Worst Cases of Miscasting

Richard Gere as Lancelot (*vomit*)

Elijah Wood as a hotheaded Irish mob brother in Ash Wednesday and as a street-brawling hooligan in Green Street Hooligans....seriously, did Elijah as a street brawling hoodlum sound believable to anyone involved? And I like Elijah.

Halle Berry as Storm

Nick Stahl as John Connor (another actor I like in and of himself, just not for the leader of the human resistance)

Ray Liotta in The Name of a King: A Dungeon Siege Tale. Yes, the film was awful, but who the hell thought Ray Liotta could play some wizard bad guy. Seriously, wtf?

Thought I'd bump this thread since it's been a while. A few recent examples...

Sam Worthington as Perseus

Channing Tatum as Duke, Christopher Eccleston as Destro... hell, everyone in G.I. Joe

(to some extent) Russell Crowe as Robin Hood

Nicolas Cage as a medieval knight in that Season of the Witch movie

Megan Fox and John Malkovitch in Jonah Hex

Pierce Brosnan in Mamma Mia (Rule 1 of Casting a Muscial: Find actors who can sing)

What? John Malkovich was in Jonah Hex? Shame on him, he's better than that.

Yeah, Malky will do anything for a paycheck, but I gather that he'll only really give a half-decent performance anymore if he gives a crap about the movie.

(to some extent) Russell Crowe as Robin Hood

I actually thought the cast of GI Joe was good (especially JGL) except for Tatum. He was atrocious.

I agree with Crowe. Add Blanchett as Maid Marion. I have no idea why Scott wanted to start a new franchise with such an old cast.

is there a difference here between bad performance and mis cast

because there were people who were mis cast who did well

Cameron Diaz and Leonardo DiCaprio in Gangs of New York.

Diaz maybe, but I disagree with DiCaprio. He was able to hold his own against Daniel Day-Lewis.

I'll add Keanu Reeves as John Constantine.

DDL completely over-shadowed Leo, imo. I really can't put my finger on why, though. DDL was just way more manly and intense maybe? I completely bought Leo as a badass in Blood Diamond, I just couldn't in GONY.

Joseph Gordon Levitt did a halfway decent job as Cobra Commander. Scarlett wasn't that bad either. Ray Park was the only choice for Snake Eyes. The problem with "G.I. Joe" was pretty much the script and Channing Tatum. It would have been a much better film if they had cast someone like Chris Pine or Chris Evans as Duke, got rid of Ripcord and replaced him with Roadblock, maybe cast someone who actually appears threatening as Destro, have non-cartoony special effects....oh what could have been.

Those faces are pretty funny though.

Travolta as a villain. More so in Punisher than Swordfish. Tom Jane's Punisher needed better villains.

Also the red head chick that replaced Jodie Foster's Clarice Starling for Hannibal. She is a great actress just not for that role, IMO.

The black girl in Jurassic Park: The Lost World, that was Ian Malcolm's daughter and she even brought up how "he liked having kids but not taking care of them." A biological black daughter from a tall jewish guy? If she was adopted they should have mentioned it because it's confusing. Somebody was banging the mailman that's all I'm saying
...a pointless annoying character to boot.

LOL. I'm sure that it was meant to be the mom was black. While I agree she was a pointless and unnecessary character, they would have been better off casting someone with a caramel complexion. She was way too dark to be a mulato.

TLJ could have been a great Two-Face. It was the script and the directing that was off, not him.

Agreed, Tommy Lee Jones had the potential to be a terrific Two Face. I'd say he's the best actor in BF. What failed was the scripting and direction of the character.

I agree. It was the writing and direction that hurt the movie, not the casting. Correction, there was one character who was miscast. Ripcord. No Wayans brother should be cast in anything that's not a lowbrow spoof movie.

Exactly. I think some are confusing miscasting with plain bad performances. TLJ gave a bad performance (not all his fault though) but he certainly wasn't miscast.

I would even go as far to say that many of the actors cast in Batman and Robin weren't miscast. After seeing Arnold play a Terminator, and be that completely cold-blooded killer, I could have even bought him in as a very dark Mr. Freeze that took it's characterization off BTAS.

Matthew Goode was Mis Cast In Watchmen but i really enjoyed him in it one of the rare cases of liking a mis cast for me at least

I agree about Matthew Goode. I apprechiated that he tried to do something special with the character (like the in-and-out intentional accent) but it just didn't work.

Halle Berry as Catwoman
Colin Farrell as Alexander
Ben Affleck as Daredevil
Sam Worthington as Perseus

Goode knew he has haters and he don’t care :woot:

Did you feel a bit of a fraud being cast as the cleverest man in the world in Watchmen? There were many reasons I shouldn’t have been cast in that film and I think people were quite p***ed off. I’m lucky I don’t own a computer.

Really? No, I don’t have one. But trust me, the negative feedback was relayed quite well by friends of mine: ‘Oh my God, everyone hates you, man. It’s awesome.’ When I got there to start filming, all the artwork still had Jude Law’s face on it so I figured he was meant to be doing this but was too expensive. That was good for me.

Are superheroes your way forward now? I’m not built like that; I’m not really that leading man thing. I’m sure I’m more likely to end up playing a teacher on some sort of Rhodesian farm in the 1930s drinking gin Martinis. I hope so, actually, that will be quite fun.

Also Malin Ackerman in Watchmen. Good grief is she a bad actress.

i thought she was fine she brought the immaturity of Laurie that a more refined actress would never of brought which i really liked

she was just surrounded by so much talent that she looks terrible in comparison

and there is a huge difference between mis cast and mediocre performances
