People still want to see these movies in 3D, despite not given a chocie. If they were still forced, then they wouldn't care enough to see it and just watch it online or wait until DVD. They pay because they want to see the film itself.

Pretty much my feelings, Im not sure what the overall statistic is on theaters in the country that show just 3D showings but I would assume its a small enough number where it wouldnt force people in large droves to not go. I live in baltimore and from here to NYC and down to the Florida most from what I search offer atleast one 2D and 1 3D and if not then just 3D. Not everyone shares my feelings on 3D, "Pay more to see less".

So, you're saying that the majority of people wouldn't have seen Alice in Wonderland if it wasn't in 3D? It wouldn't have made as much money, but it would not have drawn in Dark Shadows numbers. Basically your trying to tell me that all of the people who spent 80 mil to see the movie in 3D, would not have seen it? I just don't buy it, especially since Wonderland had appeal across multiple major demographics. I really don't think 3D is that big of a deal, and it'll be done in 5 years.

It all comes down to us the consumer, It will take 2 big summer movies bombing in the 3D sales department for it to even make them rethink. Just look back at how watchmen made them afraid to release big budget r rated movies.

I've gone to the movies over a dozen times since the 3D option became widely used and I can recall only one time when I was ”forced” to watch 3D.

I accidently bought a ticket to a 3D show Avengers. I was even given the option for a refund but decided to see it in 3D anyway.

No one ripped me off.

To me 3D is no more a rip off than blu-ray dvds. Alot of people are willing to pay premium prices for movies for the best experience possible.

Most movies aren't helped much by 3D. Then there are a handfull of movies that greatly benefit from 3D.

I'll gladly pay an extra 4 bucks to see The Amazing Spider-man in 3D.

I don't mind 3D existing as long as I have the option to still watch in 2D. Thus far it hasn't been an issue. Actually, the local theatres will usually have more 2D showings than 3D and I've never been in a situation where I was forced to go to the 3D version.

If they stopped showing films in 2D, then I'd complain.

I think 3D is a form of cheating and fluffing for the Box office books for studios. I mean take away 3D from alice in wonderland and no post avatar 3D madness and that might have done dark shadows nunbers. I think if a movie is good enough to perform it shouldnt need fancy spinner add ons like 3D. If the dark knight rises doesnt best atleast the hunger games opening weekend then there will be a huge problem. 3D is a gimmick and a sucky one at that.

Alice in Wonderland had almost 4 times the opening weekend gross that Dark Shadows had, it wasn't 3D that did that. Tim Burton is always successful when adapting well known properties.

I could see The Dark Knight Rises fall short of Hunger Games. It's been 4 years since The Dark Knight and the main villian isn't as well known. However, it's the last of Nolan's trilogy and people are very curious about it. Although, I do think Hunger Games had/has more going for it, it's the "it" property right now, has mass appeal and was done right. It's this year's Harry Potter, the right property's movie at the right time, done well.

Yep, some people are overplaying the villain and Ledger card. At this point, it doesn't matter anymore. Chris Nolan's name is a brand nowadays thanks to TDK and Inception.

And I'm sorry, but even outside of my Batman fandom, Bane looks like an incredible villain in his own right. Quite honestly, he seems to have a Darth Vader-esque quality about him.

Besides, has Bane really lived up to his expectations in the comics? Ever since Knightfall, there's been some good Chuck Dixon Bane stories, but last I checked, he's still the size of an elephant and not as smart as could be. Or am I wrong?

I think Nolan is giving Bane a lot more than he has been given in the past 20 years. He's making him better from what I've seen so far.

Yes the end result is money doesn't mean tickets sold should not still be listed as well. When a lady gaga album debuts do they say lady gaga made 15 million in sales last week? no they say she sold 500,000 copies or whatever.

Same for books, cars etc. It just gives you a more accurate measure of how big a movie really is imo.

Yeah, given what the direction they're going with and what we've seen, an epic grand finale to the Batman legend. Does Riddler or Penguin fit that idea? Not really. The idea of Bane lends himself to that, in terms of finishing the story and Bruce's own journey. You want to finish big, you get a lesser known villain who's both a physical and pshycological threat to Batman and the entire city.

The scale for the third film was always going to limit the number of villains they could use. A lot of Batman's villains are more personal ones. Bane, Talia, Hugo Strange, Freeze, Ivy, Black Mask. There really wasn't a ton to choose from for a grand finale and some of them (Freeze, Ivy) don't really fit the Nolanverse.

I still remember some of the fan ideas here of making the riddler a corrupt FBI agent trying to find out his identity or the penguin as another mob boss. They would not as nearly had the impact of what nolan is doing with bane.

By the time it's finished, it will be the 3rd highest grossing domestic but I don't think it can topple James Cameron. It should end around $550 million domestic.

I don't think using Riddler or Penguin needs to be limited by fan ideas. I'm sure there are enough talented writers who could come up with a compelling story for both those characters that far exceed the Burton/Schumaker versions.

Bane might work for this film, but he's a very weak villian in Batman's rogue gallery. The character was basically created as a vehicle to jumpstart comic sales in the early 90's, and to introduce a new Batman and Batman suit.

My interest in TDKR really stems from a conclusion to the story and to see Ann Hatheway's take on Catwoman. Honestly I think Bane looks like some sort of S&M freak with a fluffy coat, in this version.

Hopefully after this film, Bane is looked at agian and changed. I'm not talking about Nolan-izing him, just making him someone who is truly formidable again. And don't be afraid to make changes to him to make him bigger (not literally) and better.

And yeah, I dont' think Avengers will make it past $600 but it's going to get past $500 mil.

but yeah the Cameron mega-hits are safe. It won't come close to 2 billion WW.
