There are money shots. It's pouring with money shots. But the shots are so thin, it evaporates before it lands. Something like the last Jedi on the other hand is rather thrifty with money shots, but they are thick and they stick.

People don't look like they've donated three quarters of their blood in the reality I live in.

Great post

The cyborg gif looks like someone put an unnatural filter over it. Here's a comparison :

But I have to say, my favourite Cyborg shot is this one :

Jesus Christ.

The shot with the fire does make me think of video games, but more like games like Borderlands which have a deliberate cartoonish look. Which would be a pretty radical approach to movie visuals in general, but since that's not the movie's look...I mean, I have to assume that's not finished yet. I don't see how they can possibly leave it in the movie like that.

I've a feeling when the DCEU is looked back upon, there's going to be a lot of similarities between Zack's trilogy and Lucas' prequels; a rocky start to a (hopefully) brighter and more successful series of films.

With all that greenscreen and CGI, they're even starting to look alike.

He has his moments. But like someone else said on this board once, it's like he hasn't discovered daylight.

Snyder's fire effects have always been bad.

Jesus, I still can't believe how bad Cyborg looks in those gifs. More so the fact they decided to use those shots in the teaser to promote the movie.:funny:

I have no idea why they didn't try to do it practically with CG enhancements. Full CGI is just so bloody lazy. Unless the effects vastly improve to Planet Of The Apes standards, every time Cyborg appears will really take the audience out of the movie.

It's visually average, the fight is trash for different reasons.

Full CGI is just so bloody lazy.

Why is it lazy? As far as I understand, vfx work is among the most taxing and takes the most manhours. 100s of people are working day and night in the vfx dept making every detail right.

There are a lot of decisions that go into whether something should be practical/cgi. full body cgi has worked brilliantly before...like Iron Man, Zod's armour, Dr Manhattan etc. Criticise the Cyborg vfx, I understand. Its still unfinished work, but okay. But calling it "lazy"? I dont get it.

I'd have to say the visuals in GL (haven't seen the newer F4) were well below average, like basically everything else about it.

It's not the man power that's lazy, it's when it becomes a crutch that's an issue. Doing things practically requires more preparation, planning and engineering. CGI requires that to but not the extent and gives you a lot of easier outs than having to film on location or in a set. There's two problems with CGI though, one is it looks more artificial, and two, directors can tinker with the shot to death to get it looking right. The best CGI is when it blends into its environments.

I dont think its a crutch. Its just a tool. Used a lot by most of these big budgeted movies.

I don't remember who of VFX guys said it in an interview, but he said that CGI became an easy way out and doesn't require as much inventiveness as practical effects. Directors and VFX companies became lazy and often use it in the most blunt way imaginable.

I don't hold anything against CGI. CGI is the reason we have so much goodness these days. Hulk, for example. But you still need to make smart decisions to make CGI work. Otherwise you will get Aquaman on Batmobile or Cyborg in Justice League.

It's a tool if it's used right, it's a crutch if every decision you make is based on the assumption it will be fixed in post production with CGI.

Fixed? Whats there to fix in a full mocap suit? You design everything from the ground up.q
