The Dark Knight Will TDK Show Off Batman's Detective Skills?

Has anyone read The Joker's Five Way Revenge? Seriously. Fox handled all of the equipment/chemistry worries in BB. And no, saving Rachel and getting set on fire didn't come off as detective work for me. The ONLY time he ever reminded me of the comic book Batman in this regard was at the end of BB when Gordon gives him the Joker card. Hell, Ra's Al Ghul constantly refers to Batman as "detective" in the comics. BTAS did a really good job at showing this side of the character which I havn't seen at all from Nolan yet. I guess people just don't have the attention spans for it, or Nolan believes they don't, so he doesn't include it.

The last thing Nolan has ever done is insult people's attention spans.

He didn't mean the actual actions......:whatever: . He meant what he was doing that led him to those moments. Before saving Rachel he was snooping around the narrows and Arkham looking for clues. If you remember, he was listening in on her and Crane's convo from outside. With the getting set on fire, he was using the infared scope to search which place had the stuffed animals with the drugs in them. He finds them and as he's starting to look into them, literally, Crane and his goons come in. That is detective work! Looking for any and all clues to move you along in your ultimate goal.

True. I guess I would like to see Bale in the batcave figuring out some horrible scheme the Joker has enacted upon an unsuspecting Gotham, without the aid of Morgan Freeman. I just want a breif moment like that.

As well as I do! :woot:

Don't worry. They'll probably kill Fox off at some point. Then he'll do all that work.

I honestly think all the costume type stuff we saw in The Prestige was a hint as to some stuff we'll get in TDK (like Bruce being Matches Malone or another of his identities). Perhaps even the Joker disguising himself, etc. I think this will tie in nicely with the detective aspect.

Nice observation! That would be pretty cool! I'm still hoping for there to be a scene or two where Joker kills some rich or important person at midnight like he did in one of his first appearances. One of the victims, Joker was hiding in his knight in armor display peeking out through the helmet as the cops and detectives were going ape **** trying to figure out how he still managed to die with them all around him.

Detectives and Scientists are different things. What Fox did was not detective work. Bruce did detective work in BB and will in TDK and yes I KNOW this.

I'd really love to see a shot that's a continuation of the one in BB when Bruce takes the cowl off and his shoulders kind of slump.

I'd love to see him, slumped over his desk in the batcave, fast asleep after being up all night gathering clues. He's gone back to his cave and immediately begun to examine them, but fallen asleep. He's still in his suit, but the cape and cowl are off to the side. Alfred brings him something refreshing to drink after waking him for work in the city.

I really hope they show SOME detective work in this film. Begins showed a Batman that was no smarter than your average action movie lead and TDK really needs to improve upon that.

That's how I felt. Bruce didn't even come up with the antidote to the fear toxin-it was Fox...Bruce was napping and then Morgan Freeman pops in and just shows up with the antidote, then sees himself out-LAME!

Can't see much wrong with that, he was gassed after all. Originally Batman found out about the microwave emitter on his own, changing that was a little annoying.

BB he was a great detective...what was he doing when he saved rachel, or got lit on fire?
Agreed. Maybe we're in the minority here, but in a movie where every minute counts, it would be nice to see the detective work that he performs progress the story as far along as possible. I.e. instead of watching him work stuff out in the Batcave, put him in a situation where his detective work leads to a new situation (such as the two discussed above).

It seems like people just want to see the detective side of Batman expressed in the film. Sure, if you watch it, BB has detective work, but not along the lines of what people would normally associate with the word "detective". In BB, we have Bruce disguising himself, doing surveillance, interrogating suspects, and figuring out the scheme, but it isn't really a great mystery because we know what Batman knows the entire time. The only problem is that BB is a mainstream, high-profile movie. One that had to cater to many people of all ages. The mystery couldn't be too hard to follow because then many people would get lost, so the film is set up the way it is. I didn't mind this about BB, but for those of us who want more mystery, we want to be more surprised by the outcome. Look at TLH or Dark Victory: the reader didn't know who the hell was killing everybody and the writing created suspense. BB wasn't like that. BB was a great movie that definitely had elements of detective work throughout, but it didn't feel like anybody was following clues, but conveniently spelled out trails to follow. You probably already put it all together by the time they reveal everything because they spell it out for you. People want more of a mystery with action in it than an action movie with some mystery in it, IMO anyway. You want a decent detective story, watch "Brick" and then watch BB and tell me they're the same. BB was not a detective story.

Many fans wanted batman to be more 'detective' in the next film. Sure, this is suppose to be a good thing...but a little debate was unleashed as well.

What KIND of detective should batman be? One side want a more...'normal' work detective, doing the same stuff police was doing.

The other side want a more 'CSI' kind of detective, uncovering fingerprint and stuff.

Personally, I want a 'death note' L kind of detective...

If you want to know what is the death note L about, here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mes4tk5C-so##

Watch it until you see the 'mental' fight between L and Light. I want to see a 'L' type of detective for TDK.

Just my few cents.
