As much as I hate the Jets, I'm getting tired with the amateurish sports prognosticating coming from Steeler Nation. I'm almost positive the Jets will win this one, perhaps not by a mile, perhaps only by 1 point, but I honestly don't see their defense giving up big plays to Roethlisberger. Especially after how dumbfounded Tom Brady looked out there. I've never seen that before. I've seen him frusterated when his team crumbles around him, but he always seems to understand the game around him. Even against the Jets he slowly began to realize their defense in the second half; too little, too late. The Steelers, no such luck.
My biggest pet peeve is consistently hearing about the "Polumalu factor". "We didn't have Troy the last time, blah, blah, blah, his hair is magic, he'll wave his hands and Sanchez will turn into a bunny rabbit". The Patriots were down Mike "The Avalanche" Wright and Ron Brace for most of the season, two monster DLs and we made adjustments and soldiered on without them until the post-season. And while Polumalu is my favorite defensive player, I lack the faith Steeler nation places upon his shoulders. I've seen Tom Brady and Peyton Manning make him a non-factor plenty of times, and he was of little consequence in the first three quarters of the Ravens game last week.
The Steelers loss to me proves two things:
1) The Jets CAN and WILL run the ball more effectively than any other team the Steelers have faced, doing so in week 15.
2) Specials Teams and the Jets D still will be a deciding factor.
Also the Steelers seem weaker defensively when you spread the ball around, especially to either side of the field, this is where Santio Holmes and Braylon Edwards will burn the Steelers corners, and where the Polumalu factor will be essentially a non-issue.
The Steelers can win, and it's almost business as usual if they do, I just don't expect it.
