mj harry one - do the twist:ninja:

storylinw wise JUST MORE VENOM!!!!

I wonder how much you actually know about the comics. In the comics, Peter & Gwen did go to school together AND Gwen was actually his first love before MJ. They dated for a quite a while before the 1st Green Goblin dropped her off a bridge and killed her. Her Dad was also a police captain in the comics that was killed accidentally during a fight between Spider-Man & Doc Ock.

As you can see, they have already made some major changes in the transition from comics to big screen. As far as Spider-Man 3 is concerned, they used the characters from the comics to support the story they were trying to tell. So if you haven't read the comics, I understand how it can seem like a ton of coincidences. But if you have read the comics, you can fully appreciate the supporting characters because you know their history.
Bravo...and just as a side note 1 & 2 had a lot of coincedences as well...2 has a lot more than 1.

I do know the comics. I know who Gwen Stacy was. The movie added way more coincidence than was ever in the original comics (the church scene, Peter's adversary dating Gwen, the symbiote just happening to land near Peter, the Uncle Ben/Sandman connection). The script writers did not just transfer the comics to the screen. They added, deleted, and changed things around. It is not just my opinion or perception that all those things are coincidences. They are. Things co-incided over and over again. I am not saying that the movie was not fun. I am saying that they were pushing suspension of disbelief to its limit unnecessarily.

Everyone suspends their disbelief at different levels. And some people are more forgiving than others as well. SM1 & SM2 have a lot of the same flaws that SM3 has. SM3 followed the exact same formula that the first two films did - it just had a lot more ingredients. SM3 gave us more characters, more plot, more action, more everything - including coincidences. So shouldn't we be more forgiving? If anything, SM3 made the mistake of giving too much of a good thing.

If there is one tiny change I would make, it would be to take out the "You want forgiveness? get religion" line. I mean, I dont think its that hard to just assume that eddie brock is a very religious person in the movie (isn't he religious in the comics? I'm not sure, but I thought I read somewhere that Brock is a religious person in 616) and that he just went to church for comfort or whatever. IMO if there is a coincidence that happens in the comics, then I feel that it doesn't have to be explained. Plus I dont think he would be taking advice from a guy who just ruined his whole career.

If there's two coincidences I think people should stop complainign about, it would be the gwen stacy in the same class as parker "coincidence", and the church scene "coincidence".

It is not just my opinion or perception that all those things are coincidences. They are.

Oh, well then, in that case...:whatever:

I'll give you one of those. The symbiote meteor was lazy writing. That's it. Entangling relationships are not a plot device to bring characters into a movie, they are the reason that the characters are in the movie. Thus, when you complain about Gwen-dating-Brock-who's-Peter's-adversary-who's-Gwen's-lab-partner-etc., what you're really saying is that the idea that multiple interconnections can occur in a community requires a suspension of disbelief. And I called that absurd, because real life often and clearly does work precisely that way.

Or look at it this way. Peter needs a girl be the "other girl", and Eddie needs a girlfriend for Peter to steal. Now, it can either be two different girls, halving the chances of us caring about either of them, or it can be the same girl, which in an already crowded plot, ups her chances of being notable, as well as adding to the pathos. And, maybe we can make her Gwen Stacy, so that fanboys can get extra hyped. And, while we're at it, let's just go ahead and name the police captain Capt. Stacy too, since that gives us a solid nod to the comics. So, if what seems like a no-brainer is "lazy writing", than what's the alternative. A bunch of throwaway characters? Or do we need to tack an extra hour onto the plot so that we can double the amount of characters, and try really hard to develop them, just to make sure that nobody has any mutual acquaintances or is related to anybody else that wasn't otherwise established in Spider-man 1.

Not to beat this to death, but I don't think it would take more than a few seconds here or there to add plausible plot devices and get rid of some coincidences. If we are worried about time, I believe we could sacrifice the musical numbers.

Some have mentioned the coincidences in the other Spider-Man movies. That is my point exactly. The guys who write super hero movies consistently take this lazy way out. On the rare occasions that they don't, it is very refreshing. Other genres of movies don't have a bunch of incredible coincidences. Super hero movies do not have to have them either.

Dodus, let me clarify my last post. While it is an opinion that the coincidences make for a weak script, it is not an opinion that they are there.

I'd have Peter not be able to take the suit off much earlier in the film. Have him first wear it by choice, and then by force. I would have a lot of scenes depicting Peter's battle with the suit and enlisting Doc Conner's help (in the identity of Spider-man (not Peter) to figure out how to harm it. Once they discover that sound hurts it, *that's* when Peter gets the idea to go to the church tower to remove it. Essentially I wanted the suit to be more "alive".

Those are pretty good ideas, borkis. Would have made for some interesting scenes.

completely drop the sandman story (while it was a good story, and it was awesome to see the effects, it was just way too much stuff for one movie). Have two battles with harry and peter, one with harry and peter, and the second with the balck suit vs goblin.

I'd have Peter never get rid of the symbiote and live as Emo Spidey forever.

He couldn't be emo forever. Wouldn't the suit kill him and whatnot like in What If? :woot: Then again, I'm sure the studio could change that too.

1. Butler
2. Reporter lady
3. horrible kid cameos
4. lady at Spider-Man day having a happy seizure
5. MJ singing...once was enough to show she couldn't sing, she got fired for a reason
6. the long, akward dance scene
7. emo hair flip
8. giant Sandman going "BRAAAAAAAWWWWW" all the time

Other than that the movie was perfect...

Lol, those kid cameos?
Yeah, those were sam raimi's children...:woot:

I know and they were all just awful...bad things like that detract from the world the director is trying to set up.

The giant Sandman's voice was annoying.

Emo Peter Parker and everything that he spawned must go. That was heinous.

i would have tried having venon turm mary jane into a symbiote to get at pete.
not in the books true but i'd wondered why he never tried that:sym:
