X-Men - Part 6

Apocalypse Wars looks like it should be pretty great! Also, I just realized that Uncanny X-Men got pushed back to January and now I'm a bit disappointed.

well X-Men has historically had the best events/crossovers (battle of the atom aside) so I'm pretty excited to see what happens, although these partially-movie-related events tend to be the worst of the bunch (again, BoTA)

the only things I don't want to happen:
1. Warren coming back whether as Angel or Archangel and undoing the Uncanny X-Force ending for the character
2. Evan becoming evil, also essentially undoing the whole point of UXF

that series was too damn good, I don't wanna see it undone for Apocalypse Wars unless it is of equal caliber, which will be a difficult bar to cross

I'd hate to see Evan go evil. I don't think he will since he's part of ANXM's lineup. They'll probably tease it though.

Warren needs to come back. What was done with him after UXF ws an absolute travesty. I havent picked up the books aside from Extraordinary Xmen #1 and thought he had been shown to be coming back in All New Marvel unless that was just a red herring teaser

ETA: This is what I was referring to
UXM-full-d341f.jpg
. He's set to be back next year, just in time for this event it seems

I'd actually be okay if just Archangel come back, but not Warren
I know we've discussed this before, but while Warren was mishandled post-UXF, that doesn't mean I want to see his amazing death scene reversed

For a second, I thought you were talking about Warren Ellis instead of Warren Worthington.

I think there's more story potential with him as a good guy, assuming grown-up Apocalypse is there too. Creates a good conflict.

Deadpool & Cable was great. Though, I clearly am way, way out of the loop of what is going on with both of them.

Crap. I passed on that because it was five bucks. Maybe I should have grabbed it.....

Lucky for me my comic book buy orders spares. I'm sure there will be one or two left over for me next Wednesday. :)

The thing to remember about the five bucks, is that it is longer than a normal comic. Essentially the two online chapters in one book.

Fell behind a few weeks, just catching up now. Beast's trial was messed up. Poor guy :(

#600 was a mess.

Only really liked the Colossus/Magik/Kitty stuff.

The Colossus/Magik/Kitty stuff was good. I surprisingly liked the Iceman stuff better than I thought I would. Still not a huge fan of Iceman being gay as I hate when they change long established characters, but I can get used to it. Maybe he and Northstar can hook up since that's what Northstar wanted to do back during Austen's run. (edit - Wait... Northstar's still married, right? Maybe that wouldn't be a great idea.)

The Beast stuff I could give or take, though I wish it had a better ending. I'm tired of the constant breaking apart of the team. Cyclops' ending was decent I guess. Fairly anti-climactic. It felt like Bendis had a lot of ideas that he couldn't do and just threw together something to wrap up what he was doing.

All-in-all I guess I'll remember Bendis' run fondly with some hesitation. The only thing that I really didn't like was that he had the O5 stick around. If he'd have sent them back around Battle of the Atom, I think I'd have liked it a lot more. But overall his run was fine.

What do you guys think of the newer stuff?

I think Lemire has a decent start going with Extraordinary X-Men. Ramos' art is killing me, but at least it's better than it used to be. Still hate Cyclops as a bad guy, but we'll see if that changes down the road.

All-New X-Men is surprisingly fun. I still hate that the O5 are here, but at least it seems we're getting a decent story out of it. And including Evan is pretty cool. I don't really care for Idie, but at least adding the two of them mixes things up a bit. I love Bagely on art.

All-New Wolverine has been fairly boring so far. I like Laura as a character and LOVED her series by Marjorie Liu, but I've not really cared for what I've read of her since. This series is still new, but so far I'm bored.

Stoked for Uncanny X-Men. Stoked for the upcoming Apocalypse story.

Extraordinary #1 is the only book Ive touched since UXM 600. Marvel has killed my interest in the X-men and well their line of books in general

I'm honestly in the same boat. I read the books out of habit now and look at them as simply the current creative run. I no longer look at them as a part of X-Men history. For me, X-Men's history stopped with Eve of Destruction.

I jumped ship to the Inuhamns books which are far better than the X-Men books at the moment. The Inhumans are occupying the same world that hates and fears them territory the X-Men used to own.

Uncanny Inhumans has been fantastic, but All-New Inhumans hasn't really done much for me.

CBR's drooling over it. I read the first issue and Angel was my favorite part :o. I love that they let Groot, Gamora, and Angel keep their Black Vortex powers too.

I've been enjoying All-New Wolverine, personally. But I do have to agree, Angel was the best part.

While there are elements that are the same, there's a lot that are different between the two (at least, they're not replacements). The Inhumans bring with them the royal family. They bring the idea that they're a race. The new Inhumans came from our society, but they join Attilan's society. It's not like mutants, many of whom consider themselves Americans, Canadians, Russians, etc. first. A mutant registration act is the US regulating their own citizens. An Inhuman registration act would be a declaration of war against Attilan. I could see it in an almost Japanese internment camp story, but it would still play out differently from a mutant analogy story.

I've been enjoying it a lot too, but it helps that they have Charles Soule on two books and Warren Ellis on a third.

Mike hit the nail on the head. Couldn't have said it better! Actually James Asmus is writing All New Inhumans - Soule gave him a general guideline of events on how he wants All-New to go, but otherwise has given Asmus free reign with the filler.

As for X-books I was thinking of picking up All-New X-Men by Hopeless (loving Spider-Woman) Glad to hear it seems like a fun read - will pick it up tomorrow!

I liked Uncanny X-men 600. Structurally it was pretty messy and Bendis is kind of awful with resolutions to his plots, though. Iceman coming out was handled decently and wasn't worth the controversy at all. At the end of the day we have an entrenched gay A-list X-man that won't go away like Northstar does (also Northstar just sucks). I'll always remember Bendis' run fondly for elevating Magik to her current status, bringing Jean back with a hell of a lot of agency, and giving Cyclops some introspective stories.

I like the new stuff as much as I can I guess. I don't like that the X-men are once again fighting for survival, especially because this time it doesn't have the gravity like it did during the post-M-Day stuff (and Messiah Complex and Second Coming were great events that came out as I started reading comics regularly). That being said, I love the core team on Extraordinary and their new looks are pretty cool. The team dynamic is great.

All-New X-men is way better than I thought it would be. I love the idea of Cyclops fighting the ghosts of Cyclops. And I'm glad Evan and Idie are regulars on a book. It's really weird going from 600 where Cyclops united mutants on a march in Washington to him being the most hated man ever apparently.

I have no interest in reading Inhumans under Marvel's current attempt to push them at the cost of the X-men.
