X-Men - Part 5

Last time I saw Marrow was in X-Factor. She joined some terrorist cell of depowered mutants called X-Cell.

The situation you described almost feels like the exception in Marvel's case. When Marvel ended the original/changed-to government X-Factor and then brought it back in '04 as Madrox's mutant investigators, that's the acceptable scenario where you renumber a series cuz that book actually is different. But when they cancel the longest-running Uncanny X-Men and then next month "relaunch" it as Uncanny X-Men with the Regenesis banner because of its "new direction", then end the second volume a year later only to be relaunched AGAIN three months later is bs.

And what's even more rediculous is that BOTH TIMES issue 1 picked up the story straight from the final issue of the previous volume.

The original Uncanny X-Men ended with Sinister studying the X-Men and perfecting the cloning process on himself. The first arc of Vol. 2 started with the X-Men taking on Sinister now that his cloning process is perfected.

Volume 2 ended with Cyclops in prison post-AvX and the rest of the team on the run. There was the mini Consequences written by the same writer that was essentially the next 5 issues of Uncanny since it picked up right after the final issue of Volume 2, and then the ending of Consequences is picked up right at the beginning of Bendis' Volume 3.

So despite all the bs explanations by Marvel why Uncanny HAD to be relaunched... it never once had to be. It's just Marvel putting more trust in quick gimmicks than their talent's ability to actually tell good stories.

Well that sucks that marvel tends to ignore Endsong...what the f. Its so good. Its like the only Jean Grey comic related book that I have. The rest are just All New X-Men, Astonishing X-Men by Joss Wedon...a few other ones too. I also have some Thor comic books too.

It's not just Endsong. AvX ignored 80% of the Phoenix mythos. I swear it was plotted by someone who'd only read The Dark Phoenix Saga.

Well, that's what happens when you get Brian "Who gives a **** about continuity?" Bendis involved.

I loved the idea of Jean going to the White Hot Room to collect the pieces of the Phoenix Force that have been scattered throughout the universe. It set up an awesome return for her eventually, while being emotionally satisfying and a proper sendoff after her abrupt death.

Too bad Marvel completely and utterly ignored it without explanation, and now we have teen Jean. I think Gillen was the only one to mention the White Hot Room in Uncanny (which I loved).

Also...theres a lot of speculation surrounding The Wolverine and DOFP that Jean could return as The White Phoenix of the Crown...so if Marvel ignores Endsong...does that mean the movies have to ignore it?

Been real cool to see Rogue in top form again. Both Wood and Remender have been writing her pretty damn good.

Even when the baby from Messiah Complex turned out not to be Jean (and thank god for that), I assumed they'd still eventually acknowledge the end of Endsong by having Jean show up and pass the mantle onto Hope. But no, they pretty much dumped all the continuity.

Hope was such a giant fail. It was years and years of Cable then Scott saying things to her like "you're too important" and "future of the mutant race" only for Marvel to write her off to a second tier X-Force book.

I think some writer actually used those lines in a similar fashion post AvX, I almost fell out of my chair.

Personally, I think that all of the writers involved with AvX clearly didn't give a **** about the event. Marvel wanted a summer event that nobody really didn't want to write so Hickman, Bendis, Brubaker, Aaron, and Fraction just all half-assed it. However, now that AvX was a success for Marvel as opposed to the downward spiral we got with Fear Itself, we're now getting two events a year from Marvel now :o

It's a minor event like Shadowland or Spider-Island that was promoted as a major one. It's a disappointment.

Read X-men #1 but 1 thing I didn't get was Rogue's powers. How did she have super strength? She mentioned she touched Northstar, but isn't he just a speedster and flier? Strength isn't a part of his power base

Isn't there something having to do with speed where if something is hit with enough speed, the force of it is like added strength? I could be making that up in my head.

Or Rogue could have simply touched someone else for the strength/invulnerability and didn't mention it. With someone like Rogue, I tend not to overthink it.

Well Gambit is cancelled as of September. I hate anyone and everyone that didn't buy that title. :argh::argh::argh:

It was fantastic and will be sorely missed in my pull list. Hopefully Asmus and Mann get bigger profile books at Marvel, they deserve the promotion 100%.

man that sucks. I love Gambit and eagerly wanted him to get another title, but I didnt read it past the first arc

So in this "Battle of The Atom" event, it seems we're getting another schism, this time centered around a disagreement around whether or not the past X-Men should be sent home to their time, or whether they should be allowed to stay.
Now I have to say, I will pretty much lose all respect for any character that says they should stay. You're being warned by future versions of yourself that these people must be returned to their time to avoid a catastrophe, and you're gunna say "nahh **** that"?? As it is, they shouldnt be there, so why cause a disaster to keep them there.
I just don't see how they could make a large disagreement ou ofa that, because people on one side of it would all come off as complete morons the whole time
I dunno, sorry I'm rambling, but I don't see how you could center a whole event around such a stupid disagreement

I just hate that X-Men is being pulled into it (like I am guessing some of you hate that Wolverine and the X-Men is getting pulled into it). I was hoping to be able to read a fairly self-contained X-Men book. As much as I want there to be a big 50th anniversary thing, I am not interested in the Bendis X-Men books at all.

At least they are including X-men as one of the core books, instead of treating it like a fringe title. It is a shame that Uncanny X-men and ANXM get 10+ issues in before the crossover, but X-men only gets four. The premise behind the event seems like it could have been dealt in ANXM instead of dragging other books into it. Oh well. It could still be a great story.
