X-Men - Part 5

and who said those are alternate timeline future X-Men?
the O5 seem to be the real deal 616 versions, so its possible the future ones are real too
the future is not set in stone, hence why these are considered alternate timeline X-men. Considering they are here to make sure that Jean and the rest return to the past, this future which they come form will diverge from current 616 without that Jean there, assuming she is infact the Jean that was plucked from the past.

or maybe their future will disappear or change entirely...
the rules are all messed up now, so there's no telling

I hate the extra-important "time is broken" style of time travel we've got now. I love time travel like Avengers Forever, though.

I'll say it again. I hate time travel.

Time travel works when it's kept simple and linear. The premise that "You can't got forward or backward in time and change things. The second you time travel, you create a divergent timeline and can never return to your original one" is the one I subscribe to. I remember taking a time travel class in college and one of the 3 questions on the mid-term was "Can you go back in time and kill yourself?" Best. Class. Ever.

Remember back in the day when only Dr. Doom was smart enough to make a time machine that could affect the main timeline? Good times...

Most versions of Kang's backstory have him as a descendant of either Doom or Reed or both, so it's kind of the same thing.

Guys like Beast and Forge seem to be able to build a time machine in an afternoon now.

hmm.. so is "future Jean" back for good?

so far I've been unsold on the "O5" coming back-- I felt that the gimmick would have been better handled if they were from a literal 1963 timeline-- with all of the world events, general knowledge and cultural frames of reference intact--

That wouldn't work since the Marvel Universe's time has only crept about 15-20 years since the 60s (and that's not the same for every character). If Cyclops was 16 in 1963 he'd be 66 in today's comics. At best these O5 X-Men are from the early-mid 90s.

I'm waiting for the scene where we see teen Hank singing Cant Touch This.

Correction: This is an ALTERNATE FUTURE Jean. She's not the real deal.
This is apparently from the way they talk the future "past" Jean Grey that stays in the present and doesn't go back to her original time. What happened to the rest of the O5 in the future? Only the next 6 issues will tell.

I love Jeanie but watching future Jean A.K.A. Xorn lay the telepathic smackdown on past Jean was satisfying, of course 'til Emma stepped in, annoying me again.

And Kitty,:cmad:. Ororo should have just told her to shut up because the moment you can't even trust yourself your argument is null and void.

I'm liking this event but the incessant need for these characters to say the stupidest, most illogical things is grating on my last nerve.

Ugh, I hate that they called her Xorn on panel.

So...it's like every Marvel event then? :cwink:

This event has been a lot of the heroes just standing around talking or fighting with each other. There is no real threat from an established villain. This is the same stuff Bendis did ALL THE TIME when he was writing the Avengers.

I think I may be done with X-Men comics for a while.

No, Bendis always had some sort of threat in his Avengers run. I can't think of a time when he didn't. That is something he's been lacking in the X-Men department though.

I am still waiting to see where all this goes. We're still kinda early in. It hasn't gotten eye roll worthy for me yet. :p

I'll definitely finish the event, but so far it's not convincing me to jump aboard All New and Uncanny after it's over.

I'll stay with All New because it looks like X23 is joining up and I really like her. I am also going to check out the Amazing. Love me some Nightcrawler. :D

I personally think this is the best Bendis has written in ages. After Secret Invasion he just lost his touch.

I kinda agree. All New has consistently been the best written X-book of the last year and the one to benefit the most from Now. Uncanny is also good although ANX is better
