šŸ¤› Official UFC Thread - Part 8

Cheers I think I understand I read up a little on it more, I don't get why everything isn't just uniformal, wasn't that the purpose of USADA handling these tests? As outside of the various athletic commissions tests being nowhere near as strict, they all differ & have different policies/thresholds in regards to drug testing & acceptable levels of certain substances.

According to that, Jones hasn't failed a test but his most recent tests have shown the presence of a long-term metabolite from whatever was in his system prior & he'll get no performance-enhancing benefits from what remains, which I gather is the reason why the fight is allowed to go ahead. The amount is apparently so small, it would have been literally impossible for him to have retaken something during the window of his tests & have it show up so small & also not test positive for the short-term metabolite. I'll let the scientists do the science, if they say someones passed or failed a test, I'll take them at their word.. I'd trust USADA more than I'd trust some of the athletic commissions drug testing programmes.

What I don't get, if this is the case, if it's so small & he's getting no performance enhancing benefits, why even mention it at all?

You really shouldn't. AC's might be incompetent, but USADA literally works for the UFC here and the UFC can decide to ignore their findings. They had to announce it because he tested positive for a banned substance, in an amount similar to what got him and others suspended and he wasn't going to get a license to fight in Nevada because of it. So they had to move the event, and when people asked, they were going to have to admit it. This is why they are trying to "explain" it away from the start. The issue is, it is looking more and more like they are making an excuse.

Here is Frank Mir talking about this situation:

Frank Mir

In the spring of 2016, when USADA representatives sat in my Las Vegas kitchen and told me that the turinabol metabolite that they said I tested positive for could only have been ingested within a window of the past several months, I vehemently proclaimed my innocence. Having never failed any drug test throughout my career, I asked if we could go back further in the past to test any supplements that I could’ve taken, but they claimed that was both impossible and unnecessary. They were firm on their assertion that there was only a recent period of several months that would warrant any consideration. Now, little more than two years later, Jon Jones has tested positive for the same trace of the same banned substance, and USADA is taking the position that this same low level is in fact not a new ingestion, but something that could be the result of a residual ā€œpulsingā€ effect that could potentially stay in his system ā€œforeverā€. Further, they are now claiming that this phenomenon is something that they are seeing in other cases as well.

This latest shift in USADA’s position would seem to suggest one of two possibilities…Either they are a) offering special dispensation to Jon Jones or b) they are second guessing and subsequently ā€œrevisingā€ the presentation of their own science. Either scenario leaves myself and a number of other fighters whose careers have been similarly damaged by past testing claims to wonder what this says about USADA’s consistency and their tests’ reliability. Sadly, my accusation came at a time when the UFC’s partnership with USADA had not yet been subjected to the kind of doubt that now seems to further cloud it with each new instance of convoluted circumstances.

So what has changed exactly? More over, we know Jones tested positive. The amount is insignificant, as anything they'd test for would be diluted, as Jones would be trying to hide it. Which is exactly why this whole thing comes off very shady.

After that whole Russian Olympics doping scandal I heard about on the news a while back, I guess anything is possible, I'd like to think though that USADA is all above board. It isn't strictly true though that USADA works for the UFC, the only example I can think of at this early hour is it's like when you pay to do your driving test, the examiner doesn't actually work for you even though you've paid him, he/she is there to give an impartial ruling during your test to see if you're fit to drive in the same way that USADA is there to see if you're competing on a level playing field.

If USADA & the UFC were/are in cahoots, I don't get why they'd start here & now, with this event. How many fights & cards have been decimated by USADA violations since their hiring, no doubt costing the UFC tens of millions I'm sure by now in lost revenue in addition to whatever it costs them to run the tests.

Science. If that happened Mir in 2016, we're 2 nearly 3 years removed, that's a long time when it comes to drug testing.

Here is the issue. According to their own guidelines, this should have been a positive test and Jones shouldn't be allowed to fight. He shouldn't be allowed to fight until it is completely out of his system. They are letting someone fight who they know has performance enhancing drugs in his system. Even if they thought it is what they are saying they think it is, and there is no written scientific paper on this specific drug lasting in someone's system for 17-18 months, they are changing their own rules for this. And to make this all happen, Dana moved an entire PPV, screwing every other fighter on the card out of money (the state tax situation).

As to USADA and the UFC. Well it is amazing how they have treated Jon Jones in general. The UFC is not in a good place right now, with only one legit draw. And he seemingly seems fine with fighting once as year. They are well pass the boom period, where the UFC was selling itself.

Had Lioness and Jones only two I won besides Corey"Beastin 366 25/8" Anderson I still call him that haha.

They always underestimate Nunes, media needs to recognize her greatness. She should take my user name.

Amazing card. Started off hot with that rolling Heel lock on BJ in the pre-lims and got better from there. Really impressed with Chiesa. Probably the best women’s fight ever, I was screaming in my seat. Then Jon...the GOAT. His fight IQ is just off the charts. Executed his adjustments perfectly and controlled the distance, completely nullifying all offense from Gus. Then just patiently chopped him down til he couldn’t defend the takedown. Brilliant performance.

From what I gather, these were positive tests as any trace of what was discovered is usually a violation.. however USADA & whatever experts they've consulted seem satisfied that the amount they've found present would be granting him no performance enhancing benefit, also would have been impossible for him to have dosed & re-taken in between all his other tests because it was such a minute amount. I think I remember reading after his DC fight test failure that even taking whatever it is you take to dilute & try to hide the fact that you've taken that stuff is easily detectable also so I surmise if he had been dumb enough to take it again, then try to hide it, it would have shown up & just been an outright failure.

It would also indicate that USADA & the Athletic Commissions, were content that his previous ingestion of the drug were accidental.. hence why he got a retrospective ban of 15 months as opposed to 4 years. One thing is for sure, if he did cheat, it will come out, those Russians that got banned & stripped of their Olympic medals were retrospective as far back as 2012. USADA don't **** around either according to Sonnen, I've seen him do interviews talking about them & he says they do not like athletes saying their tests don't work or trying to con their science.. he also told a story of how Jones allegedly hit under an Octagon for several hours when USADA arrived at his gym to test him when they first came onto the scene with the UFC to avoid being tested but that's another story/rumour altogether.

Amanda Nunes is officially WMMA GOAT.

Cyborg.
Ronda.
Miesha.
Shevchenko.
GDR.

Jon Jones is a savage, he's the greatest LHW of all time bar none & he's unquestionably top 3 greatest fighters of all time if not the greatest. It's such a shame he's damaged his own reputation through his own stupidity & debatably some bad luck, because his fight IQ is literally right at the top with the likes of GSP.

Amanda Nunes as well, she's now beat the other widely considered 'Top 2' women fighters in Rousey & Cyborg in less than a minute not to mention beating the likes of Tate & Shevchenko.. so yeah, she's pretty much the greatest female fighter ever at this point with her ever growing MMA CV. They should & probably will give Cyborg a rematch in the same way, although it wasn't a rematch, they gave Rousey an immediate title shot despite a bad lose simply because of how many people they'd both ran through while champion.

Yeah, Nunes GOAT status is solidified at this point. Never thought I’d see Cyborg beat like that.

I didn't want BJ going out like that, Hall is no joke I didn't know much about him. I just heard how good his BJJ is and that is the only way he can win, it was.

Jon and DC should only happen at heavyweight, we know what happens at 205.

It makes me sad watching BJ Penn getting beat, especially by some guys he'd have obliterated in his prime.

A lot of fans who are relatively new to the sport that came with the McGregor, Rousey & even Lesnar fan waves in the last 10 or so years give or take, don't understand how good BJ Penn was & only ever see him getting pasted. Not that losing to Hall is embarrassing because from what I've read on him his grappling is elite, I mean BJ Penn's a black belt & his grappling should be considered high level, but Hall's is world class

It's like when Gunnar Nelson fought Damian Maia, Gunnar's grappling is high level & he often makes people look like fools on the ground, but Maia's is world class.

I will never forget Penn and Matt Hughes

I hope BJ finally retires its sad watching a former multiple weight world champion who is a shell of his former self continue to get beat again and again and again.

Dana needs to step in like he did for Chuck.

Also rumour is UFC is targeting Till vs. Covington for the London card.

Good to see that sorry piece of trash, Greg Hardy got a DQ.

Good to see that sorry piece of trash, Greg Hardy got a DQ.

Dana said he is giving him another fight. So I don't think you will have seen the last of him yet.

Need to feed him to Black Beast.

Just be like "Cool you like hitting women, here's Derrick Lewis the number two Heavyweight in the world who grew up in a home where domestic violence was prevalent, enjoy that!"

Anderson Silva vs Israel Adesanya about to start

giphy.gif

I'm glad that literally went down the way it did, glad Adesanya won, glad to see some vintage Silva & all in all I'm glad it a competitive fight as opposed to one of them getting sparked out. I'm amazed that Silva managed to actually go in & be able to compete with someone that's cut from a similar cloth as him just near 15 years younger. I thought he'd be at a distinct disadvantage speed wise but it seems Silva has more in the tank than I gave him credit for.

Usman ends Woodley's reign of terror, he's not exactly anymore enthralling to watch at times but he's a lot more aggressive in his fights & always brings it. He imposed his will on Woodley ragdolling him, judges had it 50-44, 50-44 & 50-45, those were quite kind to Woodley IMO considering how dominant Usman was.

Take a look at this - Woodley vs Usman - Media Scores

As for Jones, dominant win, never in any real doubt. Anthony Smith deserves massive credit, took an illegal knee when Jones was pouring it on & he could have told the referee he was unfit to continue, Jones would have been DQ'd & Smith would be the champion. He instead told the referee he was fine to continue & in the post-fight interview summed up his character that he wanted to win the title, not steal it. Dude deserves massive credit not only that but the heart he showed in there.

I do these usually after every big UFC card so thought I would share it here for a change.

Well after another big UFC PPV done its time for another What's Next for the winner's and losers!

Winner's

Jon Jones
Another all round dominating performance. Jones came out and showed that Smith is nowhere near Jon's level and won every second of the fight. If there is any criticisms to Jones its only that it looked at few different times in the fight he could have gotten the finish if he had been more aggressive in pursuit of it. It wouldn't be a Jones fight without controversy and he kept that up with the illegal knee in round 4. Jones again apparently wants to make another quick turn around defending his title. In terms of who is next opponent will be with his own LHW body of work speaking for itself, a more convincing finish of Anthony Smith, and now an endorsement from Dana White himself it looks set to be Thiago Santos.
Next Opponent Option: Thiago Santos

Kamaru Usman
The biggest winner of the night by far! Usman goes from a relatively well known contender to the champion of the division handing former champion Woodley the most one sided beating of his career in a fight where he won every single second. Some of the stats from that fight are incredible like the fact that Usman controlled Woodley for 17:51 of total control time (around 70 percent of the entire fight) and the fact that he out struck Woodley 141 to 34 (that's a rate of over 4 to 1). Usman goes from someone who in the build up to this fight I couldn't see anywhere where he would be better than Woodley where as now im not sure who I think can beat him. Colby looks set to be next in line according to Dana & with a rivalry already building between the two it makes sense.
Next Opponent: Colby Covington

Ben Askren
Well that was somewhat anti-climactic. After months and months of build-up and anticipation waiting to see supposedly the best Welterweight not in the UFC finally making his debut we were left with a very unsatisfying finish. Askren has proved he's tough for sure that initial barrage from Lawler would have put a lot of guys away but if he would have beaten Robbie is an entirely different question. Herb Dean chit the bed on this one and ruined what was a really exciting fight up until that point. I know Ben says he doesn't want to run it back but with Lawler wanting it and White himself stating that's what they want to do I would guess that a rematch is what's next for them both.
Next Opponent: Robbie Lawler Rematch

Weili Zhang
Zhang picked up what is without a doubt the biggest win of he career this weekend with a win over Torres who's only losses up until now were against champion or top 3 level competition. Zhang looks to be China's biggest hope for a title contender yet so Dana will likely want to give her a big fight to prove herself and try and draw in new fans because if Zhang can draw in just even 1% of the Chinese population it would be a very noticeable boost in fans. She's now 3-0 in the UFC and riding a 18 fight win streak I see no reason why to give her a big test. Currently the only high ranked women not also booked for a fight is Claudia Gadelha who having lost two her last three might also fancy a match with Zhang to try and get back in the win column.
Next Opponent: Claudia Gadelha

Pedro Munhoz
Other than Usman you could argue that Munhoz was the night's biggest winner. Picking up the biggest win of his career by far and taking part in easily one of the most exciting rounds of the year so far. This means Pedro has now won 7 of his last 8 with 5 of those being by finish. Unfortunately for him there is a bit of traffic jam at Bantamweight with Dillashaw & Cejudo either going to rematch again at 125 or 135 and Moraes clearly being the number one contender. So he's going to need one more win while things in the division sort themselves out and I can think of no better guy to pair him with that Aljamain Sterling as both are riding 3 fight win streaks, he's currently not booked to fight anyone either and both are now top 5 guys.
Next Opponent: Aljamain Sterling

Loser's

Anthony Smith
Anthony Smith seems to have unfortunately been caught up in the moment while fighting Jon Jones. Being out-struck nearly 4 to 1 he looked at times like a deer caught in the headlights. There was no time during the fight where he looked to worry Jones and his only chance he had at victory was an illegal knee in round 4 where he could have copped out. Smith shouldn't be too disheartened as he was fighting the best in the world and can take some solace in the fact he lasted longer than Gustafsson or Cormier did in their last fight with Jones. Smith's still new to LHW so he could make it back to another title shot but not anytime soon. A showdown with Corey Anderson would be good for both as Anderson is looking to add some bigger names to his 3 fight win streak and if Smith can break it he's just one or two away from contention again.
Next Opponent: Corey Anderson

Tyron Woodley
Well if I have Usman ranked as the biggest winner of the night then by default Woodley has to go down as the biggest loser. What was most shocking about this fight was just how little Woodley did, only landing 34 strikes the entire fight (that's around 7 strikes a round) and being controlled on bottom for so long while in many cases looking to hold Usman rather than try and escape. Especially when you think of how soundly he has defeated specialists in the past. Woodley has stated he wants a rematch but due to his very public rocky relationship with Dana White & the very sound beating he took where he lost pretty much every minute of that last fight I very much doubt you see that happen. Woodley is actually in a difficult spot for an opponent having fought the majority of the top half of the division. Maybe its just because Dana mentioned him multiple times but I think a fight you could easily see is Woodley vs. RDA. Both ex champs and both last loss to Usman.
Next Opponent: Rafael Dos Anjos

Robbie Lawler
A very unlucky night for Robbie after inside the first two minutes bloodying Askren's face to a pulp and picking him up and slamming him on his head his night was cut short after a very poor decision by referee Herb Dean when he chose to stop the fight early. It was a real shame as Robbie had done a lot of damage already and Askren was just getting his grappling game going so we never got a real look at how the fight would go down. Thankfully Dana has said that they will be running this one back.
Next Opponent: Ben Askren Rematch

Tecia Torres
Torres is now in a bit of a slump riding a 3 fight losing streak. Up until now she was fine as it was only the very best she was losing to but Zhang marks a change to more of emerging contender she has last to. No way you see her get cut Women's Starwweight is too thin for that but one more loss in a row an she may be in trouble so she really needs that win in the next one. Someone who's also in a bit of a slump is Cortney Casey having lost 3 of her last 4. So all round the fight makes sense with the winner getting back on track and the loser likely dropping out the rankings.
Next Opponent: Cortney Casey

Cody Garbrandt
It doesn't matter whatever way you try to frame or present it 3 straight KO/TKO losses don't look good. That's position Cody now finds himself in after again being drawn in to an all out fire fight. The fight was great fun for however long it lasted but Cody came off worse, yet another example of Cody getting maybe just a bit emotional and it costing him the fight. What he does next is huge, two TKO losses to Dillashaw are forgiven it was against the champion but Munhoz was ranked 9th. So he will definitely slide down the rankings a little this time. Although I think what Cody needs is a more favourable match against the likes of Dodson or Font for some reason I see him getting booked against Jimmie Rivera
Next Opponent: Jimmie Rivera

I enjoyed this. Please keep doing it.

I am very sad to announce BJ Penn will be competing AGAIN at UFC 237 against another legend in Clay Guida.

  • BJ's record in his last 10 fights is 1-9-1
  • He has lost his last 6 in a row (3 by stoppage)
  • By UFC 237 it will have been 8 years, 5 months and 21 days since BJ won a fight
I enjoyed this. Please keep doing it.

Thanks very much, I keep them coming after every PPV:D

If I'm reading that correctly, if you buy 2 UFC PPV's a year, out of the typical 12, it will be worth it/cheaper for you. $4.99 ($59.88) each individual month or $49.99 for 12 months + the PPV's will be $59.99 as opposed to old $64.99. It also says there will be a bundle price to basically buy all the PPV's, I presume like the monthly fee for the channel/service in which it will probably work out you'll get 1 of them "free".
