Screw Wolverine. Screw Cyclops. Screw Havok. I'm team Kitty Pryde.

[blackout]Makes you wonder how long until we're forced to read an event that revolves around Wolverine getting possessed by the Phoenix, doesn't it?
[/blackout]

It happened in Astonishing Spider-man or whatever it was called a few year ago, the spidey-wolverine team up written by Aaron, I think, and drawn by Adam Kubert.

It was a fun story where they got all phoenixed up and battled some time-hoping thugs, there was even a dark-phoenix-gun. Not exactly part of continuity, but it was better than AvX.

I'm pretty sure that was in continuity. Wasn't that the first place Dog Logan showed up after Origin and prior to Wolverine & the X-Men? I've not read it but I read about it in interviews.

Faint praise if ever I heard it.

I picked up some copes of "New X-men" for something different to read (haven't read any of this series) I have issues 114-121...

just wondering if these issues are general self-contained stores, or are there any major plot points (from earlier issues) that I should know about to be able to follow this set?

From what I remember Morrison's New X-Men is totally self-contained. Yes you need to know Jean Grey has recently tapped into her Phoenix power, and Emma Frost used to be a bad guy, and Cyclops had just been resurrected from his fusion with Apocalypse, but they seem to cover that stuff throughout his run.

New X-Men and Uncanny X-Men were doing their own thing at that time while holding to a similar status quo. Astonishing X-Men picked up where Morrison's X-Men left off.

Yeah, New X-Men is completely stand alone. The only important information you need to know is that Cyclops recently returned from being merged with Apocalypse and is growing distant from Jean Grey. I'm fairly certain everything else is explained as you go.

thanks, good to know

starting reading through the first issue this morn, was able to put together anything I may have missed pretty easily... seems pretty good so far

Also it helps to have a slight understanding of Eve of Destruction to understand stuff relevant to Magento and Genosha.

Just found out Gambit's solo book by James Asmus is cancelled in september:/ Can anyone recommend any ongoing that Gambit is actually in much? Ive never been an X reader but his Solo was fun

(Hurray for my first post on this forum) :)

This was the first Gambit series I've ever read. There were two 4 issue limited series that were released in the late 90's but I know nothing about them.

And welcome to the Hype

There was a Gambit ongoing in the late '90s/early '00s, I think. I don't remember who wrote it, but I remember it looked great because Steve Skroce penciled it.

Skroce was all right. He had a brief yet solid run on ASM and did a few issues of Uncanny here and there. I think he did one in particular that led into that Gambit series you mentioned. I also think he did Wolverine at one point too.

Whatever happened to that guy anyway?

He is in the current Astonishing X-men. :D He gets a few lines here and there in that.

Skroce was one of the better Gambit artists. :D

Why? He's ultra real, very detailed. I eat that right up. I can't stand cartoony stuff. :(

Ultra real? Skroce's stuff was cartoony and very exaggerated

Those anime eyes are the definition of cartoony
