2008 Academy Awards

You think so? I thought that "Transformers", "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End", and even "Spider-Man 3" were more impressive than stuff like "X-Men: The Last Stand" and "Superman Returns".

But I agree with you that for the most part, 2007 had much better Oscar-worthy films like "There Will Be Blood" and "No Country For Old Men". I can't even remember the nominees from last year other than "The Departed".

I hated AWE, and Transformers, though good, I feel is overrated on here. I am infamous for my SM3 love though :cwink:

While 2006 did have SR (which I loath), it did have DMC, which was awesome (I am just mad AWE was not up to par with it). And 2006 also had Letters From Iwo Jima, so it is not like all but The Departed in the BP catagory were not worthy pictures. Other noms were The Queen, Babel, and Little Miss Sunshine (saw all of them too).

Although I loved ST, I don't know if it's the best. Unfortunately, I didn't see enough of the nominees to really go one way or the other this year.

I saw all the BP noms...and I still feel ST is far better than at least 4 of the 5 (as I have said, There Will Be Blood deserves its nom).

If Roger Deakins doesn't win best cinematography for Jesse James, and Javier Bardem doesn't win best supporting actor I'll eat something that isn't meant to be eaten.

I'm not sure about cinematography, but I can guarantee you that Javier Bardem will win.

God, I can't wait for this. I feel like there will be an upset heard 'round the world.

In what category? I think it is pretty clear that it is either NCFOL or TWB winning BP.

Johnny Depp Sweeney Todd

I want Viggo to win personally

I hope Depp wins!!! Sweeney Todd was snubbed, but it winning a major award like BA would partially make up for it.

That's my choice for "shock the world" I don't think No Country not winning BP is as big of a suprise.

Anyone thing Amy Ryan can win SA?

There Will Be Blood winning BP I don't think would be a surprise either. Depp would be, though. Hope it happens :up:

I doubt either Juno or Michael Clayton will have chances to comete with NCFOM and TWBB, so if one of them wins, I'll be like :eek: :down

I think all of them are very good films, but neither Juno (which probably a great film, although I haven't seen it) nor Michael Clayton (Cloony was great in it) look like worthy Oscar winners.

What about TWBB and NCFOM, I haven't seen the first one, but I have been looking forward to it since the production start and I do think it's a masterpiece. I liked NCFOM, it was good western drama, but I though the ending really failed (especially this pointless monologue with Tommy Lee Jones' character; many people will say that I didn't care about what he tried to say, but actually I understood every his word and I didn't think it was necessary to show, because being an adaptation doesn't mean the movie should be 90-100% like a book to be great), so I guess it will be another movie, which will win Oscar, even though it doesn't really deserve the award.

I know alot of people hated the end speech by TLJ, but I thought it was perfect, It was more or less what the whole movie was about, and the title for that matter.

Yeah, I also read numerous reviews, half of which loved the ending and another half hated. I understand that Coens wanted to show that the movie is about old mean, which are no more necessary in our world and that there is indeed no country for them, but they could come up with way better idea of how to make the stuff deeper.

Best Actor, I fear there will be riots in the streets....led by me. :mad:

You want DDL to win? I wouldn't mind him winning, but I am pulling for Depp.

I see SA being a heated race between Blanchett and Ryan. My vote goes to Amy Ryan.

As for best picture. I think everyone is saying NCFOM (who I think will undeservedly win), TWBB or on a far shot Atonement and Michael Clayton. You want an upset heard around the world? Juno winning best picture. I am on the fence whether it or TWBB deserves it, but I have to admit the stunned look would be priceless on many a film critic (and snob's) face.

But for best actor, as much as I liked Depp, DDL HAS THIS LOCKED DOWN TIGHT. The only performance that came close was Viggo Mortensen in Eastern Promises, but I still want Lewis to win.

Dude, if Juno won best picture, I'm sure I would truly **** a brick.

Okay, I thought this was really cute, especially if you're going to throw a party Oscar night.

Oscar® Party!

Here's a sample.

"Juno" Menu

"As far as boyfriends go, Paulie Bleeker is totally boss. He is the cheese to my macaroni."

--Juno MacGuff

* Four Cheese Macaroni
* Summer Lamb Kabobs
* Orange Juice Cake
* Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Orange juice cake? :dry: :vomit:

And why is there no milkshake on the TWBB menu? :cmad:

Doesn't matter what flavor. I ain't picky.

Okay, I couldn't resist.....cocktails.

Oscar Nominee Drinks.

· To honor No Country for Old Men, they have Blood and Sand: Johnny Walker Red, cherry brandy, sweet vermout, and a splash of OJ served strained in martini glass. Enough of those should give you a hangover that feels like a bolt-stunner to the melon.
· The Juno drink is a Blue Slushee, named for the frozen treat our hero upchucks into her stepmother's urn: Stoli raspberry, blue curacao, and lemonade, blended with ice.

· No, There Will Be Blood's potable does not involve a milkshake. Rather, it's Texas Tea: gin, vodka, rum, tequila, Cointreau. OJ, sour mix, and a splash of Coke, served on the rocks.
· For Michael Clayton, they offer Fixer: amaretto, cognac, cherry brandy and cream. Strained over ice and served in a martini glass.
· And finally, inspired by Atonement (and especially apropo today), try Bound by Love, containing sloe gin, Chambord, lemon juice and an egg white, shaken with ice and served up.

Of course, had the brilliant Diving Bell and the Butterfly snagged a nod, they could have added the Paralyzer to that list, a potent concoction that renders the drinker able to communicate only through a series of eye blinks.
