it got worse if you saw what he did after the hit. When asked about it at halftime, he said he had to "keep his composure" even though it wasn't even that bad of a foul

Yep. If I were Jerry Reinsdorf, I would seriously be considering firing Tom Thibodeau right now. Bulls were set to make a championship run this season. That hope just got flushed away because the coach wouldn't tell his star to sit the **** down with a 12 point lead and 70 seconds left. Thibodeau's excuse is that Rose needed to "work on closing." The playoffs isn't the time for a teaching experience. I'd fire him.

I'll agree with you. That is extreme. Either way, by Monday afternoon, he will be scapegoated and crucified by angry fans, management, and analysts.

You're right that if Rose doesn't get injured, no one says a thing. But Rose DID get injured. And just like that, the Bulls went from being championship favorites to bordering on irrelevant. The Bulls can't hang with the Heat and Celtics now.

It was one bad decision. One bad call that ruined a potential championship season however. It was one of those massive, colossal **** ups that someone has to take the fall for. It is like the otherwise solid kicker who shanks the 20 yarder in the playoffs with ten seconds left. He's still a quality kicker, but you almost have to cut him. This decision was too stupid and will have too big of an effect to let Thibodeau stick around.

I usually pop up every now and then in the playoffs. I have no stake in the NBA, but I do follow it casually throughout the season and increase my attention during the playoffs.

Is it Ok to put a little bit of blame on Rose himself though? I just saw a clip of the injury now and he made a pretty strong move to the basket when they had a comfortable lead. He's already been so fragile this season and another scenario could've been him landing on another player's foot in traffic late in the game like that. ACL injuries are always freak and random too but I think he could've avoided the paint at that point in the game. T-Mac scored 13 points in 30 seconds a few years ago, it's not like it's impossible for the coach to want to have his starters in just a little bit longer.

To be a bit fair, as someone who's ruptured his Patella Tendon and tore an ACL on different occasions, once your body starts breaking down in that way, it's going to happen regardless, sooner or later. It wasn't the same as say, Shumpert's, who made an awkward step, this was a jumping motion, there wasn't anything awkward about it.

With the way he plays, the type of explosive movements and corkscrew actions he makes, if it was going to go, it was going to go, whether it was this series, next series, Conference Finals, whenever. If he kept playing Basketball the way he plays it, he wouldn't have lasted this season.

I don't think he will be fired. Though if they lose this series I am sure there will be some talk. I am simply saying that I would.

It is a coach's job to know these things. You're right, no fan thought that Rose should sit. But a coach should. A coach should remember the cautionary tale of Magic in game 2 and the 4 game sweep that followed. With victory in hand, the star should be on the bench.

Plus Thibodeau's explanation is ridiculous. The playoffs isn't the time for Rose to be learning how to close a game. Thibodeau should just own up and admit the mistake.

No, it's not on Rose. Players are dumb, players are selfish, especially in basketball (the most individualized of all team sports). It is the coach's job to know better and to tell his player to sit the **** down.

As long as Chris Bosh continues to play scared in the presence of Kevin Garnett, I'm not so sure, but without a doubt, if Miami somehow doesn't come out of the East, it will be a failure of monumental proportions...

To be fair, 12 points isn't an insurmountable lead with a little more than a minute left. At best it's, a 4-5 possession lead, but a few quick and timely turnovers could tie it. But with hindsight, it didn't make much sense for Rose to be in there, especially given his recent injury issues, and it doesn't make sense to for him to be trying to score the way he did in traffic.

Your point on Rose trying something like that falls on the coach. He knows his player, he knows Rose is going to go all out while he is on the floor. That is why he should of been protecting him from himself.

Meh, Bosh manned up last year in the playoffs against Garnett as the series progressed.

The East is all but locked up for Miami now.
