2009 MLB Thread, part 2

I agree. Girardi shouldn't use AJ Burnett on a 3-day rest. They don't have to win tonight, and it is better to use AJ when he's better rested.

AJ is 4-0 with 2.33 ERA on 3 days rest in his career, although he's never done it as a Yankee and never with the World Series on the line. He can do it if he can avoid one of his trademark wild innings, and with Cliff Lee pitching again that would definitely take this back to NY if it happens.

It's more that he's pitching on the road than on 3-days rest. He's been worse on the road than at home this year.

True. I have a feeling this is going back to the Bronx.

Boy, that bottom yankee lineup looks bad. Everyone after A-Rod is weak against Lee tonight.

I think you have to put Gardner in center tonight, because Melky is hurt.

Jeter
Damon
Tex
ARod
Swisher
Cano
Gardner
Molina
Burnett

Or do we add Matsui in Left field and Damon in center?

^Girardi is an idiot for pitching AJ tonight. Lee can pitch with his eyes closed tonight.

What a moronic decision by Girardi! Pitch AJ on 3 days rest in an opposing ballpark when up 3 games to 1 against a dominant pitcher?! This move makes no f'n sense, am I wrong here? AJ can pitch well(3 runs in 8 IP) and they can still lose the game 3 to 1. Why waste AJ here? Yanks are not beating Cliff Lee no matter what. So Girardi would rather lose 3 to 1(and this is being generous to AJ) rather than lose 10 to 1?

I think you underestimate the Yankees offense here. Cliff Lee is still a human being. It's not impossible to beat him. Burnett has done well this postseason with the exception of the Angels game. As long as Burnett pitches well into the 7th, the Yankees can have a shot to win this game. It's not a moronic decison by Girardi. Afterall, they made it this far with a 3-man roatation. The pressure is Cliff Lee tonight. I don't think he's ever been under this kind of pressure in a game before. He's alson 4-4 against the Yankees with an ERA over 5.

So then Girardi follows up AJ on short rest with Andy on short rest?!:huh: Is Girardi trying to sabotage his own team? He is up in the series 3-1, not down 1-3! Andy on normal rest is a 4 run 6 IP type pitcher. He will get creamed in this position. I guess Yankees are looking to take this to the 7th game because it can easily go that route. Not too mention, the back end of the lineup tonight will feature Gardner, Molina, then AJ(with no Posada or Matsui in there).

Brett Gardner has 5 AB against Lee in his career with 2 of them being hits. The Yankees still have Jeter, A-Rod and Teixera. Damon has also been coming up big for the Yankees.

Stupid, stupid, stupid move by Girardi. Pitch Gaudin tonight! Concede the game!! Then come back with the rest of the staff on full rest at home! A regular rested AJ at home wins game 6, now it's completely in the air. Idiotic.

The Yankees stand a better chance with Burnett on the mound. Gaudin hasn't pitched in a game since October the 20th.

With only one person needing to go on 3 days rest. Now, it's completely different. Yea, we can bring up Lee's past history, why don't we bring up A-Rod's past postseason struggles as well. That stuff is meaningless. Right now, at this current time, Lee is pretty much unhittable. The guy literally does not break a sweat. I'm not underestimating the Yankees offense but great pitching wins over great hitting. Look at what Lee did to the Yanks on the season opener and this past game 1 and that was with the Yanks at full offensive strength.

I don't disagree. But there "better" chance still won't be good enough to win. AJ can be great, but Lee will still be better. It's a complete waste to use AJ tonight.

Putting Gaudin in is like throwing the game away...You just never know what will happen in baseball.

Most pitchers can go on 3-days rest. They don't do it in the regular season because the pitcher will eventually hit fatigue down the stretch. And A-Rod has been horrible in the World Series so far with the exception of two big hits. The players you didn't expect to come up big are(Matsui, Damon and Posada). Nothing is a guarantee at this point. I would rather have Burnett on the mound tonight than Gaudin.

I also just read that Burnett has pitched on 3-days rest. 4-0 with an ERA around 2.33.

One of the funniest was the 19-0 2007 Patriots book that was on Amazon for pre-order during the Superbowl.

Or when they started painting the World Series logo on the field at Fenway during the 2003 ALCS.

I saw someone with the 2000 Mets World Series champs pennant on the subway once.

Sometimes, you have to lose the battle to win the war.

I don't think any manager in their right mind is going to concede a WS game.

Besides, they give up this one, they come home to face Pedro. It's not like it's going to get easier from here. If he's ready to go, let him go. I'd rather see him out there than Gaudin, who hasn't pitched a game in weeks.

Every team I've wanted to win each series is going to lose. Rockies lost, Cardinals lost, Dodgers lost, Twins lost, Angels lost. Phillies are on the brink of losing. Only team that won that I wanted to was the Angels in the DS.

All that on top of a gut-wrenching NLCS lost in 06, collapse in 07, smaller choke job in 08, and a 92 loss season this year. I'm waiting for you, karma.

Karma can't come through in the clutch.

Yankees on the board early. Lee looks a little off. Let's see how Burnett does.

That's why Utley is the . first HR for The Phils with a man on.

So far, it doesn't seemed like a good idea to start AJ Burnett in Game 5.

Burnett didn't know Victorino was going to bunt. I don't think he would have thrown so far inside. The Utley HR could've been avoided. The Phillies are going to pick up on his first pitch strikes.

Burnett looks shaky...I hope Lee isnt Sandy Koufax out there tonight
