Worst Batman tpb?

I love the man who laughs. A simple retelling of Jokers 5 way revenge.

I've seen worse, but I'll go with my opinion of the most overrated, The Dark Knight Returns. Sub-par, amature level art for the most part, and a boring story.

I agree mostly with Dr. Myles. I'm not sure why Miller is so popular beyond the revolution that TDK caused. And TDK really wasn't even that great as a comic. The implications of its existance were great, sure.

Miller is the Quintent Tarintino of comics. He has done a couple really good things but the rest are just joke versions of himself. I do like Batman and Robin All-star just good fun there.

I don't get the impression that he takes the character remotely seriously. It's like he's being condescending to those who prefer serious takes. Not altogether respectable, IMO.

Frank Miller takes Batman more seriously than most writers would dare to, that's why modern Batman owes so much of it's greatness to Frank. If someone doesn't like aspects of Dark Knight Returns, fine, there's incredible room there to prefer alternative versions of those aspects, But to say it's "not that great" as comic or that it has "sub-par, amature level art" is absurd. you're either being dishonest or flippant or you have NO idea what you're on about. you must actually have an inverse well of ignorance when it comes to comics, batman comics or even fiction in general to say that.

Nepenthes I definately agree with you about Miller on the whole, but I have to say that just because Miller's doing something doesn't immediately mean that it gets my blessing.

If someone doesn't appreciate TDKR as being an amazingly well done book then they are being flippant or ignorant.

That being said I really don't care for TDKR or DKSA or All-Star. I loved Year One and I love most of his other works like Sin City and Ronin. I think he's an excellent artist and I appreciate what he's done but that doesn't mean I have to be a fan of the work.

Also, as a side note, I hate Shakespeare.

DKR deserves every ounce of praise it gets IMO. I like all Franks other work too, but DKR takes the top

DKR is easily on of the best batman trades, imo but I think Mazzuchelli should have done the art in Returns just like Year One.

there ARE worse out there..but im adding "lovers and madmen" to the list. started out rather interesting...but the art is hell and the ending is sooooo old hat. ick.

Such is the mentality of the moron infestation here on SHH.

I'm ignorant because I don't like everything that you like? Because I judge TDKR as a comic and find it not worthy to put on a pedestal?

What are you, five years old?

I like TDKR. I don't love it.

The whole war games thing sucked big time.
and so did public enemies, i hate jeph loebs batman.
Hush is useless too (im not kidding)

I seem to be the only person that likes it:csad:

nah I like Lovers and madmen, the more and more I read it the more I enjoy it. however I do agree the end is weak.

I thought Lovers and Madmen was great! Really gave a lot of insight into Joker

has to be jokers last laugh, i remember seeing the ads for it once it first came out years ago, but never picked it up, so once tpb was released i scooped it without a second thought.

i just remember thinking after i read it what the hell was that, how can you mess up such a great concept. joker thinks he's going to die so he goes over the edge. yes the idea of him turning all the dc villians into jokers isn't great but it could have worked if they had the balls to play with the concept.

i'm surprised people are bashing the superman/batman books. i personally enjoyed them, sure they're not as dark as some think bats should be, but it more the dynamic between the two characters that work.

Ha! Public Enemies!
"OMG, who can we have write a horribly contrived and cliche Batman/Superman story that the fanboys will eat up?"

"Easy! Jeph Loeb!"

"Now we need someone on art. Someone who relives the 90's in glorious fashion. Rob Liefeld's busy, so..."

"Ed McGuiness!!!"

"GENIUS!!! We are gonna make some $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$"

I've never read Knightfall and I've heard mixed opinions towards it, anyone really love it?
