Wolverine and the X-men: Episode 24: "Foresight part 1"

I'm starting to think that Magneto's story arc is advancing too slowly and should have gotten to this point before now, since he's been in lots of episodes this season but is only now showing his true colours.

His true colors seem to be that he is unforgivably stupid. A U.S. government offical in ep 22 ordered terrorist attacks be conducted against Genoshan facilities across the country and items be stolen from that country. Most wars the U.S. has fought in over the years haven't had that kind of ironclad rational for war and we are a democracy with a free press not a dictatorship like Genosha.

I still have unresolved questions that I hope get answered in the last episode. For one after the Phoenix destroyed the mansion, how did Prof. X end up on Genosha and how did Jean end up in the hospital? It makes no sense. In the future where is Jean or the Phoenix since she destroyed almost everything? Also where is Colossus, I thought he would be helping the rest of the X-Men out by now since its the end of the season. Also I wonder why Apocalypse would want Sinister to get Scott's and Jean's DNA, since in the comics part of the reason Sinister did this was to create the ultimate mutant to destroy Apocalypse, which turned out to be Cable. Oh I wonder will we have Cable in the series or maybe even ..... X-MAN - Nathan Grey.

Colossus left the X-men and as of episode 2 had moved back to Russia to be with his family.

Thoughts on ep. 25:

Yeah, I knew they weren't going to have Emma go full-evil. I do think the whole Emma/Scott thing could have used a bit more time than the series gave it, but she's been basically the only one shown to have any real interest in his feelings over the season so there's enough.

Loved the squad of X-23s (if the lead one is Laura, what did he name the others?). Also, the bit with them and Vanisher must be a reference to the current X-Force comic, which they're both on (she cuts pieces of his body off whenever he does someone weasely).

Not having seen spoilers or anything, I'm going to guess that the season ends with the truth of his actions exposed, and him alone, deserted by his family and the people he was trying to save (in his own twisted way), wondering where it all went wrong

Just watched part 3, it was great. Spoilers ahead.
Especially the ending with Apocalypse.
Emma and the Cuckoos were the ones who initiated the physic attack which resulted in Jean becoming the Phoenix. Emma then took the Professors body to Genosha to 'find' him and become an X-man.

Magneto got 'banished' by Wanda from Genosha and poor poor Emma gets blown to shards (I hope she comes back like in the comics).

Great finale, i can't wait for season 2. I don't want it to get repetitive but won't it be the present X-men trying to stop the Apocalypse future now?

Or do you think they will be focusing on the future X-men trying to stop it? With Apocalypse was Sinister and i THINK it was Cyclops.

Good finale.

The only thing I hated was the whole story with Master Mold. It felt extremely pointless and they didn't even show the resolution. If they change everything in the past to set up a whole new reality what does it matter if they kill Master Mold in the future? And how the heck does Professor X know the changes? As far as he is concerned there was no changes because that was his existence the entire time.

Kids don't know the difference...

I hope we do see Emma back, Gambit to join the X-Men, See how and why Scott joins Apocalypse, and if Magneto will help the X-Men in their fight.

It's not really whether or not it was confusing. It just felt like a waste of time to focus on Master Mold when they could have focused more on the two other plot elements that actually had an impact on saving the future. Maybe give some of the other characters some screen time. The future X-Characters got more to say then the present team I'm pretty sure.

I agree with Death's Head if I was like 11-13 and didn't know anything about the X-men other than this cartoon I would probably have no idea whats going on, but at that age even if you have no idea whats going on you still think its awesome as long as their are explosions. IMO it was an ok season overall. there were some episodes I really liked, some I hated, and a few that were meh. I didn't really think the 3 part finally didn't really seem that big to me. my biggest complaint about the show is for kids. Not only is Wolverine in it he's the leader and we're never gonna see him stab someone. I wish the whole show could have been like Hulk Vs Wolverine. but its ok for what it is I hope the next season is stronger.

did anyone else think Apocalypse's head looked a little weird? idk why it just looked kinda off.

See how and why Scott joins Apocalypse
I thought that was the Summers-Grey kid that Sinister implied he was planning to produce.

Pretty good finale, and "pretty good" is how I'd label the season; some stuff could have been done better, and the whole future storyline ultimately seems to not have amounted to much (how exactly did the present-day X-Men stop Master Mold?); Future-Polaris showing up to help was neat, though it kind of highlights how much of the drama since "Badlands" was kind of artificial by them not bringing her with them the first time.

The visual for Emma's sacrifice was cool, and it leaves the door open for her to come back, as comics-readers know.

As a take on the Phoenix Saga, this was certainly inventive, though I don't think it surpasses the 90s show's fairly literal adaptation (Jean's been a peripheral figure in this series up until the very end, and her relationship with Scott mainly alluded to; in the 90s show the audience knew the characters and their relationships a lot better).

Wanda as the new Queen of Genosha's a nice setup for future stories.

The thing that I really did like about the season is how many references to things in the comics there were. such as the X-force references in the future, how much future Master mold resembled Danger, and other fun little things likr that.

I think next season will be a lot stronger. The Phoenix part of the story IMO was the weakest part. Why bother building the Phoenix Force up to just have it come and go in 1 episode?

OK so to clarify, the future has been altered to an Apocalypse future?

But the characters still exist as they are in the present?

Yes.

As far as I understand.

But hey, if the X-Men of the present stopped a world where the machines took over and neither humans nor mutants won, and thus create a future where Apocalypse and Sinister survive and create a world where the humans don't win but the mutants do, that's not so bad is it? Haha.

Here's hoping for more Blink next season - it only makes sense.

Colossus too since it would keep Dread on the show.

Haha yes, well they should bring Colossus into the present team.

And I really feel let down with X-23's involvement in the first season. She is escorted to safety in one Wolvie solo episode, and that's all we see of her until 4 of her pop up in the future timeline randomly in the 2nd to last episode. It would've worked better if there was an episode where she came to infiltrate the mansion or something, in the present, so we got to know her better - heck, get rid of the whole Ninja storyline and make it an X-23 story, and that would've made me happy!

Also - what happens to Mystique? We know she's proven to be loyal to Magneto, but do you think she would still stand beside him after he was all but exiled from Genosha by his own daughter (go Wanda!)?

Well chances are Mystique agreed with Magneto's viewpoints. So Mystique and Magneto will probably be making plans with Pietro still looking for daddy's approval.

I have to say, I think Magneto's arc this season was fantastic.

That image of what he did to the sentinels was something I longed to see live action, but animation did right by it at least.

Odd, I felt it was great up until the end. Having Magneto attack the U.S. didn't bother me... hell an agent paid by the U.S. had in ep 22 conducted terrorist attacks on Genosha. But, its clear the writers wanted to weaken Genosha so that Apoc can take over next season so they decided to have Magneto attack his own people. Magneto in that moment he attacked his own people became no better then Apocalypse.

What Magneto said to Apocalypse in TAS best defines what should be the difference between the two characters in my view. Magneto tells Apocalypse that he doesn't believe in punishing the innocent along with the guilty. Now if one believes Magneto has no moral boundaries like Apocalypse then he might attack innocent mutants under his protection. But, I very much prefer there be a clear distinction between Apocalypse and Magneto.

I disagree. Magneto has not been above this before. The 90's show I feel has clouded your judgement since they made Magneto more sympathetic and HEROIC.

The attack on Genosha was a play by Magneto to unify mutants to fight on his side. Magneto believes in mutant superiority that strongly that he believes what he is doing is the right, moral thing to do.

In many ways, I feel he was blatantly provoking and wanting Kelly to attack them just because it would allow Magneto to put his vendetta and ultimatum to other mutants through. Magneto wants mutants to inherit the world not just Genosha, that's what he believes. He believes mutants inheriting the world is bigger than Genosha.

It's not like he's never been heroic in the comics. He's pretty much the signature anti-villain in comics.

Myself, I thought this was on the outside of Magneto's scale of workable portrayals, but still within bounds.

If I have a reservation about next season, it's that they seem to be setting up essentially a repeat of this one's story structure: Xavier communicating to them from a bad future/reality, they've gotta stop it.

I have no problem with a Magneto who wants to take over the world. However, sending Sentinels against his own country and then against the U.S. is certainly not the way to do it. The way to do it is to build a mutant army on Genosha and try to invade to take over like he tried to do in Eve of Destruction or Civil War House of M or planned to do at the end of TAS. Sentinels are weapons of murder and destruction not conquest. What he did was simply weaken Genosha as much as he may have weakened the U.S. if his attack continued.

Magneto was willing to start a nuclear war in the TAS, kill Kelly and even ally with Apocalypse to bring back his wife. He was no weakling nice guy... he was simply a man willing to defend his people some times using extreme methods. Why I liked TAS Magneto, 616 Magneto, and HoM Mags it they set moral boundries for Magneto between that of Apocalypse and Xavier. In those versions of the character he is willing to start wars and even try to take over the world, but it doesn't mean he is capable of murdering anyone or doing anything to take over the world like Apocalypse.

Absolutely a FANTASTIC ending. Cyclops really redeemed himself and Emma in my book was the STAR of this whole season. I thought the Phoenix ending was brilliant and I;m so glad there will be no-more phoenix BS now its done and dusted. Emma's sacrifice actually brought a tear to my eye.She HAS TO COME BACK! Otherwise I won't watch lol I'm desperate to see more scenes with her and Jean. That would be so interesting. I loved the future episodes just as much as the present. It was nice to see Lorna joining the fight at the end to stop Master Mold. The highlight though was when Wanda kicked Magneto out of Genosha. He had it coming. I'm really excited about the age of Apocalypse now. I hope all the cast come back. With Gambit and Colossus added to the cast list. All the episodes where Wolverine had less screen time, were the ones I enjoyed the most.

I completely trust, that they will do a good job for season 2. I do however have some criticism but my biggest disappointment was how Storm was handled in this whole season. She was literally invisible. Lets hope they give her more screen time in season 2 and also toughen her up. In many ways this show triumphs over the 90's version and Evolution. But it could take some notes from both the prior shows. The 90's version had more momentum and better story fluidity. While sometimes in WAX I felt there was too much going on at once and it got a bit cloudy. Of all 3 shows, Evolution had the best character depth, character chemistry & interaction, fight sequences and character fairness. Which is something that I felt WAX was lacking in big time. As great as the stories were in WAX, every episode didn't need to be EPIC! Sometimes its good to take a moment and just BREATHE and see where your at. If season 2 can learn to do that from time to time, then theres no reason why this won't completely surpass its predecessors by a white-wash cus the writing is fantastic. All in all, things are looking good. Bring on SEASON 2!

Wow - The Age of Apocalypse is coming... Great ending. It was great to see Sinister and Cyclops in there Age of Apocalypse versions. I can't wait till the second season. I really hope the writers keep the storyline close to the comics. In the comics the main reason the Age of Apocalype came about was because of Prof. X not being around in the present time, so this kind of works for the cartoon. Difference is in the comics the present timeline altered with Prof.X not being around to create the X-Men, and in the cartoon now the future timeline hasaltered with him not being around to lead the X-MEN.

As far as Cyclops im curious to see the writers reason for him being with Sinister. In the AOA comics Sinsiter raised Cyclops and looked at him like a father figure, and also got into a scuffle with Wolverine and lost one of his eyes, fighting over Jean Grey. This could work in the series by having those two get into again over Jean and the fact that he still doesn't like Wolverine leading the X-MEN and leaves, and somehow Sinister convinces him join him and other mutants. Or Sinister just uses mind control on him of course. Also if the writers use the original AOA story line, remember that in the present time Sinister got ahold of Cyclops and Jean DNA to create the ultimate mutant which turned out to be a more powerful and younger version of Cable - Nate Grey (X-MAN) to betray and destroy Apocalypse. So we may see the apperance of either one. I can't wait till season 2 hopefully the writers don't jack up the storyline to much from the original. Also in this alternate future Magneto maybe leading the X-MEN, since that is what happend in the AOA.

It will be almost completely impossible to stick to the comics completely for AOA you'll need a cast list of OVER 40 X-Men to tell the stories of Factor X, X-Calibre, Generation Next, Astonishing X-Men, Amazing X-Men, Gambit & The X-Ternals, Weapon X & X-Man. And Not to mention all the love interests like Rogue & Magneto, Storm & Quicksilver, Gambit & Lila Cheney, Blink & Sabretooth, Psylocke & Angel, The marriage of Wolverine & Jean Grey & Shadowcat & Colossus. There's far too much ground to cover to stick completely to the comics. Its best they just take segments from it and tell the stories that they think would translate well to TV and manipulate and change things round as they see fit. If they try to cram everything in, then it'll just end up being too confusing.

The fact that their doing the story in the first place is a good thing. But they'll probably have to make a lot of alterations. e.g Professor doesn't have to be dead, wolverine will take over Magneto's role, keeping his current leadership e.t.c. But that's cool with me. I'll be interested to see their interpretation of it anyway.
