2009 MLB Thread, part 2

Gary Matthews Jr. has demanded a trade. Any teams out there want a disgruntled and massively overpaid fourth outfielder?

...anyone?
you got to be ****tin me, that overpaid piss of **** needs to keep his mouth shut. Cant believe he got a 50 million dollar deal, what a waste

I can't really blame Matthews. It's not his fault the Angels (and Giants) were willing to give him that money. Everyone in Baseball knew it was a horrible contract before the ink had even dried. Then to be made absolutely irrelevant less than a season after you sign? That's gotta sting.

true man thank god Hunter was worth it, im glad they picked up Abreu over Anderson

You would think that being from the Boston area (where of course, the Red Sox have a long standing heated rivalry with the New York Yankees), Maria should have some semblance towards the identity of the Yankees' long time closer (one of the best of all-time):

LIMITED 'ACCESS': There were some very angry TV sports reporters, most of whom have covered the Yankees all season long, inside the Stadium Thursday night. Multiple moles said these reporters were rushed through their interviews with Yankee players to accommodate "Access Hollywood" "reporter" Maria Menounos.

"Guess the Yankees wanted to reach a different audience," one spy said. "They basically shafted the people who had been covering them all year to give her better access."

Before Menounos interviews Mariano Rivera, one stoolie overheard her ask, "Is he a pitcher?"

Still a sore spot, as I would have liked to see Anderson get to 3000 hits and retire as an Angel, but Abreu changed the entire culture of the lineup. Everyone was more patient this year (except Vlad of course). It was no longer Guerrero and Anderson swinging at the first pitch and there goes the heart of the order.

big pressure on hamels tonight. he needs to deliver a good performance for his team. almost a must win game for phillies, if you consider cc sv. blanton. i dont know, if manuel did us a favour. things can go either way, but on the paper it looks good for us. we will see if the outcome on the field will be the same..

Maybe the Braves if you're willing to take on an old, over-the-hill pitcher for 4 years (aka Derek Lowe).

ok so hamels totally balked there and no call?

Pettitte balks 75% of the time when he catches someone stealing. Only 2 have been called against him in the past 6 years. So no whining from you.

Absolutely true. It's like that call doesn't exist when Pettitte is on the mound.

I remember last year, Pettitte picked off Reyes which was clearly a balk. Of course, it wasn't called. Then Santana throws to 1B as A-Rod is stealing. His throw is called a balk. That game pissed me off to no end. Santana was squeezed beyond belief against Jeter and Abreu. Hell, Abreu actually thought he was struck out. When Bobby Abreu thinks he should be called out on strikes, there's no way he shouldn't be. Of course because Santana had no strike zone, he throws a strike to A-Rod who hits a double.

The Yankees must be counting on Rivera to pitch the last five innings.

Not until Joe Girardi uses his entire bullpen in 2 innings.

Wow. Cole Hamels really isn't the same pitcher he was last year. This may kill the Phillies.

Unfortunately A-Rod won't go hitless in his first World Series appearance.

My how the tables have turned. Where is everyone who said the Yankees were gone after game 1 now?

If this is the case, then how come everyone in MLB thinks he does not balk? They have looked at him really well and he does not balk.

Yankees had a good win...Im glad Swisher finally started hitting. I have no idea what is up with Hamels...Maybe he needs to add some weight this offseason...the guy looks like a stick and tires out so fast. I think he may be moved to the bullpen at some point in his career.

I'm glad the Yankees pulled out another win!

Have you not paid attention to the umpiring at all this year? Or even just this post-season?
