2011 NFL Thread: The Lazarus Season - Part 7

Yeah, you can play the position without being a total thug. There is a difference between being a tough, mean player (Warren Sapp) and being unable to establish the difference between professional football and UFC fighting. Suh is just a thug in pads. Sad part is, if it were Aaron Rodgers and not a lineman, Suh would be done for the season. Personally, I think that he should be benched for the year.

Come now, Matthew, you're allowing yourself to be a prisoner of the moment.

If the current NFL Rules, which are horribly slanted toward the offense & ridiculously heavy handed against nearly every defensive action, were in place during YOUR Steeler's Golden Era, you could X out several of those titles. What used to be hard nosed defense is now vilified & overly penalized & THAT is what you see on display in recent weeks. Can you imagine how f'n frustrating it has to be to try to play your position at the highest level with what has to feel like kid gloves on?

Now as I've already stated & even Ant agreed, what he did was wrong, no bones about it. This nonsense about him being a dirty player is just BS.

Mean Joe, the entire Steel Curtain legacy, & just the bedrock of defensive play in professional football would have never been able to even exist under the current rules. Nobody's saying let's have guys curb stomping defenseless players but don't slap a label on a guy for being young, dumb, talented, & frustrated.

Aaaaannnnnddd the Dolphins are back in Mega FG mode.

& it is never a good sign for the Dolphins when they have to score this many Field Goals

Finally, the end zone. Hell of a catch by Marshall.

I think the Cowgirls coach just **** himself when he saw that TD catch

Dolphins are making this a game. Way better game than that Packers/Lions game.

He is a dirty player. Just as James Harrison is a dirty player. When Suh had that guy on the ground before the stomp he was holding his head, lifting it and slamming it on the ground repeatedly. I am not criticizing him for hitting hard or grabbing the facemask. I am criticizing him for doing the same things Harrison does, trying to hurt defenseless players. That is, IMO, being a dirty player.

Somehow and someway the Cowboys pulled that out. Dolphins really gave it a real good shot. They botched a lot of things but I think they could have had that one, especially with those two interceptions earlier in the game.

Fire Sprano. Fire him right now. ...play to win, not lose. Should had allowed Moore to air it out down field THREE times on last drive. Had 288 yards passing. Dumb ass.

I don't know how many Dolphins games I've watched where they've nursed a late lead and lost by a score because they were anemic in the red zone, but it's entirely too damn many.

Argh still can't believe the 49ers/Ravens not on Primetime!

Thankfully I have the NFL Network but I hate their commentators. May just hit mute and maybe put on the Sirius feed and get the local commentators.

Pretty lackluster game so far.

Joe Flacco: the only quarterback in the league who gets a first down for throwing an interception.

It is lackluster. Just a very defensive game. And he threw the interception but the Niners DB did hold the Smith's arm pretty blatantly.

Now the Ravens should have converted that into a TD but didn't. Not that I'm complaining though. Niners need to pick it up...need Ravens to lose and a big Steelers win Sunday Night. :cwink:

Dammit. Are the 49ers trying to lose this game?

Also. Joe Flacco's weird facial hair reminds me of the scene in Dumb & Dumber when Harry and Lloyd are riding up to Aspen on a Moped and they have snot-staches.

Hahaha! Yeah, that handle bar mustache needs to go...maybe he thinks it's lucky or something. :oldrazz:

Okay, I think this game is proof that Alex Smith is not a long-term solution at QB. I never really thought he was anyway, but given how well San Fran has done this season, I started to rethink that. Not so much anymore.

Tonight, I think they became the 69ers. Because they suck.

You can't really blame Smith all that much. That Ravens D was really bringing on the pressure. They beat the crap out of him pretty much the whole game.

He also had a really nice deep ball to Ginn that went to the end zone that got called back because of a chop block by Gore. So, some bad breaks there too.

At this point it's pretty much out of their grasp for the win. Was hoping the Ravens would take the loss but it was a pretty good game overall.

Was there any doubt about Smith being a long term solution??!!! I've waited desperately for 6-7 years hoping by some sheer miracle, that he'd turn it around. Sometimes when the ball gets snapped he scrambles, & he seems indecisive or just can't find an open receiver. I say, after they clinch the division they give Kaepernick a chance or draft a superior QB. They should also consider drafting a BIG WR & offensive line help.
