I think that if they description is correct it would be more along the lines of the classic Cylons from Galactica but we haven't seen the art yet just a description which could be off for a variety of reasons.

Yeah I think so too, thus the description of it being "one eye". In any case I am giddy to see what Wan comes up with for Manta's design and what exactly the take on the character is going to be. No pun... Hopefully there's some depth to Manta as an antagonist for Aquaman. I wonder if they will age Abdul-Mateen up quite a bit? I still love the YJ version of Manta to pieces. Before he was cast as Deadshot I was hoping Smith would play Manta.

I would like to know if Abdul-Mateen is contracted for more than one film for sure. Both Orm and Manta are in AM, but I have no problem if Orm bites it by film's end. Manta needs to be kept around to vex Aquaman in possible future installments or at least as a member of a possible Legion Of Doom in a JL sequel.

Yeah I'm hoping for a multi picture deal and I want them to do the injustice league. It's a great way to beat marvel at something since they haven't done a proper villain team up yet.

X-men doesn't really count since usually it's magneto and some voiceless goons

Well, Apocalypse was the one calling the shots in...well, Apocalypse, and of the four henchmen there, Magneto arguably got the most to say, even if not much. Though the X-franchise has at least done two villains in one film right with Magneto and Stryker in X-2. Sure, despite being villains, they didn't team up, but they were enemies of each other.

I can't wait to get a glimpse at the design for Manta. Since a lot of the audience aren't familiar with the history I almost wish that they would keep the mask on Vader style for the entire film and only reveal what Manta looks like underneath in the next film. Build some mystique for the character.

Yeah, manta's motivations are going to be interesting in this movie. If Aquaman is more of a swashbuckling pirate/superhero then who is Manta and how does that challenge Arthur?

Got around to watching Part 2 of The Get Down and it was good to see a bit more of Abdul-Mateen's range. Different brand of character, but some of the vulnerabilities shown (or even larger than life nature) could translate depending on how they play Manta up.
