I couldn't disagree more. He may have had the same visual style as say...Edward Scissorhands, but the role couldn't have been more different.

I disagree. Depp had an intensity that can't be matched by any of the other candidates, and when you take into account the nature of the movie (a musical) it says a lot.

But but he bust outs singing in that movie......i cant help but giggle, the intensity gone....that's a musical for you.

Does it matter though? I hate these "make-up awards." They should be judged on what is submitted. Even though Abigail Breslin was young, she should've won last year. She didn't because of her age. These things shouldn't factor in. Depp in my opinion gave the best performance in his movie that was nominated this year. Therefore I think he should've taken it home.

Anyway, I loved Depp in ST and as an actor in general, but DDL earned it. After him I'd say Viggo who from just the five clips got the biggest reaction from the audience and in general after DDL. Then, Depp. But I know if DDL wasn't running Academy politics/worship of big movie stars would have had the Academy step over Mortenson and Depp for Clooney (who thinks he's Hillary Clinton now). So, be glad the Oscar went to someone who did deserve it.
