Thanks for this. I just want to throw out that his performance in Jungle Fever is soo good and anyone who's a fan should check it out.

I love Bale, one of the greatest actors of his generation.

On that list I'd put the fighter at the top - his performance is unbelievable and complex. I notice you left out the mechanic - which had one of his most extreme transformations. He's amazing in American Hustle too.

Mechanic would be near the top if I was ranking performances, because it is great as you say. But I was ranking my favorite movies of his and... blasphemy though it may be, I never really liked The Mechanic. But yeah Batman would be lower and Mechanic would be near the top with American Psycho, The Fighter, and Vice then.

Hey man, maybe an honorable mention for his stand out performance in The Long Kiss Goodnight, he is PYP funny in that film and played a memorable character.

No mention of Hateful 8 or Jackie Brown, mind you SLJ is in soooooo many movies it's more like choose your top 20 !

Okay, my bad it totally was the Machinist !

And on that note I'm doing top 10 movies featuring JASON STATHAM !

1. Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,
Stath apparently used to sell "moody" gold on street corners for real ( so I heard)
images

2. Snatch showing us that there's more to Stath than just a tough guy. Hilarious.
images

3. Spy because his character is so funny he could have carried his own movie, and its total deadpan self parody.

4. The Transporter trilogy not the best action films ever, but good fun and with some entertaining and inventive fight scenes.

5. Crank , just the first one.

6. The Bank Job, a good film in it's own right.

7. The Expendables series, okay these movies are really dumb, but Stath holds his own with a bunch of 80s action legends.

8. The Mechanic , okay he's not Charles Bronson ( but who is?) but still fun.

9. Hobbs and Shaw again it was dumb but really funny, no one else can look as cool when giving the finger to the Rock.

Cate Blanchett (Again, this is not necessarily best performance but favorite movie)

Dude no Thor:Ragnarok ? She's so badass in that movie . Shes also amazing in the Aviator, as Katherine Hepburn - okay truth be told she's amazing in everything. Find a bad performance, I dare you ! That isn't to say shes always in great movies, but like Anthony Hopkins or Gary Oldman, shes always terrific.

She's fun in Thor, but I actually think she is on par with someone like Gary Oldman. It's just not until the last 5-10 years that women were getting as many juicy and complex roles in Hollywood as men. But she has an amazing range and versatility that stacks up with the best of them.

I'll try to stop flooding this with my picks, but I gotta do at least one classic from New Hollywood. So let that be... Robert De Niro.

Stardust

Sooner or later Bobby D had to show up - arguably the greatest American actor of the late 20th, early 21st century.

So many roles there that have become "iconic" ( and I hate the overuse of that word).

My favourite might be Stardust because DeNiro essentially self parodies, and really runs with it, something not every actor would do.

Denzel is another guy who it's tough to pick only 10 movies for. He's one of those guys who, even if he's in a crap film, he's always great.

I ‘d suggest the King of Cool himself, Steve McQueen

Lol. You’re right. I haven’t seen that movie in probably 10 years. For some reason in my mind I thought Charleton Heston was opposite McQueen in the movie. I remembered Fred Astaire though.

In light of our current world situation, I may need a disaster film marathon. Towering Inferno, Airport, Poseidon Adventure (cue the next post about Gene Hackman)

Yup, it was one of those 1970s star-studded disaster movies.

As promised: Gene Hackman:
