If they wanted to go for a more cartoony look, they should have gone with cel-shading, like Shattered Dimensions. The Amazing/Ultimate Spider-Man levels look beautiful.
Ive been wanting a cell shaded X-men this entire console cycle. I didnt like when they went to the more realistic models in MuA. Cel shade got such a bad wrap with the PS2 but the technology has increased immensely. I always use the beautiful Prince of Persia (2008) as a frame of reference for what can be done right with that

the point of an X-Men game is to be able to play as your favorite X-Man - Cyclops, Wolverine, Gambit, Nightcrawler, Storm, Beast, etc.

WTF is this of playing a nobody who just builds up on powers as the game progresses and then you choose to either be with the X-Men or on Magneto's side?

i'll pass

i'd rather stick to playing X-Men Legeds on the Gamecube or even the 2 X-Men games that came out on Sega Genesis

I like the idea of being the new guy who tips the balance, but I totally dislike having 3 characters to choose from.

Yeah, you should have had complete creative control of your character.

Yeah, I mean I could see myself potentially being the first guy, or the chick (even though they just look like civillians, with no costume) but the dumb, meat head jock? Who would ever want to be a character like that?

well, according to the adds at the back of comic books in the old days, we do.

After seeing X-men First Class, I'm suddenly quite interested in this game

Lol I'm probably off the opposite attitude... After seeing a quality X-Men product, i'm less impressed by something that seems to be of less quality. Although I will agree in part with you, I was potentially more interested in the 'choose magneto' side of things than I ever would have been before seeing First Class. Fassbender did such a great portrayal.

I have to agree...if they are going to go action/rpg, then let us make the character, not use a pre-made.

I wouldn't even be bothered too much by the pre-set origins, as long as we can still change the character's appearance. Like DAO.

Exactly. The whole notion of a pre-written, pre-determined character could still work if you could customise their appearance, like hair, clothes etc.

this game looks like crap, and the fact that you are stuck with 3 uninteresting pre-set characters totally killed my interest in this game.

When I first heard of this game, I was hoping it would be Mass Effect with mutants and X-men. But alas............

Its an Activision published game, never expect quality that high under Activision. They dont believe in quality products.

Exactly my thoughts. Pass on this game, no question now.

Right. Especially with games like Skyrim and ME3 coming out ( which do offer freedom to create your own characters ), why would I bother to spend my money on this?

If I play an X-men game, and if I can't create my own custom mutant, then I definitely want to play as my favorite X-man. This game apparently offers us the chance to do neither.

I would have much rather have them make an updated X-men Legends type RPG or a new X-men fighting game ala Next Dimensions. Heck, even a 3d action/platform type game like Shattered Dimensions would have been cool.

I just have to say: you know, really, ME and ME2 really totally suck, like for real, and so will ME3, because I want my male Shepard to have BIG HAIR like from the metal bands, man, and since I can't it means the games really fail to live up to my expectations and they ****ing suck.

I mean, really, what's with no big hair options? :(

Military standard? Lack of hair flowing engine? Come to think of it, all the female hair in the games are either non-existent or tied up. Miranda being an exception, it was basically clay anyway.

I wouldn't mind more hairstyle options in ME3.................

ah I see what ya did there, bastard...

this is, just a liiiittle bit different tho.

three completely preset (not to mention poorly designed) characters is a tad more restrictive then not having unlimited hair-do options. Full customizability isn't necessary, but allow players some level of unique-ness in their appearance

If Jon Bon Jovi can do it, BioWare should be able to do it 20-something-years later! Stop making excuses for sucky game designers and sucky games! :cmad:

:woot:

To give you a longer response, since you getting it merits one:

I know it's different. I was mocking the sentiment that a game sucks because it isn't what the player wanted it to be.

I'd be more interested in this game if (1) you can pick from popular X-Men and customize his or her mutant powers in RPG style or (2) you have to choose from pre-arranged mutant abilities, but you can customize your character look in just about any way you want.

Unfortunately, this game seems to do neither of these things.

the IGN article says you can change your characters costumes...........big whoop.
