As awesome as it would be to have Wolverine in the MCU, Dr Doom is much more needed and needs it much more.

Face it, the most important character to add to the MCU is Dr. Doom...the ultimate villain...most people should shiver at the mere mention of his name. Latveria and Doom are an absolute MUST for the MCU!!!

And why would Fox want to damage, perhaps irreparably, a franchise they intend to hold onto for an extended period of time?

I'm sure they don't. However, "doing a $10M budget movie" probably would count as such. So if they wanted to keep the license by making a movie, they'd need to at least pretend they were aiming for quality ( no worse than the original two ).

Doing that wouldn't damage the property if the intent is to do the bare minimum to hang onto the license, in which case they wouldn't expect it to damage the brand because they wouldn't promote it, they'd play it in the minimum number of theatres for the shortest amount of time (probably only a single theatre), and then pull it out of theatres in the quickest amount of time. Such a move wouldn't harm the brand if NOBODY knows about it and the only place to see the new Fantastic Four movie was in a small theatre in a sleazy part of Hoboken, New Jersey, and only for one night before it promptly goes to the $1 DVD bin with all the millions of other B-Movies that nobody's ever heard about. That's what a Fox executive said they'd do with the X-Men if worst came to worst and they were in danger of losing the license, and that's likely what they'd do with the Fantastic Four if they REALLY wanted to keep it.

And they might have been able to get away with such a scheme if Marvel was still an independent studio. But the company is now owned by Disney, the most zealous defender of intellectual property rights in the world. Such a move would lead to an extraordinarily costly and lengthy lawsuit.

I would be surprised if the two companies don't reach a deal, something along the lines of Fox getting an extension on its DD rights along with (limited-time) character rights to strengthen both the DD and X-Men franchises - The Punisher and Cable come to mind. The FF reboot then kicks off the third stage of the MCU (with either a major role or a post credit scene in Avengers 2) with Fox and Disney cofinancing. Or Disney simply cuts a check like they did with Sony ($278 million for 50% of Spider-man movie merchandising rights) or Paramount ($115 million plus for distribution rights on the MCU).

It depends on the specifics of the contract, but Fox executives have already said that that's what they'd do if they were ever in danger of losing the rights to the X-Men license due to their time running out, so the same option likely holds true for the Fantastic Four. I doubt that's something they'd even consider as a possibility if it weren't possible by the terms of their contract. Disney may not have any grounds on which to sue, and even if they do, that doesn't mean they'd win or that Fox would be averse to fighting that lawsuit.

I remember that quote from the supposed executive at Fox, but it made little sense. Where is Fox going to find a theater operator willing to put themselves in the middle of an intellectual property dispute between Fox and Disney? And would that operator be able to keep his theater open after being banned from ever showing Disney, Pixar, Touchstone or Marvel films in their cinema?

I think your all going about this all wrong..

Fox will continue to push out stillborn comicbook films for as long as it is marketable... So if they flop like Elektra did then they'll have no need for them.

So the hope is for Marvel to get all of their rights back sooner rather than later to prevent Fox and Sony from ruining these franchises beyond repair. Look at Ghost Rider and The Punisher for instance. You'd think that Lions Gate would know better by now but....there you have it.

FF fits the best in the MCU. At this point, it would be weird for mutants to start coming out of the woodwork and be hated for their abilities, so reluctantly, I think X-Men should stay with Fox, and I don't really care where DD goes.

and I don't really care where DD goes.

You can honestly blame Fox for part of that. DD isn't one of my top superhero's either but there's no denying that there has been some amazing story runs in DD's books throughout resent years.

Fox however has the tendency of taking great characters and story lines and spitting them out like soap!

Eh, makes sense to me. I very much doubt that Marvel/Disney/etc can threaten every single theatre operator in the entire country. Nevermind that whatever theater they do end up renting to four-wall the movie may not necessarily have to be one which typically plays new Hollywood film releases. Moreover, there isn't a legal dispute so long as Fox meets the minimum requirements as stipulated in the contract. You can't sue someone for abiding by the terms of the contract, even if you don't like how they do it.

The fact that a Fox executive even considered it a possibility for a property as large as the X-Men, and talked about it in public, indicates that it's a very reasonable prospect. It certainly wouldn't be the first time that's happened, as the Roger Corman Fantastic Four movie was made for the very purpose of meeting the bare minimum required for hanging onto the rights (although given the comments by that executive, the contractual obligations may've changed to require that the film actually play in a theater, hence the Fox executives comments about four-walling a movie).

FF has the most to contribute I think. I agree that the X-Men being hated for their abilities would be silly and it seems like with X-Men: First Class 2 or whatever it will be called they're working on getting forward motion for the franchise again, after The Last Stand pretty much killed it, and from interviews I've read Bryan Singer and the other producers are seeing the potential the X-universe has to be something on the scale of the MCU. The chances that we would get to see spin offs devoted to individual X-Men or any of the side teams (X-Factor or New Mutants for instance) are pretty low if the X-Men are contained to the MCU with everything Marvel studios has in the pipeline.

I want to see a proper gritty Daredevil flick drawing from Frank Miller and Bendis' runs. I'm open to a more lighthearted straightup superhero flick ala Mark Waid's run but I'd want a gritty movie first and I'm not certain that we could get something like that with the film under Marvel Studios.

As for FF, with them you get Silver Surfer, Galactus, The Watcher, all sorts of cool stuff. Not to mention Doctor Doom, with Doom being over at Marvel alongside Iron Man they could have them face off in a sort of loose adaptation of Doomquest and we all know that would be cool.

Not really. For the most part X-Men have been fairly segregated from most major Marvel events. You could remove the entire Mutant race from the Marvel Universe and not see much change to any comic that doesn't have an 'X' in the title.

marvel wont ever get x men back we have had 5 x men related films in 12 years and 2 more coming(Wolverine & DOFP)

and we haven't even gotten:

Shadow King
Mister Sinister
Apocalypse
The Sentinels

Went with X Men just because there is so much there to work with.

I badly want Blade back and The Punisher done right.

I voted FF. They most naturally belong at Disney/ Marvel.

Are there any hot Marvel Studios executives that some Fox executives might like to sleep with? Marvel could offer them up and take one for the team in order to get the FF rights back. :hehe:

The Sentinels

There was a poor excuse for a Sentinel in the Danger Room in X3, so as far as the other characters go. Be careful what you wish for...

be careful what i wish for you mean like xmen,x2 and first class?

i will gladly keep on wishing

Brett Ratner is no longer associated with the franchise, so I think we'll be fine.

Didn't Brett Ratner once want to cast Serena Williams in the role of one of the mutants as some actual character who is normally blonde possibly, and a bit of a hooker type? I don't know which character that is, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't Emma Frost. I don't know why anyone would want to watch her? I'm remember her little role in Law and Order: SVU. :barf:

I just had to Google this, because it didn't even sound remotely right.
How wrong I was.
"Pherma" was a character he was going to *invent* for X3, and she was going to be a bisexual hooker who could seduce anything that walked. And yes, he invented the character specifically for his gf Serena.

How very, very Ratner. :oldrazz:

Here's an article. I dont' know if it's the same link you saw. There were various news articles at the time of X3:

http://www.monitorduty.com/2005/07/...k-of-excellence-on-forthcoming-x-men-3-movie/

In a move that is bound to ensure a plethora of Oscar nominations, director Brett Ratner has decided to introduce the character “Pherma” into the X-men cast. She will be a bi-sexual hooker who has the mutated genetic propensity to seduce any man, woman or transgendered being. I suspect that when this character ages and retires that they can change her name to X-****e.

Brett, thank you for finally introducing some true class and innovation into the source material of the Marvel universe. Why try to get Colossus added to the cast (*as many fans have requested) when you can make such a prudently deft decision such as this. Here I’ve been concerned over nothing the past month when I heard online that you were taking over the movie’s director chair. Cheers, fine chap, for taking a calculated risk that is not likely to offend parents, X-fans, or anyone fond of the characters.

I am totally kidding. What a sleazeball.Did I mention that the two of the woman trying out for the role are Venus and Serena Williams (of tennis star fame)? Oh, did I also mention that Ratner also recently dated Serena Williams. Hmmmm… what a strange coincidence.

I think with Serena or Venus in the role, he should've made it transsexual hooker, because that's what they look like in the accompanying image on that page:

Daredevil Is going back to Marvel.

and for many we like to forget The Last Stand and focus on X-Men,X2,and first Class.
