I would be inclined to agree, there aren't enough good HW's to cut that division in half. Combining UFC & Bellator there are maybe 10 notable actual HW's with maybe only around 5 of them being legitimate contenders.

Although if they did do that, you might get some of the bigger LHW's being more willing to fight at HW or 235lbs if they knew they wouldn't have to face 265lb+ monsters.

I agree it isn't always an advantage, the sweet spot seems to be 240lbs - 250lbs, but there's no denying if you're a someone that can make LHW so presumably 220lbs or so walking around, it would be a daunting prospect to have to give up potentially 45lbs to someone.

Just looking at the active UFC Heavyweights list there are actually several of them listed at being 265lbs, now they all aren't current 'UFC ranked' top 5, but in a division so thin 1 or 2 wins can catapult you to the top, just look at Ngannou.

To be brutally honest, I've very little interest in the Nunes/Pennington fight on the UFC 224 card, Nunes didn't look good against Shevchenko & Pennington has bored me the last 2 times I've saw her fight, 1 of which was against Miesha Tate.

I've a lot more interest in other fights on the card like Vitor/Lyoto, Souza/Gastelum & even Mackenzie Dern vs Amanda Cooper.

Conor McGregor is despicable, disgusting and pathetic. If he doesn't respond and apologize and act humble or contrite in anyway, then ban him from the sport. Not just MMA, but all of combat sports.

It's disgusting he got away with his Bellator MMA meltdown, and he should not be allowed to get away with this.

His actions caused Michael Chiesa to lose his fight with Anthony Pettis. His bus attack likely pulled Ray Borg and Brandon Moreno from UFC 223 as well.

Conor McGregor is a coward, and he's a hooligan. This was blatant hooliganism.

There's already a dialogue in the media excusing what he did because it was in "retaliation" to Khabib confronting Artem Lobov and ganging up on him.

I don't think what Khabib did was OK, but it's still not an excuse for what Conor did. Khabib should not have been allowed to get up close to Lobov and touch him. Intimidate him maybe, but they should've been kept separated. That still doesn't excuse what Conor McGregor did here.

Its a situation where Conor had no intentions of confronting Khabib. It was classic hold me back, while doing legitimately criminal crap.

Apparently the one he went after didn't even have Khabib in it. Three fights are now off:

- Lobov vs. Caceres
- Chiesa vs. Pettis
- Borg vs. Moreno

And that's just so far.

McGregor's fans should be ashamed and embarrassed right now.

Honestly, I was surprised people were sure Chiesa could still fight tomorrow. No commission should let him fight after getting cuts and lacerations like that.

The Swedish Athletic Commission pulled Alexander Gustafsson from a fight after he got a cut two weeks before his fight with Mousasi. And that cut was basically healed by the time the fight happened.

I hope Rose Namajunas is doing OK.

To all the people downplaying this, let's see how you feel when a crazy Irishman attacks a vehicle you're in and glasses if flying everywhere and people are getting hurt. I doubt you'd be like "No big deal."

Reed Harris, former WEC owner who now works for UFC, said Chiesa was gushing blood. I mean that's glass. Not play around stunt candy glass. The video footage shows that Chiesa was right next to the window Conor trashed with the dolly cart.

“If (McGregor won’t come in), there’s an official way to go about it,” Sheppard said. “Once a report is made and charges are filed, now it’s not we’re looking to speak to you – we’re coming to speak to you. A warrant would be issued for your arrest. We’re nowhere near something like that right now.”

White predicted McGregor will turn himself to police if he isn’t detained first.

“You can imagine he’s going to be sued beyond belief, and this was a real bad career move for him,” the UFC exec said.

Sheppard said from his understanding of the events that took place, McGregor’s actions represent misdemeanor assault, which carries a maximum jail term of between three months and one year.

“However, I don’t know the full status of what the person is saying in regards to their injuries,” he said. “If their injuries include a disfigurement from the glass where they’re going to be scarred for life, that would be a felony.”

I guess no warrant until charges and complaint are filed.

UFC fighter Conor McGregor is in custody following an incident earlier Thursday in Brooklyn, according to the New York City Police Department.

McGregor, 29, unexpectedly showed up at a UFC 223 media event Thursday at Barclays Center, and was caught on camera throwing a hand dolly through the window of a bus that was carrying UFC fighters.

McGregor was being processed and no charges had been filed as of Thursday night.

I doubt he serves heavy jail time. But there is hope that the real victims in all of this will sue him into oblivion. He could be facing civil lawsuits from this for years.
