2010-2011 NBA thread: There's No Crying in Basketball

Unless you honestly hear the word, it's a case of innocent until proven guilty. I would say the same thing about somebody using the n word.

This is exactly how I feel about it. This is a real slippery slope sort of thing. I've actually HEARD way worse during games and players don't get fined for it nor does anybody complain about it. Hell I've heard players say worse things to fans in the crowd.

With all that said though Kobe already apologized for saying it. He chalked it up as a heat of the moment thing (which it was) so he basically earned his fine. Him being suspended would be idiotic. I still think this is being blown WAY out of proportion though.

Yeah, apparently one cannot say anything remotely controversial without getting fined.

Not in the NBA you can't.

I've been saying for the longest time that Stern is aware of the leagues image problems so he's hypersensitive to this type of stuff. It's about other people's bias' and preconceived notions about NBA players. That's why A.I. got so heavily scrutinized for doing a rap album that had coarse language but Rick Fox got praised for playing a drug addicted rapist NBA star on Oz.

Stern really, really needs to go. I wish with this Lock out coming. The players would say that one of the stipulations would be for Stern to step down.

This wasn't really even saying anything wrong. No one heard him! So basically in NBA you can't even mouth anything either!

A homophobe, a rapist and a black guy walk into a bar.

And everyone's like "Hey Kobe, can we have your autograph..?"

Wow Lakers just blew a 20 point lead to the Kings they might have to face Portland in the 1st round.

Lakers don't deserve to win this game. This game shouldn't even be as important as it is right now. They managed to be lazier this season than they were last season.

Well, Bulls got home court advantage throughout the playoffs. Lets hope they get to use it.

Well the Lakers got the second seed even though they didn't deserve it. They'll be facing a New Orleans team that frankly doesn't stand a chance against them.

Dallas is probably going to get knocked out of the first round by Portland.

Denver/OKC could potentially be the best first round series we've seen in awhile.

Memphis should put up a decent fight against San Antonio.

There must be an NBA POOL This YEAR!!!

Tell that to Tim Hardaway......

Hardaway rightfully got in trouble for his comments and if Kobe actually did hurl a slur he should be punished too. I just have a problem with the whole "It looks like he said something homophobic" ********.

It's very unfortunate that that term is commonly used as a synonym for "lame/bad/stupid." Hopefully it gets phased out.

That being said, there is a big difference between someone using that word as a synonym for "lame/bad/stupid" in a fit of passion in the middle of the game and what Hardaway did by saying that he dislikes gay people, thinks they are abnormal, and doesn't want to be around them. What Kobe said was ignorant and insensitive, but it wasn't coming from a place of genuine hatred and homophobia.

To that end...

Thats so cute. Everyone is starting to care about the Kings now.

Its gonna be a long road.

I am looking forward to it. But am also not. I am so used to just being happy to be able watch Bulls for at least 4 more games.

It is taking some adjustment to think that I may have my schedule full for the next 2 months. Been a while since that happened.

Yeah I know, give me a break from that BS.

There are some cheap ass tickets going for the Pacer's home games against the Bulls. I got some for $40. I wouldn't be surprised if the crowd is 1/3 Bulls fans.

Sacramento losing their basketball team is a huge thing. I mean, I can't believe you guys as NBA fans are belittling this. This is just as bad as when Seattle lost the Sonics.

How many ****ing teams does California need? Plus they aren't really going anywhere. You can't compare this to the Sonics moving all the way from Seattle to Oklahoma. That's ridiculous.

That's irrelevant. Basketball in Sacramento has it's own unique history. There's a reason people are crying and extremely saddened by this all but inevitable move.

They aren't really going anywhere, it's not like they're moving cross country. Compared to Seattle, they're literally moving down the road to a new house. On the same block.

California and Texas typically have multiple pro sports teams because they're so big and they can actually support those teams.

As for the Kings fans I almost feel bad for them seeing as how their last game in that arena was a loss to the Lakers of all teams.

That doesn't change the fact that they're moving. I mean, when the Nets move to Brooklyn, the 17 Nets fans will be sad to see them move even though they can just catch a train over to Brooklyn. Seriously. Sacramento to Anaheim is like a 7 hour drive.

Yeah, Cali is a big place. They're gonna have to build up a whole new fanbase. It is kinda sad. They were really good for like, what? Four or five years, but those were some great years.

Yeah, they were terrible more than they were good, but they had such a strong fan base it's really a sad day in the NBA. Especially if they all of a sudden become good like the Thunder did.:o
