Windows 7

I'm giving up trying to install this. My install stayed on 45% of "Gathering files, programs, and settings" for over 2.5 hours. The entire download shouldn't even take that long.

is there any way you can try installing it on another computer to see if its the one you're working on?

yea it took me a while for the gathering files status, but after that it went by fast

yea for me it lasted about an hour or 2, i just passed the time by watching a movie

Did it stay on that for 2+ hours though?

If you have a good enough amount of files and programs it could easily last that long. Mine took quite awhile as well. I think the entire process took about 3 from start to finish. If you do a clean install from XP, I'm sure it would go a lot faster.

Heya,

Yeah, it will take awhile if your doing an upgrade like that, but it's almost ALWAYS faster, and better even if it's more of a hassle is just to copy over your files to another drive, and do a clean install of an OS, IMO. Plus, it will install faster too, and less issues that might arise.

When I played with Beta, and RC, it was smooth. A few bugs here and there, but it was very solid, and stable. I'm just still not understanding all the "Bloatware" that Windows has on install, tho. Was it 10 gigs? Which is insane, even if HD room is cheap.

Oh, well. I'll get 7 soon as I get back on my feet, and I really do need a new computer, fast. I'm on a 5 year old desktop with even older Graphic's Card since my PCI Express burnt out a year or two ago. =)

Hasta,
Ali

before i got my new computer i had a almost 8 year computer with a windows 2000 processor and a win 98 graphics card, right before i got my new computer, my old computer was fn up pretty bad, i cant open Firefox or youtube without it freezing.

Kane,

Ouch. That bites. Yeah, this one has alot of HD room, I mean, tons it was the server for awhile until my notebook's board fried. =/ I mean, it's not a bad computer or what not, but I just don't wanna invest in something that might not work again (Card slot). So it's just easier to get a new one.

Plus, the graphic's card on this one is about 6 to 7 years old, so it can't do whole lot, anyways. =/ Plus, this was my first build (With my own money) so it was a budget PC as it was. Hehe. =P In the end, I know the feeling.

Just bought a laptop a couple of days ago and it has Win 7 on it. I love it so far. I need to get it for my PC, but the XP to 7 seems to be very time intensive. Has anyone on here done the switch from XP and did you run into issues?

Yeah, I know how to do it. Just wanted to see if anyone here has.

when i get my copy i will be upgrading an xp computer to 7.

that link will sure come in handy. i'm just going to wipe the old comp clean and test out 7 on it before i upload it to my main comp.

I'm not asking for one if that's what you're implying.

I was under the impression you can only install 7 on one computer with one product key and you'd need another product key if you wanted to install it on another computer.
