EXT. LEXCORP - NIGHT
Lois and Lex both step from the elevator. Lex walks on ahead and turns to her, as the lights come on, illuminating the darkness.
LEX
Welcome to my world.
Lois looks at around at all the sights. Heavy machinery assembles what appear to be robotic limbs. She can't believe her eyes. Bubbling tanks of various sizes, rows and rows, are lined against the walls. They each contain human appendages, some with even human shapes inside, deformed and with limbs missing or not quite developed to the correct size. Other numerous experiments are present around the lab.
LOIS
What is all this?
LEX
Like I said, it's my world. I've been dreaming of it since I was a kid.
Lex stops and turns to her. A smug look on his face.
LEX ( CONT'D )
I know what you're thinking. I'm sick? All this is crazy? I should be locked away and have the key thrown away?
LOIS
...It's like you can read my mind.
LEX
It's simply because you lack the vision. Obviously, like a lot of the population out there. So, I guees I can't really criticise you for your lack of understanding and acceptance. Ignorance can be such a tragic trait to possess. It ends up wasting the potential within us that could be quite beneficial for mankind.
Lois rolls her eyes. She's becoming agitated with this man and with her surroundings.
LOIS
Could you try talking like a being with lesser intelligence for once, Luthor?! What the hell is going on in this place?!
Lex sighs and gives Lois a gentle smile. It gives her a slight chill. Added that with everything else, it's amazing how she's keeping her nerve!
LEX
I really hate being right all the time, you know that? Fine. I'll make it easy for you to comprehend. Simply put, Miss Lane...I'm carrying out my dream. Even as a child, I was creative. Never lacked any sort of imagination. And this dream I have, started when I was that young. To be correct, it followed after I did certain things. Things that both astonished people around me...and terrified them at the same time.
Lois' reporter intrigue is kicking in. She knows better than to indulge Luthor with his bloated psychotic ego. But, he's too fascinating for her not press him further for his tale.
LOIS
What things?
LEX
It was simple, at the start. It began with me trapping a dragonfly inside a glass jar, when I was six. My parents couldn't afford to keep a pet and I desperately wanted one. I was an only child and it got lonely, at times. But, I felt guilty at seeing it trying to escape. So, I decided to let it out...However, to make sure it didn't get away from me, I pulled each one of its tiny wings off. I would observe it every day with complete fascination.
Lex s******s at himself upon saying that. Lois' slight pity for the guy has turned back into disgust.
LEX (CONT'D )
It gave me a sense of feeling. Something unique, that I'd never experienced before. I didn't quite fully understand it, but I soon became addicted to that feeling. It was as if the wingless dragonfly was my own creation. I had done something that no one else had. I was pleased with myself. Of course I was young at the time, and didn't fully realise the concept of cruelty in others out there...And once I did, I wanted to go further. I needed to stand out from the rest of them. Even if they were simple-minded schoolchildren, I craved the attention.
LOIS
So all this? It came from you wanting to impress a bunch of kids? Didn't have many friends, did you? I'm not surprised.
Lex walks up to Lois and proceeds to stroke her hair. He gently observes his hand in motion through her hair. She's repulsed, but is frozen. She dare move. His eyes on hers.
LEX
I wanted respect, Lois. Respect and love. I never got any from my parents. So, I sought it from anybody who would pay attention to me.
He stops stroking her hair and continues to walk on ahead. Lois reluctantly follows. Her stomach and legs are feeling shakey now. Not with fear, not as much. It's anger.
LEX ( CONT'D )
As I was saying. It soon escalated beyond pulling the wings of flies, I'll tell you.
LOIS
Oh, I can clearly see that...and another thing, Luthor.
LEX
What's that?
LOIS
Don't ever touch me again
Lex stops. He turns to face her. Despite him being this seemingly weedy nerd, Lois is pretty scared of the guy.
LEX
Or what? You'll tell the Alien I touched his little mate?
Lex points at the large tubes behind Lois, the ones filled with chunks of human like limbs. She turns to look. She's disturbed at the sight.
LEX ( CONT'D)
You see them? Tell me what you think they are. Or, rather, what they were.
Rather than indulging him, again. Lois has given up on her curiosity now, she doesn't know what to think. Things are starting to really get to her, but she maintains her cool.
LOIS
Your ex-girlfriends? I don't know.
LEX
Men and women you can find in cardboard boxes in the slums. Those who won't be missed. Even those who will be missed and remembered! Men and women you often see fighting for their countries. I have a collection of what's left of them, you see? When you're experimenting, you need more than one guinea pig, don't you? But it was all in the interest of science, I assure you. They didn't die for nothing.
Lois slowly turns to Lex. She's pissed now! If she wasn't handcuffed, she'd be tearing chunks out of him!
LOIS
You evil, monster...
LEX
I prefer the term, God! You see, that's my dream!
Lex is starting to change. His behaviour a lot more erratic and manic.
LEX (CONT'D)
Tearing wings off flies, cutting up animals, and replacing their limbs and organs with whatever I could find to stitch them up with, vandalism of public property to suit my tastes, it was the beginning! Whatever created this Universe, be it the Lord our Father, or the Big Bang. Whatever you choose to believe, something created us...This world, these creatures that inhabit it, they're somebody else's creations...they're not mine. In my dream? I'm the one who created everything...
Lex, slowly and menacingly comes up to Lois. She wants to back away and run, but she stands her ground.
LEX (CONT'D)
This world, Miss Lane. Everything and everyone in it, will belong to me. I can make my dream come true...and the wheels are already in motion.
LOIS
Not if Superman has anything to say about it.
LEX
He'll be dead. And do you know how I know that?
He turns to point at a large blast door in the back of the room.
LEX (CONT'D)
Because what's going to kill him? It's in there. Would you like to see?
