Sequels X-Men Reboot

Should the X-Men film franchise be rebooted?

  • Yes, reboot it! Doesn't matter who or how.

  • Yes, but only if Marvel has the rights.

  • No, Fox is doing just fine. Let them keep popping out sequels.

  • I don't care. X-Men are X-Men.

By the way, if both JLaw and Fassbender jump ship, McAvoy might too, didn't he say he'd do another one if he'd get to work with both of them? I wonder if losing all three of them will make FOX want to reboot. Listen I love the new young X-Men but I'm not interested in seeing another period X-Men movie, it's a gimmick at this point and the continuity is a mess. And before someone calls that out as "just as my opinion", I'm not the only one who thinks that, I'm pretty sure critics felt the same "period setting fatigue" with Apocalypse. A fresh start (and fresh everything) is needed for this franchise.

However if they don't reboot it will be proof that they at least have some sort of confidence in characters like Jean Grey and Cyclops (as played by Sophie Turner and Tye Sheridan) headlining X-Men films, which is a good thing too.

We'll see...

If they lose McAvoy its game over IMO. But if they offer him a nice deal, is he going to walk away just cause JLaw and Fassbender do too? $ talks.

No its not. Just where the story takes place.

Not really. Primary complaints and criticisms were about a weak villain who had weak motivations and an undefined power set. Repetitive stories and miss-used characters were main issues as well. None of that had anything to do with the period setting of the film.

A fresh start (and fresh everything) is needed for this franchise.
This young cast can be a fresh start. They could do a lot without the regular screen hogs around.

I don't remember any critics having an issue with it being a period movie mostly because it being a period movie wasn't played on all that much at all.

I don't get why people believe if these actors leave fox wouldn't think about recasting, it's crazy because of course the first thought would be to recast lol.

Believe me they won't get the Hugh Jackman treatment where they are held in a mantel as irreplaceable, Jackman is the only special case in that respect.

And hey if jlaw doesn't come back and if say they decide not to recast for whatever reason it's an even bigger stretch to say fassbender would refuse to come back also purely because he has a healthy film career right now and honestly it makes me laugh when people make out fassbender is too famous for X-Men now because you might as well just say the franchise just isn't good enough for high profile actors to wanna be involved in unless apparently i guess it's the MCU, in which case let's all just agree that X-men in general just isn't good enough.

Give an X-Men film without some combination of Wolverine, Magneto & Mystique a chance for once.

Cyke, Emma, Beast, Shadowcat, Iceman, X-23, Cable ? fat chance even if set in present but hey, it's different

Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Nightcrawler, Jubilee, Northstar, Psylocke

That'd be a really progressive team as far as comic book movies go. Psylocke, Jubilee, Storm barely got lines last film

Not bad! Northstar is a must have for an upcoming X-Men movie.

For Psylocke, I think they should give Psylocke her body swap background story. Make her original body that of a male Englishman, then swap with a female ninja.

You capture two things: Changing race/culture and changing gender. Of course, let Munn keep doing all that badassery she did for Apocalypse...

Yes but honestly I dislike Quicksilver and want him replaced with a more traditional X-Man.

Love to see this on screen

As far as Psylocke I'd prefer they give her a Kunochi look and get rid of the thong.

really people moan about use of characters and some want 14 X_men in one film:whatever:

Welcome to the world of fans wanting things. :whatever:

You are not the only fan here.

Avengers 3 and 4 would probably showcase a dozen or more Avengers and that is exciting even fir someone who doesn't read the Avengers. and a X-Men movie filled with fourteen X-Men would be glorious!

Juggling a lot of characters is certainly more easier said then done.

The ones that we saw at the end of Dofp minus Logan and Xavier are good enough for me. Throw in Gambit and it's a party. It would probably be easier to include a X-Force and Deaddpool cameo there too.

Yeah because they woudnt wanna bring back Patrick Stewart as Xavier.

if there is reboot of X-Men they defently would do new wolverine.

sequel to Apocalypse is only way your getting full X_Men film without wolverine.

the entire reaosn wolverine was choosen as focal character for first X-men film was he was most popular X-man.sorry but it's the truth.

Who ****ing cares who is popular!

That kinda closed minded thinking is what got this franchise in the mud in the first place.

Ant-Man, Deadpool, Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Dr. Strange, Guardians have all lapped Wolverine and they weren't ever as popular as Wolverine.

Just make good movies the characters don't matter if your accurate to actual comics the fans will respond

There is nothing stopping Wolverine appearing in a possible sequel to Apocalypes. It could use the boost. He will replace Raven on the team from that last Danger room shot.

Personally i honestly don't think they will recast wolverine anytime soon, they obviously have the option to do it but going by what they have done with X-Men: apocalypse and what they are doing with a much older wolverine for his 3rd movie aswell as all the years of bigging up jackman in the role as younger and older wolverine for 8 or 9 movies... No i think they will try their best to push the franchise forward without wolverine for a little while with New Mutants, Gambit, Deadpool, X-Force and X-Men without wolverine.

No decisions for this series should be taken for granted, neither should they be ignored, everything happens for a reason.

I just don't see them recasting Wolverine just so people would watch another X-Men movie, that would just show Fox's confidence with the X-Men as a property and it would screw up the continuity even more

IMO, full reboot if they want to recast Wolverine which would mean a clean slate to every X-Men character.

They ain't rebooting anytime soon because they have projects planned, new mutants is being developed, deadpool 2 and 3 are on the way with X-Force and gambit slowly being developed and all these movies will probably take fox up to at least 2021 or more depending on their success rate of each project.

And i didn't count X-Men purely because everyone is counting X-Men in when they talk about rebooting but they never count the other movies FOX have planned which will likely take place in the same universe.

I really hope JLaw turns down the offer. I don't see Michael Fassbender turning down the role, while McAvoy and the inferior version of Beast - they seem like the type of actor that would likely stay in a movie franchise for a long time. So for those people who are tired of these period films, there's not much hope if it all depends on the availability of the male FC actors.

Though hopefully with Apocalypse underperforming, Fox is still thinking twice about bringing them back and making another film set in the past.

Wolverine is key to X-Men for the GA, so I really wonder what they'll think of him passing the baton down to X-23. It sounds like a good experiment. >: )

now, if they can make Deadpool and New Mutants films, they can make X-Films with a fresh (but reasonable) X-men team. *cough* first class *cough*

My layout of the rebooted universe:

New Mutants - March 2018
Deadpool 2 - July 2018
Gambit - November 2018
X-Force - Feb 2019
Uncanny X-Men - June 2019
Starjammers - Oct/Nov 2019
Deadpool 3 - 2020
New Mutants 2 - 2020
Gambit 2 - 2020
Excalibur - 2021
X-Men: Phoenix Rising - 2021
X-Force 2 - 2021
New Mutants 3 - 2022
X-Men: Dark Phoenix -2022
Starjammers 2 - 2022

Like the sound of that, but that sort of ambitious thinking is way too good for Fox's approach of playing it one or two steps at a time. As vast as the X-Men universe is, I doubt they have the vision to map out a series of films or slate, akin to what Marvel Studios has with its phases.

And until Gambit has a director, that release date is one giant question mark.
