Cops have never arrested me for Jay walking. And I tend to drive ten miles over the speed limit, by police officers, yet they only pull me over after I exceed ten miles.

i heard they wont pull you over if your speed falls within the margin of error of their radar guns, which is usually +/- 5MPH (if you're going 45 in a 40mph zone you're good)

You can say anything you want to anyone you want, however in this case when you make something public that you know will offend it can be subject to law. And in this case, I feel it should be.

Bull****. You just completely contradicted yourself.

Well on the highway for example everyone goes 85 (on a 75 mph). And I don't think it has anything to do with radar guns. It's more a tolerance for the fact that most everyone speeds at least 5 to 10 over the speed limit posted.

No, not at all. You can say what you want, and if you say it in public I can subpoena you for it. We have laws against hate crimes and hate speech. Why do you think you see cases on television where people are suing for "emotional damages". Don't you think somewhere in some state or federal law that persons lawyer would have thought they had some basis for trial. Really think about that.

You must live in some creepy, corrupt hicksville.
Here in downtown Seattle at my work, getting a ticket for jay-walking is pretty much a rite of passage for all the residents. I was lucky enough to just a get a warning once.

Anyway, people are allowed to protest. I've been at 15, 20? Anti-Abortion rallies, on the street, where they were calling women "baby-killers" as they entered the building.
Cops were there, not to stop the yelling of the words, but to preserve their right to yell the words, as long as they didn't engage in any violence.

We have protests right outside my work in the park all, ALL the time. Sometimes it's "hate-speech", and cops are deployed to ensure that things don't get physically violent, and they come early, because the hate groups tell them the day of the rally. They WANT the police there.

It sounds, heh, like you live on Earth 1 and I live on Earth 2 and that's the mix-up.

Good thing its not Earth Prime.

Though I think SB and you are arguing two different things here. Wilhelm, youre arguing about the law enforcement angle of the hate speech, while SB is going off on a tangent about civil cases and subpoenas and what not.

that's not what happened 2 years ago here in NYC. the cops(there)=:down

During the RNC protest, my friend got taken down to the ground, roughed up, cuffed, and carted off to one of those "holding pens". OVERNIGHT. and he wasn't EVEN PART OF THE PROTEST. he was crossing the street, from his apartment, to get a friggin' falafel.

Duh. New York cops are all sadistic thugs on the take.
They were probably flying high on cocaine.

*?*?*?no, everyone has some evil in them and some good, battling it out like an epic game of rock-em-sock-em-robots throughout their lives.

Actually we do fairly well thank you.

So you do realize that a warning means you were not charged with a crime you actually admit to committing now. So is it safe to say that the cop did not enforce that law? I think so.
Anyway, people are allowed to protest. I've been at 15, 20? Anti-Abortion rallies, on the street, where they were calling women "baby-killers" as they entered the building.
And sometimes the ACLU will show up and press charges against the protests. That's why they have lawyers

It's sounds like the latter and not the former is why they were there. Rarely do we deploy people to protect basic rights. I think the cops would laugh at me if I told them I wanted an escort to class tomorrow to "protect my right of free speech".

Also if you are interested in making sure your rights are protected usually you bring your lawyer.

Yeah, I would too if I thought things were going to get violent.

Well then familiarize yourself with Earth 2 laws. For example, in California you can terminate employees for hate speech even though the original state constitution upholds hate speech in public as protected.

Remember the constitution is not the only legal document anymore.

My goodside robot is so good that he's a pacifist, constantly being trounced by his foe.

Now Maxwell, remember we are in the real world now where cops always enforce the law and no one is ever allowed to break it:whatever: .

Heh. My best friend is NYPD. He's like one of the best guys I know. But the perps he roughs up deserves it. Stupid kids who try to trip him up or when he's apprehending somebody, their friends come over to try and help them.

Best was going to see a concert and him making a scalper give me his ticket for face value.

Dude, you are not getting what I'm saying at all, and it almost seems that you're intentionally trying to twist it into something else, but sorry, it won't budge, 'cause I never said cops enforce the law 100% of the time.

I'm saying, you said that it's against the law to say anything offensive or disruptive in public.
Hogwash. It's a total American right.
I see it in action, and sanctioned by the city all the time.

They are not posted there to look the other way, as ornaments.
They are posted there to intervene IF someone breaks the law, during the offensive/disruptive SPEECH.
