I was a HUUUGEEEE X-Men fan all my life.
After Fraction took over and then Bendis, it just nosedived more and more. They flat out didn't even understand the X-Men or Professor Xs dream and it showed in the writing. I was worried the whole franchise was unsalvageable but I could take it for what it was if the stories were fun.
Now...
I'm resentful that the timetravelling O5 are STILL around. They outstayed their welcome within a few issues. The ACTUAL O5 are still far more interesting and would much rather a book with them.
I'm annoyed that we FINALLY get a Jean/Phoenix solo series and it's about a young bratty version that shouldn't even exist.
I'm frustrated that we finally managed to get an Iceman ongoing series, but they've swapped his sexuality for a few media brownie points to get it made. I understand they want some focus on gay characters, but I'd have genuinely rather had a book to develop more of Anole or Graymalkin (who's origin story was devastatingly sad - would love to see more of him). Marvels scared to actually grow new characters.
Even Weapon X is focussed on ANOTHER parallel universe Logan who's story has already been told. Old Man Logan - It was a good story. It was complete. It ended. We don't need to keep seeing him again. That and Sabretooth, who's good now because he literally just woke up good one day. Character development ftw!
There are SO MANY, SOOO MANY good characters in the X-Men mythos, why is such a huge amount of the X-Books dedicated to all this AU/time travel crap? Even X-Men gold has the blandest team of X-Men I've ever seen before. I'd be more excited about a series where Maggott, Extreme, StaceyX and Beak went on a road trip in the Mojoverse than I am about any of the current titles tbh.
