Also DC needs to cast Eiza Gonzalez as one of their main females already. Whether it’s Hawkgirl, Zatanna, Jessica Cruz or even Poison Ivy.... doesn’t matter!

'Promising Young Woman' Podcast Interview Fennell, Robbie and McNamara - Variety

It was recently announced that Fennell would be writing “Zatanna” for the DCEU. The character, which is a similar version to Marvel’s Scarlet Witch, has yet to announce a director, which many are speculating if she will take the reigns for the film. We asked if she was interested in that job, answering, “It’s so exciting. That’s not a conversation that’s happened at all, so I have no insight, and also, we’re still in the early days. It’s something that we’ve been working on for a while. I’ve been speaking to Bad Robot [Productions], who are amazing. You want to get the first bit right, which is the script, before you think of anything else. It’s a very specific thing – the world of superhero movies is incredibly exciting, but it’s also a new different challenge. The main thing for me is making sure that it’s really, really good. I’m such a genre fan. I’m a fan of witchcraft, magic, and comic books, and this is scary and intense.”

I don't really know the Zatanna character all that well, and I'm not sure of the age range they're going for, i.e. a rookie, or someone who's been around awhile.

In terms of what I see when I think of about a potential Zatanna, I see a young Jaclyn Smith type as Zatanna in terms of class, charm, spunk, humor, and toughness. But again, I don't know the character all that well beyond some of her appearances in animation.


But the film is being made now as opposed to 1975, so I don't have a pick in particular for Zatanna of the 2020s.

She used to dress more in bikinis or leather jackets etc. By about the end of season 2 and definitely by season 3 though she had become more sensible and boring and had evolved pretty much into what she became for the next few decades as this TV mini series queen playing basically the same kind of roles all the time.

Kate Jackson was always the more sensible and practical one in Charlie's Angels. However, by Season 3 when she had left, Jaclyn Smith had started to occupy that role more.

So really only early Jaclyn Smith would've worked as Zatanna because she had become too sensible for that by the later seasons. I don't really feel Kate Jackson would've worked in the role either for precisely those reasons.
