2011 NFL Thread: The Lazarus Season - Part 2

Meh, Bradford was lighting it up with Clayton last season before he got injured, they were looking damn good every game.

Rams gave the Giants that game last night. The Giants offense is like watching paint dry. Thankfully for them, the Rams cant field punts, throw a proper screen pass, or socre in the red zone.

Next week: Dallas vs Washington? Seriously?

If I were Jim Harbaugh, I'd try to tank harder than Chiefs with the Niners so I can be reunited with my QB from Stanford. Harbaugh should do it unless he really believes Alex Smith is their franchise QB. And Niners aren't going anywhere in the future without an elite player in that position.

Alex is a good qb..with the right coach.(harbaugh) he will shine, hes already shown big improvement in just 2 games from the last 4 yrs. Our main problems are..our oline is like swiss cheese..we cant pass protect or open holes for frank gore.. Im thinking maybe gore's lost a step (hopefully i'm wrong)

I would agree that Alex Smith is a good QB, but "good" isn't good enough to "shine" in the NFL. Smith is a smart QB who can take what the defense gets him but he can't be counted on to makes plays (these phrases get thrown around a lot, but for those that don't really understand the true substance of it, think of a QB who can complete short crossing routes rather than a guy who can fit a ball through a very tight window).

Alex Smith would be a top backup QB (which is very important), but not a QB who will win consistently as a starter.

I expect some sort of fine from Goodell on the Giants for faking those injuries when the Rams were driving with the no huddle & they were out of formation.

No way in hell TWO guys that were perfectly healthy and standing one second, and they both collapse on cue, holding themselves & 2 minutes later they're back up with no ill effects. A wise & crafty tactic but no way Goodell let's 'flopping' invade the league.

They're just taking a cue from the other football. Too many trips to England.

Heh, that's quite possible but it's up to the Hammer to kill this shiz off before it takes root.

More of that market nonsense the networks are so fond of.

Sunday night's game is Steelers/Colts...I'm sure at the time NBC set it, it was seen as a good match up.

But now Peyton is out.

The problem with the Rams weren't their receiving in general, it was their red zone offense. Instead of scoring touchdowns, 3 out of their 4 attempts were field goals and another was a s****y backwards pass that became a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

What Bradford needs to do is get better in the redzone. It killed them against the Falcons and Saints last season when Bradford through Ints on that side of the field and it killed them against the Giants because if they scored touchdowns, they could've won that game easily. Bradford was getting it downfield, but damn, they were awful inside the 20.

Yeah, seemed like a great game/match up weeks ago. Now ... not so much.

Too bad the flexible schedule isn't in place from the start of the season.

To be honest, were we expected to beat the Packers?

Not really. Of our next 4 games (Jaguars, Bears, Saints, Falcons) Only the Jaguars are beatable. I dont understand why Rivera is putting the game in Newton's hands when we have 2 great RBs and an ok O-line. The Picks Newton threw though in week 2 were all in the 3rd Quarter I believe and our def held off the Packers actually for once after the picks.

Edit: err the Quote I was replying to dissapeared....

So....anyone else think that Biff Tannen needs to do a Rex Ryan biopic?

From now on, any time that I see Ryan screaming on the sidelines I'm going to envision him screaming "HEEEELLLO!?!? MCFLY!!!! GET THE BALL IN THE ENDZONE BUTTHEAD!!!!"

I'm not a big fan of Mike Brown, but he did the right thing in not trading Palmer. It opens pandora's box. Plus, Palmer signed a contract. No one heard him complaining when he got that big ass signing bonus. I wonder if he tanked and Mike Brown asked for his money back if Palmer would've given it? Of course not. So why should Brown honor the contract and not Carson?

Meh. Owners rip up contracts everyday when they cut and release players. Sorry, I'm not going to take Mike Brown or any other owner's side when it comes to player hold outs and trade requests.

Why don't you make like a tree, and get outta here?

Except that it hurts his team. If you can get a third round pick for Palmer, or get nothing out of Palmer, whats the better move?

It was probably a dumb footbal move to not give in to Palmer's demands, but I have to admit, I kind of like it. Brown basically said "Fine, retire".

If I was a Bengal with several million in the bank, I would do the same thing. Football is too brutal a sport to play for a franchise that literally has no interest in winning.

From a business standpoint, it's stupid on Brown's part to let an asset just depreciate into nothing as opposed to getting some kind of return on it.

It's not opening Pandora's Box, since that box, of players forcing trades, has already been opened for a long time. Hello Jay Cutler?

Why should they be fined ? They took advantage of a grey area . Tyhis league already gives the offense too many advantages with these rules . It is nice and smart that Grant used head . and killed the momentum .

This is no worse than Baseball players trying to steals signs ( which of all of them do ) Non issue here

3 Weeks in a row that the Cowboys are playing in the Ny Market . Seriously ? I know they have a large fan base but still .. The NNF schedule is awful

The Giants are not the first nor will they be the last to "fake" an injury to stall an offense.

Absolutely. There have been multiple teams that have used signals to indicate proper times to fake. As the rules are written, its fair strategy IMO.

There are tons of ways offense have an advantage over the defense, this hardly seems like a scale tipper.
