Sci-Fi You Get A Prize, Honey - The 'Doctor Who' Thread

]While I didnt get spoiled by who he regenerates into....I did get spoiled that he regenerates so I rushed to watch the episode before more news came out.o think 14s time was WAY TOOOO SHORT like others have commented. Esp with only 16 episodes (which is really like 14 episodes considering he was missing for some)....thats practically ONE seasons worth of Doctor. Compared to the normal 39 episodes 11 got. It feels like he has soooo much unfinished business. But I did love that he got to meet 13. That was a fabulous scene.

But at least it is a bit of a shock right? Didnt do the usual 3 seasons and his companions arent stuck in some stupid loop or memory prison.

Billie Piper coming back to go from Companion to Doctor.....they better have a good reason for this because it feels a little gimmicky.

We need to end these short ass seasons though! 8 episodes is NOT ENOUGH AT ALL. DW going from 40 episodes a season to 25 episodes a season to 22 to 13 to 8 is...ouch.

We're getting to the point where they might as well due tv movies and switch them out every year.

The BBC, always super eager to spoil it before I get to watch it in America.

The 14/16 fanfics are going to explode.

Sad to see Ncuti go, and I really question when he says that he was always only planning 2 seasons. And just sort of in shock/confusion over who 16 is.

I saw the rumors too and thought that was a stretch, even for Who, but it was true and now we're going to have to wait weeks, if not months for them to clarify what it actually means because that's some cliffhanger ending. Almost literally.

I was behind on this show and hadn't started the new season yet. Last thing I had seen was the last special they did. I was spoiled thanks to opening my web browser and it referring me to a BBC post announcing the change IN THE HEADLINE! Screw you BBC. Not cool. Complete bullcrap.

Which brings me to the event itself: I haven't seen the season. I watched the season premiere, but still got 7 episodes to go. But given how quick they were to headline bomb this and spread it, it feels like stunt casting. I don't immediately see Billie Piper as the Doctor. I am willing to give her a chance like I would anyone else. But it feels like a stunt to get ratings, just like RDJ as Doom did. So I have immediate pushback to this. Desperation never yields the best creative. I hope they had this planned, but it sure feels like a stunt.

As for the tenure, I don't have an immediate opinion to it being short cause I haven't seen the story play out yet. Having a short run as the Doctor can be fine. Eccleston and Tenant 14 both had good short runs (though Tenant is a cheat cause that was essentially more Tenant 10 than new character). But usually to signal it may be a short run, you get a bigger name. Like when they got John Hurt as the War Doctor, you knew he was there just for that. Or if like Jude Law had been the Doctor, chances are it wouldn't have lasted long. It sort of feels like this run was cut short and had more stories to tell based on the 1 season and 2 specials I saw. I liked him in the role.

This feeling like it's cut short also adds to my feeling this is a stunt. Like Disney came in and said "We aren't getting as much traffic as you promised us BBC! Do better!" And that led to this for cheap ratings grab.

I hope Billie Piper is great. But screw BBC for spoiling this so quickly and I have concerns.

Now to finish the season over the next like week or so

I saw that this morning. The BBC was like, "you didn't immediately watch the Who finale? Let's tell you what happened. In the headline."

Months if we were lucky but it'll probably be a good year since BBC doesnt see it returning until 2027

They might throw us a bone and tell us something about what's going to happen before the series (hopefully) returns in 2027.

Ok wow that was something a bit rushed but I had fun.
I’m going to miss Ncuti so much. I loved him from the moment he appeared in that Moment in Time special about William Hartnell.

I’m a bit bummed out we had two black doctors. One got only two seasons, the other just cameos and radio programmes. But if he was happy to leave there that’s all there is to it. Loved the rani.

Also, 16 deserves to exist because of this moment

Rewatching the movie and how funny that one of Doctors first times landing in the US "modern" day and he's automatically shot to regeneration lol

Had to be a bit of commentary on and dig from the Brits about what they thought of Reagan and the US at the time. :hehe:

EDIT: So, wrong year and president. But, aside from that, I think my general sentiment still applies.

Finally caught the final 2 episodes. Which does a good job of reminding why I was happy RTD was leaving the first time.

The penultimate episode wasn't too bad. But the finale? What the **** happened. I have seen evidence of the reshoots, and it is damn clear that the finale was a damn mess. I can't wait for them to finally start talking, like Eccelsten, because the behind the scenes drama had to have been a mess.

There were some good parts, make no mistake. Ncuti and Jodie getting to trauma bond over their times as the Doctor is good. It was nice seeing Ruby in the action again.

Which leads me to what probably has turned me off of this finale the most. Just how screwed over Varada Sethu was. Literally not in one full episode of the season. And then this ****ing bizarre set up with Poppy. Okay, wants to save her. Fine. Just going to skip over all the weirdness of the writing of her essentially pursuing Conrad's little incel world view, despite nothing suggesting she was ready in her little screen time before hand. No, it was RTD trying to force that the Doctor and Belinda would automatically try to create this family unit. It was ****ing bizarre, against all interactions between the two. And someone clearly chickened out of making Poppy Susan's parent, because otherwise, why tease Susan's return, only for her to not show up in the finale, while RTD's other recent creations did.

Yeah, I've grown bored of RTD's new UNIT, so I doubt I am tuning into the spinoff.

Yea....Ncuti was talking about s3 a few months ago and bringing back susan seemed to be for more
