Doctor Who - "Am I a good thread?"

It's not really a phobia. It's a compulsive thing where you feel like you have to pull your own hair out. Some people have it really bad, where they snatch whole plugs of hair from their scalps and end up with bald spots.

I have it, but it usually manifests as me plucking out individual hairs that feel "wrong" or out of place to me. I also find myself pulling at my beard or arm hairs when I'm nervous.

This episode was a lot better than last weeks.

I can't say I have completely warmed to Capaldi's doctor yet which is odd because I'm a big fan of Capaldi and was looking forward to his Doctor. Perhaps I just need to see a few more episodes to get a better feel for his take.

Ben Wheatley and Edgar Wright acting regular Michael Smiley popping up was cool.

The fantastic voyage/innerspace plot was cool.

Doctor Who’s companion Jenna-Louise Coleman is set to leave the hit BBC show.

The actress, 28, is believed to be quitting her role as the Time Lord’s assistant in a sensational Christmas storyline.

Her exit could bring an end to her 18 months as Clara Oswald, creating a vacancy for another sidekick to star alongside new Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi.

Yesterday a source said: “The conversations about Jenna’s exit have started, and a plan is in place which is being ironed out.

“By the time she leaves she will be one of the longest-standing companions ever. She has been absolutely brilliant in the role, but everyone agrees it is a part that should change after a period.”

Great episode. I'm really starting to get more into Capaldi's Doctor. He definitely is compelling.

well that was a different way of presenting a Dalek story....

pretty good, and lots of food for thought, in terms of the story, the Doctor and our humanity in general (the ol' good vs bad debate).

thrilled seeing Danny Pink (History Boys alumni woot!) but once again i think theres something funky about the directing/ editing during those present day/ ordinary moments scenes; i thought the Coal Hill school stuff at the beginning were groan worthy-- ironic because it read so well on paper.

and then there's that question-- Is the Doctor a good man?

you know we all were led to believe he is a good guy for the most part-- i mean its Doctor Who, it wouldnt have run this long if the guy was despicable, but i do like how the DW team is turning that belief on its head and make us question-- how good of a man is he? or are we merely just focusing on his good side and turning a blind eye and a deaf ear on the bad? this is a very promising storyline for the future of the DW series for sure.

Good episode. I did prefer last weeks. I digging the coldness this Doctor shows and his peculiar attitude towards people.

I concur!

However, I'm kind of getting sick of Daleks calling The Doctor a "good Dalek"... it happens with almost every Doctor in NewWho! :funny:

"No. You are a good Dalek."

Dayum.

Yeah, Capaldi really clicked with me this episode.

Dalek side-eye!

While I can't say I cared for the call back to 9's being called 'a good Dalek' (that one was more effective imo as the Doctor was behaving like one there), I did like that 'parting shot' from this Dalek.

If the mutant inside had a proper mouth you could imagine it sneering at the Doctor there.

I'd like to see Rusty again. I imagine the resistance will start turning the war around with somebody who is able to supply them with all the info they could ever want.

I also appreciated this gave us some sense what the Daleks are up to. Since Victory of the Daleks we haven't gotten a sense of what they were doing on the galactic scene.

Solid, meaty episode! Love, love, loved it! Definitely starting to see what Capaldi's Doctor is bringing. And Christ, when the episode started and the Doctor was telling Blue to get over her brother I thought it was just "cutesy" snark and they were going to timey wimey their way to saving him... NOPE.

And then again with Dolorous Edd ("HE WAS DEAD ALREADY. I WAS JUST SAVING US!") ****, son! 12 doesn't give a ****! Me like!

"You would make a good Dalek" to 9

"You are a good Dalek" to 12.

So glad this show is back in our lives.

Dolorous Edd!!! :awesome:

*five seconds later*

Aaaaaaand now he's Dolorous Dead. :csad:

After thinking about it, I don't know if Twelve is a darker Doctor when it comes to people dying around him, or if he's simply more honest and likely to use gallows humor. Most incarnations of the Doctor have this nasty habit of acting outraged when an ally dies, but they still reap the benefits of their sacrifice. Twelve's "He was already dead" was harsh, but more honest. He knew there was nothing he could've done to prevent that soldier's death, and he didn't pretend otherwise. He accepted the death and moved on with the mission.

What this Doctor seems to lack, if you'll pardon the obvious analogy, is a bedside manner.

His willingness to accept someone's sacrifice has shades of Seven, and his teasing "insulting you to be your friend" relationship with Clara has shades of Six. Capaldi is a modern day interpretation of an 80's Doctor. He's not the manic (for lack of a better word) hyper-being that we've become accustomed to in New Who.

He's interesting, is what I'm saying.

In other news, I'm crushing on Danny and I will fight Clara for him.
