DC Animation ‘Batman: Caped Crusader’: Animated Series From Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves Greenlit

Interesting tidbit from the IGN article that WB did in fact ask for a B:TAS revival from Timm but he wasn't interested.

I half admire his restraint and also a little sad that we lost out on what could have been one more season with Conroy and co.
I think he made the right choice, as much as I would have gone nuts over it.

I think this show allows Bruce to bring something fresh with no restraints while also still having some of that TAS DNA in there.

This looks sooo good. I’m really loving the atmosphere and character designs. I’m only slightly annoyed that Harvey’s scars are on the wrong side, but other than that, I’m definitely going to enjoy watching this.

So I read the Bruce Timm article on IGN about this and two things gives me pause about this show.

One being the fact that Barbara Gordon is an adult in this, so there's a good chance he might try that ungodly Bruce/Babs thing again; the other is the whole 'Batman is the real person/Bruce is the mask' idea which has been done to death and warped.

But we'll see how it does.

Lily, I appreciate you not posting a pic from that movie that shall not be named. :o

A part of hopes that Bruce Timm doesn't fall down that hole again, but I would also not be surprised if he pushes that godforsaken ship again.

To think, I prayed to see that movie and then we got... that. :vomit:

I hope he does it out of spite because discourse around Timm has been very annoying since TKJ because of it.

Its a great time to be a DC fan. Have been lowkey following the production of this with baited breath but honestly this looks fantastic. Hamish's voice sounds great here and the animation looks clean af. Intrigued by the low opinions of harvey's two face design hopefully the naysayers will come around but i can understand why.

P.S Is the original series still on prime ? When i was browsing Netflix it was on there aswell but only limited seasons (UK viewers)

Because Timm gave into his sick urges and ruined TKJ with that dreadful prologue that nobody asked for.

He has no one to blame but himself. :o
Perhaps but the discourse surrounding that has been annoying and condescending enough I now want all those people that have been trying to undermine all the contributions to the Batman mythos to be miserable

For me, it's simply because Harvey's burnt side is astonishingly bland looking and not visually distinct whatsoever. Looks more like he's deformed as well.

Batman animated cartoons

The Adventures of Batman (with Robin: The Boy Wonder) Season 1 [17 episodes] 1968-1969
The New Adventures of Batman Season 1 [16 episodes] 1977
Batman: The Animated Series Season 1-4 [109 episodes] 1992-1999
Batman Beyond Season 1-3 [52 episodes] 1999-2001
The Batman Season 1-5 [65 episodes] 2004-2008
Batman: The Brave and The Bold Season 1-3 [65 episodes] 2008-2011
Beware The Batman Season 1 [26 episodes] 2013-2014

We’ll see where the Caped Crusader goes on the pecking order duration of episodes it will ultimately get by the time it’s done. I doubt it will dethrone Btas.

What do you think Alfred gulping down the smoke monster is all about?

I love Gentleman Ghost. Is he confirmed for the series?

Look, Claremont has had a bigger effect on the X mythos than Timm did on Batman mythos. But, we can easily acknowledge just how much of his kinks made it into his books.

As for the trailer, it leaves me cold. For all the talk about the animation, there is way too many issues. That shot of Batman chasing Catwoman is rough. There is something lacking in the animation of action that I do not like. And to be frank, for the style to essentially be TAS is boring. The designs are fine, and the attempt to recreate how the old style animation did backgrounds is commendable, but is boring. And it lacks even TAS's color. And I continue to have no interest in Timm's work without Standards and Practices to reign him in.

The problem is that this is not how people, especially the obnoxious childish Twitter crowd that I vehemently despise, frame it. They undermine basically all the work he ever did on Batman, reduce it to "oh he just did the art that's it" (as if that's a small thing, I might add) and constantly try to act as if he never had good ideas, never contributed anything beyond that, or try to act like he's a borderline sex pest.

The work to make the DCAU into what it is, and BTAS what it was, was undoubtedly the work of a lot of people, but there's a very very good reason why whenever Conroy got asked as to what made that take on Batman land so well he always singled out Bruce Timm as the main reason. And if Batman himself, who was there since the beginning and through it all, said that, I do think that accounts for more credit than what those people try to give him purely because he made a story decision once they didn't like or because he's a horny cartoonist.

Also Barbara is literally starting off as appareantly some sort of cop on this so... if she and Batman get together on the show (which I don't think they will based on how cold this Batman is described to be) so what? What'd even be there to complain about in this instance? She's not Batgirl, she's already a working adult by the time Batman begins his crusade, there's no Dick Grayson Robin she shares a history with.

Still hate that this is going to be a binge-release.

That model really needs to be a thing of the past.

It might work in their favor. Especially if the show is good. Invincible hasn’t had a problem with the binge formula.
