Comics Would you cancel all Spider-Man books if they killed off MJ?

yes, but only if they were the baby killing fascist type. I think this is a reasonable comparisson for the spider-man situation so yes I would, I don't want a retcon, they've forgotten the new powers pretty much which I can accept but for the love of god leave mj alone.

He probabably has no intention of killing mj but keeps dropping hints in order to keep the chatter going about the books online therefore providing mass free advertising for spidey. Oh god we're all just helping the machine along....

The MJ thing is the only thing I agree with with Joe Quesada MJ's got to Go! after 10 years theirs nothing left to tell, And I hate to Break it to you Spidey doesn’t age with you MJ has become repetitive and boring!

Dude, Dan Slott isn't going anywhere anytime soon. In fact, I'll predict that next year at this time he'll be one of comics hottest writers.

No, heh. But in the Wizard interview that Slott had with Bendis he mentioned that his dream is to one day work on Amazing Spider-Man. And he said that the first thing he'd do was kill someone to show that he wasn't playing around, and that it'd probably be Deb Whitman.

Seriously? I don't think I'd ever have the ***** to bump off a classic Lee/Romita character. (Technically a Lee/Ditko character if you count the time that Ditko drew MJ with her face blocked by a vase filled with flowers...)

I mean, let's face it, M(onkey) J(oe) is one thing... But M(ary) J(ane) is a whole different MJ altogether!

someone else said you wanted to do asm and that you'd already stated that you'd start by killing a character to show you were serious. I was merely stating that I for one think MJ's great but I'd be willing to make the sacrifice to get you writing it rather than JMS

I really like JMS.

I just don't like his "nothing will ever be the same" stories. And if you think about it, Joe Q is much more at fault for that than JMS is. Joe Q wouldn't let Peter be the father in Sins Past. It was undoubtidly Joe Q's idea for "The Other" to be 12 issues long and be written by 3 guys. Man, I hate the Other so much.

When JMS isn't writing "nothing will ever be the same" books, things are great! His Peter/MJ interactions are the best anyones ever written. He has some very touching single issue stories.

The answer to your question would be choice number 1.

However, I think a lot of people in the pro-MJ camp believe that you can have a well written Spider-Man comic WITH MJ.

Joe Quesada seems to believe that the pro-MJ opinion is not a valid one. With the way Spidey has been handled under Joe's and Alonso's watch, I've seen nothing to make me believe Spider-Man stories would significantly improve if he were suddenly single. And in today's comic market, if Peter were single I doubt you see a significant/sustainable sales increase.

To be fair JMS gave us 3 years of great stories (Coming Home, 9/11, Aunt May finding out, MJ coming back, The Digger and the Book of Ezekiel) he just then kept going once he finished the story he set out to tell (Ezekiel) and now we are getting usless **** like Sins Past, The Other and to be fair it was most likely Joey Q's idea for the unmasking and her soon to be death (it was JMS who lobbied to bring her back and did in ASM now).

Oh well.

Agreed. I'm not a massive MJ fan, but would prefer she stayed as she is, and there is no reason why we can't have well written stories with MJ in them. As dragon has said many times, we need a writer who understands human relationships

Even if they do kill MJ, it's not like she'll be gone forever. They will bring her back eventually just like with Aunt May.
