🤛 Official UFC Thread - Part 8

Cub Swanson is ranked in the top 5 and he's on a four-fight winning streak. he has one of the best records at featherweight in the UFC.

So what if he already lost to Holloway? Bisping got submitted by Luke Rockhold when he was granted a title shot to face him. Rockhold was supposed to rematch Weidman for that fight after Weidman got destroyed by Rockhold as well.

Who has Cub beat to deserve a shot?

Who has Cub beat to deserve a shot?

He derailed the hype train for Dooho Choi, who is ranked No. 12 right now. He's only lost to current champion Holloway, former champion Edgar, and former title contender Ricardo Lamas.

So the answer is, no one.

Who has Frankie Edgar beaten to deserve a title shot Darth? Yair Rodriguez and perennial journeyman Jeremy Stephens. In other words, no one :D

Since moving down to 145 Edgar has beat:

Oliveira
Penn
Swanson
Faber
Mendes
Stephens
Rodriguez

Only lost to Jose. On the other hand, Swanson has lost to both men who were scheduled to fight, and finished by both. It should be Lamas or Aldo.

OK if we are going overall, Swanson has beaten Oliveira too! He's also beaten Dustin Poirier, who is ranked top 10 in a higher weight class now. He's also beaten Stephens who is on your list, and Dennis Siver.

So just saying, Swanson also has wins over two of the guys on your list. Plus he's beaten a current top 10 UFC lightweight as well.

That isn't my list, that is Edgar's record. Cub has lost to multiple people, and Edgar was LW champion. :funny:

Who is Mike Goldberg's replacement!

Holloway/Aldo 2 now on. As it should be.
Blah. Aldo got knocked out. I will say this, he has no right to complain about anything anymore.

EDIT:

Michael Bisping fighting Kelvin Gastelum in Shanghai three weeks after his loss to GSP is the height of absurdity.

I see you 2 having a little back & forth on the matter, I agree & disagree with both of you.

I don't think Aldo is currently deserving of a title shot, he was smoked by McGregor to lose the title, then smoked by Holloway himself in June in the unification(?) bout with his only win being a lacklustre one over Frankie at UFC 200 in between those 2 definitive loses.

Cub Swanson is also not deserving either IMO, 4 fight win streak & a tough dude, but I'm not really impressed with the lineup of people he has beat despite having a few entertaining fights in there.

You could have also thrown Ricardo Lamas's name into the mix as well, but in reality outside of Edgar it's a coinflip to determine who is 'worthy'. If I was the UFC matchmaker, I'd have went with Lamas if he was game.

People can say what they want about Bisping, but in my opinion he's part of what feels like a dying breed of mixed martial artists in terms of his mentality.

I feel like Frankie is deserving. But if we are going to need a replacement I will take the former champ or Lamas over Cub. Easily.

I do agree that Aldo didn't earn this rematch, but guess they had to put something on.

Since when do champions have to earn rematches?

There's no set rule for automatic rematches for champions.

When a champion is definitively & soundly beaten by the challenger, they should have to earn their way back up to fight for a title again, particularly if the division is stacked with credible challengers on hot streaks IMO.

There are a few exceptions to that non-existent rule, the situation between Holloway & Aldo being one of them as he's stepping in as a replacement on 4-5 weeks notice.
