I read a Times review this wekeend of Casino Royale. Aparently the character portrayed by Craig is really good, however it changes quite a few of the dynamics of Bond that we've come to accept. Apparently if this was the first Bond ever, it would be better, but now it fights against all of the established elements of Bond, it might not.

I'm still saying it could be a good film, but isn't the gonna be 'Bond'.

What Bond are we talking about here? Because Bond of, say, The Spy Who Loved Me is vrey different to, say, From Russia With Love, yet both are considered classics.

I think people keep forgetting that this film is about Bond evolving into the character we are more familiar with. It is a fundimental concept of character growth and something that people honestly shouldn't be forgetting.

I think this film will work well, but I can't see craig playing the established bond very well, so after the prequel is done, I'm sceptical about the next move

I don't expect CR to do well. Despite the good reviews, I think Craig's look and lack of the smooth confidence and style we associate with Bond will harm its long term box office

I predict a 20 - 30 million dollar opening but a big drop in the second and subsequent weeks. I don't CR think will hit 100 million US domestic. Around 70 max if its lucky.

I think people want Bond to be Bond - not some Bourne rip-off.

once again fool of the took.. we have only seen fight scenes..nothing more..

but in the latest tv spot..he has charm when he asks.

"mind if i join you."

Bond is not ripping off Bourne. This film is based on flemming's 1st novel. This movie is also ditching the down right BS of the last 20 years and going back to its roots of classic movie making. On another note, may reputable reviews are saying Craig's performance is challenging Connery's as best 007. Imo Craig is no Connery but he's definately a better actor than Brosnan nd any otheractor to play Bond.

Looks like he gets a lot of tail in the movie, just saw a spot where it looks like he just gets laid. Alot.

I enjoyed his interview with Matt Lauer...he basically explained that it's a Rookie James Bond. Before all the esperience, before all the knowledge, before he becomes the legend.

I like the concept.

As do I but it seems people like sperfan are either ignoring or not understanding the concept of Bond evolving into the legend we're used to seeing.

It's influenced by it, heavily. Everyone knows that.
Only in the sense to go harder, I'd say, and perhaps upping the physicality of James Bond. Other than that, I'd say CASINO ROYALE doesn't bear much resemblance at all to a Bourne flick. It feels entirely Bondian.

Yeah its definately influenced but it is in no way ripping it off. I've already commented quite a few times that I'm thankful for shows like 24 and movies like the Bourne films because they have forced the Bond movies to considerably step up its game. If it were a case of sticking to the formula of the Last few Brosnan movies then we might as well kiss Bond good by.

No, really?

Well people here often forget that and forget that this story is an origin of sorts, so the obvious sometimes has to be spelled out.

I'm pretty sure
Cosino Royale the novel was pretty violent and stuff..
I know the genital torture scene was in the novel..

he's the first actual actor to portray bond. connery usually plays the same character in every movie. that accent works against him as an actor -- not as an icon.
