose a few bets. ;)

Pretty sure it will beat it easily.

The real question is if it will beat SM3's opening...it will easily beat Iron Man.

Who cares?
Do you really care?
If it makes 9 more dollars than Iron Man made are you going to pump your fist in the air?

ehhhhhh the oscars again.

TDK will cure cancer :whatever:

Thing is do they go off USA only or international release because SM3 was released worldwide on the same day. TDK comes out everywhere else after US release a week later

Most Batman fans would like Batman to have the biggest movie of 2008, I don't think there's any doubt about that.

I definitely think it's going to beat Iron Man. Spider-Man 3 I doubt...

It seems some are not that happy about the possibility, we're just talking about BO numbers, no reason to get moody about it. :woot:

I'm a fan, but I could honestly care less about how much it makes. :oldrazz:

^You better care how much it makes because if it doesn't do good, the possibility of the continuation of the franchise decreases.

I think it will. Sequels, if the original was well received, typically do better business. Add that onto TDK being a Batman movie, who I believe has a bigger fanbase than Iron Man, then add to that the highly anticipated/praised final full performance by Heath, and I think it will have a big opening.

My life won't end if the franchise doesn't continue and honestly come on just about everyone will see The Dark Knight so it will just fine at the box office. :oldrazz:

If TDK sucked and bombed at the box office...my life would end because this is the only franchise that I have extremely high hopes for:o:csad: So if they don't do at least 3-4...I will be sad:csad: Therefore, I hope and want it to do great...I want it to beat the living crap out of the ****fest that was SM3.

Yeah, but if you were much of a fan you would care, even if your life won't end. I won't lose my **** if TDK opens to $80 million either, but for the sake of Batman in general, I'd love to see the movie do as well as possible.

Yes.

I think it will. First you have all the comic fan that are surely going to see it and then you got Heath Ledger fans who will go for his "Best performance ever" and then the general public that is getting so hyped up from all the marketing done for it and the reviews so far.

I'm not sure if it'll beat Iron Man, I think Iron Man appealled to a larger number of people, parents would feel much more comfortable taking their kid to Iron Man, than The Dark Knight. I'm sure it'll do great though, just think doubling the first movies opening weekend is stretching it.

Yes, yes I will. Seriously though, I'd love to see it top everything if nothing else than to encourage WB and other studios to put money into quality movies like this. Walking the fine line between serious grit while still be commercially viable.

What does it matter?
The only time box office matters is if it's an unproven property, and you like it, so you're hoping for a sequel.
There's no way in Hell there will never be another Batman movie.
Do Batfans all get a check in the mail if it makes more than the other super heroes made?

Do you think the Green Hornet will make more than Ant Man?!

Do you guys think if they made a Wonder Woman and a Power Girl movie that Power Girl would make more than Wonder Woman because her breasts are bigger?!

What if Bat Man doesn't make as much as Iron Man?!
Does that mean we have to stop liking Bat Man and switch to Iron Man?! :(
I swear to you all right now!
If Bat Man doesn't out-do Iron Man, I will BOYCOTT all further Bat Man movies!
It will be a betrayal that I can NOT forgive!
