It's hard to believe that after everything Nolan has accomplished this film is now quite the underdog. There was an untold confidence about The Dark Knight during production, a feeling that something special was about to happen - and how. Nothing at all to do with my expectations for TDKR but that feeling isn't there at the moment, for a number of reasons beyond anyone's control. It's a nervous, anxious energy - mostly from coming on here
I have up-most faith in Nolan - why wouldn't I? The guy has never made anything below a very good film. Folk point to Insomnia as his 'worst' but it's a piece of work that has aged remarkably well, it looks fantastic and I dare say it might go down as the final film in which Al Pacino actually gave a concerted effort to conjure the old magic.
My expectations are what they always are for a Nolan film. It will be well made, engaging, aesthetically beautiful, unique and well acted. All the complaints, all the nit picking, all the arguments, to me, simply boil down to whether it will be good, or f£$king GREAT! Ask yourself if there is anyone else you want in charge of this? Is there anyone else who would be allowed to follow his own vision so freely from a studios greedy, tinkering claws?
Nolan has already given us the tastiest damn cake I've ever eaten, he's just got to put the cherry on top. It will be dark, deep, gritty, disturbing and above all else BRAVE! This ain't Pirates Of The Caribbean, it's Chris F'in Nolan's Batman. Yes we nitpick and argue over (stupid) things, because we love it, because we care and because we know that greatness could be rising on the horizon....... if they can only get the bloody ears right.
Nolan hasn't made a movie I didn't enjoy. I seriously doubt TDKR will be his first bomb.
Didn't Gary oldman say when he got the script he read it and got chills? I think he said that it's on par with TDK if not better. (also oldman was the one whonpredicted heaths Oscar win. He knows his stuff). So I believe in Gary oldman![]()
Bale also said the movie is about bruce Wayne finding himself and his journey into becoming the best person and the best batman he can be. I believe in Christian bale![]()
I've seen nothing to get me excited. Considering that I don't really like TDK, I'm not optimistic that I'll enjoy TDKR.
Things that bum me out:
-Bane's look/voice
-No new Batsuit
-No new Batmobile
-Catwoman's look/rumoured back story
-More brightly lit scenes in a
Batman film
-Unnecessary retread of the League (unless Ra's actually returns, which I doubt).
Nolan suffers from Burtonitis. Batman Begins was a great BATMAN film, but TDK was more
of a NOLAN film (in the same way Returns was more of a Burton film). I suspect TDKR will be much
the same. I hope that I'm wrong.
Yeah. Except no. Nolan doesn't seem to be suffering from anything. Last I checked tdk had an actor win an Oscar and was critically acclaimed. If that's "nolanitis" than hopefully he catches another bad case of it for tdkr.
with all this negativity toward this movie (banes voice, catwomen's suit, the lobster claw, and talks of a earthquake machine) i'm getting a little nervous. a lot of the people on this forum are bringing me down lol

I've changed my expectations since then. I won't go into why, but I actually really like Bane's voice, now that I started looking at it from a more creative/artistic perspective. After everything we've seen/heard so far, how do you "feel" this movie is going to be in terms of quality?
For me, (assuming what we heard will be Bane's voice throughout the whole movie), I'm expecting an amazing story, but with a major flaw that will hold it back from being of the same near-masterpiece quality of TDK. This is just my expectations, maybe Hardy might make his Bane work, but if I just had to make a guess, I'd say we won't get as terrifying of a character like Heath's Joker.
Either way, it's the story and characterization that really matters to me, I won't let a bad performance ruin the film. (if it is a bad one that is)

I agree with everything except Batman's new vehicle. I know it's not an actual "Batmobile", but I do like the looks of it. And I also agree with you about BB and TDK. I really love BB, but wasn't that big of a fan of TDK.I've seen nothing to get me excited. Considering that I don't really like TDK, I'm not optimistic that I'll enjoy TDKR.
