🥊 The Official Boxing Thread!!! - Part 5

In other news Rigondeaux vs Lomochenko announced for December 9th.

Keep going back and forth on this. One day I have GGG winning, the next day I have Canelo.

Eff it, I'm going with Canelo 12 rd decision win.

I have Canelo winning in 12 but I will say this: even if GGG has Canelo staggering around the ring from the opening bell, if it goes 12, no way does GGG get the decision. It ain't happening.

GGG would have to knock down Canelo at least 4 times to get a decision. That I definitely agree on.

If Canelo can handle GGG's power, and if he goes to the body early, I think he'll get GGG out of there late. I can never go against my policy, I just haven't seen GGG on this stage before, I've seen him hit quite often & I've seen him outboxed more than a few times. Power is a great equalizer, but more often than not, the better boxer prevails in these types of matches. I think Canelo is the more well rounded guy, by a little wider margin than most people believe.

That said, I can't even concentrate right now. Im supposed to be working, I just want this day to be over with already...

I have to say you have to go to the Lemieux fight. Folks felt not only could he trouble G but KO him too as he has frightful power too. G boxed his head off in that fight. His best performance in my opinion.

If that disciplined GGG still exist, he is going to beat Canelo somewhat easily imo.

It is a question of how reckless is he based on who he is facing. I don't think he is going to invite Canelo to hit him, nor should he. If GGG is working that jab, it might be a long, painful night for Canelo.

Just so we're clear, are you suggesting Lemieux is on the same level as Canelo Alvarez?

Not at all just that he's legit Middleweight folks thought could not only beat Golovkin but KO him too. On that night he boxed Lemieux's head off.

I know two posters here that just got really nervous about this bout. :funny:

It's free on ESPN in the states! :woot:

I KNOW you ain' talkin' bout ME!

This is interesting though......I can't remember the last time I saw 2 southpaws of this caliber face off and it makes it really difficult to know what's going to happen. My take is Lomo wins in a fight that he gradually takes over. He has sharper punches, puts them together better, and is a bit bigger; one of those situations where the bigger guy has the advantage. BUT, he generally fights right handers....as does Rigo. This is one I will most definitely watch (and on my big ass screen) and think it, frankly, could turn out to be a bit of a stinker; in spite of the fact that these are 2 of the most dynamic fighters on the scene.

Frankly, I don't think "Honest" Bob would allow this if he didn't think he knew what the outcome would be. Lomo needs to make sure he doesn't try to push upwards in weight. That's stupid, but money makes us do stupid things. Fallen Angel is 100% right about moving up before you're ready.

I think the odds are that Canelo can outbox GGG, but this is actually an intriguing matchup.....unlike the foregone conclusion we witnessed a few weeks ago.

Golovkin will know he has to be a bit cute against Canelo. He knows this will be his biggest challenge yet. He knows he can't simply rely on power here.

But i think Canelo will take the wind out of him though. Lots of body shots to take that power and mobility away. I see Canelo stopping GGG n the 10th or 11th.

Oh no. My money is on Lomo and I feel fairly confident. :woot:

On the flip side, this type of thinking is what could influence the judges in GGG's favor. Remember De la Hoya/Trinidad, people kept saying no way would Trinidad get a decision in Vegas, and look what happened.

Canelo needs to fight the perfect fight to win, needs to out box him do like Barrera did to Hamed.

I keep hearing how this could be Hopkins/Trinidad all over again, 35 year old veteran beating the 27 year old, but I don't see GGG boxing like Hopkins.

If Canelo can take his punch or nullifies it, he can get a non controversial decision win. No way does GGG out box him.

I can agree with this, but I do think this will be more of a slugfest than Canelo wants it to be

For all the power punches landed, neither was really hurt. I think if Canelo could hurt him, he would've gotten him out of there, he was easily outboxing GGG. Then he just gassed out for like 5 rds. I'm good with the draw honestly.

GGG won that fight, by at least 4 rounds. That 118-110 was an all time bad score card. Still, really good fight.

Yeah, he didn't outbox him. The pressure got to Canelo, he got tired as usual, and GGG out boxed him. This wasn't a slugging fight, this was a boxing fight, and GGG won that.

Think they'll do a rematch?
Yes. Though Canelo will want to wait, see if GGG gets a little older. The 35 year old had way more energy. :funny:

Canelo is getting booed by the crowd. Unfair. He boxed hard. He got outworked, out boxed.
