WOW, what a weekend!!

^ more likely that would be the top 5 after this weekend.

1. National Treasure 2
2. Sweeney Todd
3. I Am Legend
4. Walk Hard
5. Alvin & The Chipmunks

That seems about right. Although...Alvin opened with 40 million last weekend and it's a family movie, so it COULD make more than Walk Hard.

ComingSoon's top 5 predictions:

1. National Treasure: Book of Secrets (Disney) - $45.8 million N/A (-2.8 million)

2. I Am Legend (Warner Bros.) - $33.8 million -56% (same)

3. Alvin and the Chipmunks (Fox) - $24.8 million -44% (down -.4 million)

4. Sweeney Todd (DreamWorks) - $14.6 million N/A (+1.3 million)

5. Charlie Wilson's War (Universal) - $10.8 million N/A (-.5 million)

The one thing I'm worried about is the number of theatres Sweeney Todd is in. I figured it would be a wide release on par with the others, but I've been hearing reports of certain theatres refusing to carry it so I may have it ranked too high. And yes, Alvin could certainly make more than Walk Hard. I'd be very surprised if there are more than three new movies in the top 5.

I I Am Legend doesn't repeat, then it will be National Treasure followed by Dewey Cox

I would say:
National Treasure 2
Charlie Wilson's War
Walk Hard
Sweeney todd/P.S
*I have no idea what sweeney todd or P.S is about so....
NT2 will probably do better than CWW,just for the type of movie it is. NT2 is that dumb sappy somewhat entertaining adventurious type movie, and those seem to do decently.

Sweeny Todd is what happened when Tim Burton walked into his local Hot Topic and saw a group of scene kids singing show tunes, and though "Hey, there's an idea. Of course, I must put Johnny Depp in it, otherwise I wouldnt have a career. And I'll put Helena in just to get her off my back."
He should really cut the crap and just leave Helena for Johnny now.

I completely forgot just how many movies were coming out this week! I think it's just a bit too crowded, and this is only Legend's second week so I predict it will also do pretty well again this weekend.

I'll be seeing Sweeney this weekend and I think I may go see National Treasurer as well(which I all but forgot came out today). I'd love for Sweeney to place #1 in the Box office but with such fierce competition, I unfortunately don't think it will.

Yeah, that's really what it's about. :whatever: If you haven't seen the movie, you have no right to criticize it. It was an amazing movie, as was "Walk Hard". I suggest you all see "Sweeney Todd" and "Walk Hard" this weekend.

Yeah, I agree. Walk Hard was good, but I thought Sweeney Todd was amazing.

We got 6 movies at our theater yesterday (Sweeney Todd, Walk Hard, Juno, P.S. I Love You, Charlie Wilson, and National Treasure).

I've seen 4 of them so far and I plan on seeing another on Saturday and another one Sunday (yeah, I'll probably watch P.S. I Love You)

Seriously....Walk Hard...was good? It didn't look that funny to me.

Friday Box Office numbers:

1. NATIONAL TREASURE--- $17,070,000
2. I AM LEGEND--- $11,040,000
3. ALVIN & THE CHIPMUNKS--- $8,540,000
4. SWEENEY TODD--- $3,850,000
5. CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR--- $2,805,000
6. P.S. I LOVE YOU-- $2,360,000
7. WALK HARD--- $1,490,000

NT took number one to no surprise, Legend and Chipmunks are holding up very well. However, quite disappointing numbers for Sweeney Todd, Charlie Wilson's War, PS, and Walk Hard. This week is quite crowded.

there was just too many movies in one weekend and alot of people are busy xmas shopping . i was expecting sweeney todd to do alot better.

My P.S theater was packed! It was damn good too. Gerard is the man! Great date movie.

Having seen Sweeney Todd and National Treasure 2 (sadly, I was dragged to it :cmad:), it is a shame that NT2 is probably gonna win...cause Sweeney Todd was amazing, and NT2 just sucked.

I knew National Treasure would win but I cannot believe Walk Hard is that low and Alvin and Legend maintained the top 3

Walk Hard flopping (or making what it is) doesn't surprise me...with so much out, I thought it would get lost in the shuffle.

I hope Sweeney Todd's numbers go up though...that movie deserves to make a lot more money.

With the success of 40 year old virgin, Knocked Up, and Superbad one of these Apatow movies was bound to flop. I guess Walk Hard flopping is better than Pineapple Express (the buddy action-comedy starring Seth Rogen and James Franco) flopping.

Those are far from disappointing numbers for Sweeney, considering it was released in half the amount of theaters as all the other films.

I find Walk Hard bombing so badly to be very surprising. I thought it would easily make $15-20 million. I also can't believe Alvin and the Chipmunks is doing so well. Who is seeing it? I'm guessing kids, because I have seen very little marketing for it, and have heard nothing but bad things.
