Doctor Who - The Regeneration Edition

Not being able to lie is not the same as choosing to forgo answering the question.
At least that is how I took it.

Definitely, he's not compelled to answer questions - he just can't lie if he chooses to.

Especially seeing as how the Time Lords want him to be able to give an all-clear signal, they really would want him to have agency in when he chooses to answer that question.

I thought it was a great goodbye and it was nice to see Amy again but the episode itself was a little messy.
August 2014.
This such bull**** btw. I can't believe it's going to be so long before the show returns :csad:

I hope for a costume reveal before filming.

It seemed like they blurted things out without even thinking though. Fun joke but I thought it would have some relevance. I mean, whats the point of having those two plots happening together and not at all combined?

So does this mean that there is a whole new cycle of 12 regenerations? The Doctor says something like, "the cycle is starting over" or "the cycle starts anew".

It is heavily implied that the Time Lords gave him a new cycle. Sure they may have only given him enough for one or two regenerations to get him out of the situation, but I doubt they will go that route.

He did say a new cycle, I guess he's got another 12 regenerations in him.

Part of me wanted to see what would happen if the Doctor attempted to regenerate without enough regenerative energy in him to go through a full regeneration. Presumably, that's how the Master ended up looking like Swamp Thing in "The Deadly Assassin" and "The Keeper of Traken."

The way he said it is he's been reborn in a literal sense with a new cycle of 12 regenerations, meaning 13 more Doctors and presumably another 50 years give or take before they have to figure out how to create his next regeneration cycle.

I hope Clara doesn't have a long 'This isn't the Doctor' stint. While I know that seeing him change is probably a system shock to anyone, I just want her to accept him and move on.

Clara has scant memories of briefly meeting every previous Doctor, plus she had a whole adventure alongside Ten and War. If anything, she should cope with the Doctor's regeneration better than any prior companion (except maybe the Brig).

I just got to watch it today, but my daughter was running around playing so didn't get my full attention. It was interesting with all the villians showing up and what not, but not totally clear on everything....will have to rewatch it later tonight by myself.

Okay so someone please explain this to me. The town is called Christmas and you can't lie there, it's like Liar Liar Town right? So why didn't someone ask The Doctor his name there? I thought that was going to be the plot and I was like "Oh wow how awesome is that? He's trapped someone where he can't not answer The Question. Brilliant." But it never happened. I cried twice however.

You aren't compelled to tell the truth/answer questions. You just aren't able to lie.

Hm, I see. Waste of potential. They blurted stuff out they didn't want to say, could have been a cool mexican stand off type scene with the question.

Yes exactly, I thought I heard that! I mean, is that not a big "WTF? Plothole?" moment?? I'm sitting there waiting for someone to ASK the question. Then the question came from the crack and I thought "oh its the crack, so it has no power here" but then no. It just never happened.

There were Silurian, Slitheen and Judoon ships in addition to the Papal Mainframe among the fleet, he's got no beef with any of those people.

Ok, I guess. I just remember him saying something about getting the same angry response from every ship so I thought he was jumping on enemy ships.

Admittedly this one is a bit wobbly. The closest thing that makes any sort of sense is he was following the signal source and the planet not being totally busted up threw him off.

Though I don't know if I'd say this is a major one, even if he had known it was Trenzalore at the start he'd still have gone down to the planet to investigate the Gallifreyan signal.

It's a major one to me. He avoided going to Lake Silencio for years cause he knew he didn't have to until he realized he did.

The planet was protected by the papal mainframe. If it's true that the cracks are just leftover scars, the Doctor knows they are everywhere. He could just have found another scar to reach Gallifrey.

Eh, I wasn't a fan of the episode. Coming off of one as strong as the 50th, I expected something amazing and was pretty well let down.

Why exactly did the Time Lords not come through, but decide to throw new regenerations to the Doctor? It made no sense to me.

It's even more odd since Moffat just had those two townspeople say it's even more effective the closer you are to the tower. The Doctor goes inside the tower and still doesn't answer.

I assumed that the Time Lords would've been capable of bringing themselves back through the crack if they wanted, but they were in the middle of a war the last time they saw the universe, and they were weary about coming back until the Doctor confirmed it by giving his real name (something only the Doctor and a few people on Gallifrey would know). They need the Doctor to eventually clear the way for them, so they're willing to send him some extra regenerations so he has time to get the job done.

I'm glad this episode confirmed that the Time Lords are aware and conscious while they're stuck in... wherever. I wasn't sure if they were frozen like a photo this whole time. Now that I know they could've been up to anything while they were gone, I like to think they spent all this time rebuilding their cities after reelecting 2-time former president Romana to office. And that Romana is played by Juliet Landau.

What is the Doctor going to do about this? The rest of the universe, especially the Daleks, seem deadset against the Time Lords returning. How is he going to mend fences when he's still blowing up ships every week?

Off-hand: I forget how I found it, but someone was mentioning on another site that the whole Doctor erasing his footprints was supposed to go somewhere based on some toy proposals that never went through.

Did you not notice the Daleks waiting for them on the other side?

Except this time he was receiving a signal from Gallifrey. Are you really arguing he would have ignored that?

And they were doing a bang-up job keeping aliens off the planet.

Isn't this something 12 is going to handle? I don't see how Manic can answer that question not having seasons 8 and on yet.
