I actually would be ok with them losing the 1st round pick for 3 years. I think the 1st, 2nd and 3rd for 3 years is too much. Also, $1,000,000+ fine and loss of the franchise tag is more than enough. Also, we need to talk suspensions.

Yeah Darth, I'm with you on this. Taking 1st, 2nd, AND 3rd Round picks for 3 f'n years is excessive.

I still find the sensitivity of this issue slightly entertaining, especially for something I think is being sensationalized & overblown. Of all the rats scurrying through the kitchen, you manage to trap 1 & stand in awe at the fact that it even exists, completely ignoring the continuous sound of vermin in the walls.

He was asking for 23M per year. 1/5 of the cap. You can't give him that. Tbh I think we should trade him for two first and more and sign Peyton. Brees is two faced guy right now.

Think about this. He was a 2nd round pick so he got a 2nd round pick contract. Then he was given a mediocre contract because he was an injury risk. Now this will probably be his last contract and his only shot for the payday he deserves. He was the 16th best paid QB last season. That is a crime.

In 2011, I think Cassel, Vick, Rivers, Ryan, Staford and Sanchez were in the top 10 highest paid QBs.

The other 4 were the Mannings, Brady and Roethlisberger.

Really think the Saints are going to lose at least 2 1st Round Draft picks. Rest is just going to be suspensions and heavy fines.

Look at the situation that giving a huge, long term contract to an aging Peyton Manning has put the Colts into. It is a fine line to walk with a player of his age. He probably still has a few good years, but at the same time...this is a guy who has been injury prone in the past and is getting older....so you have to balance long term plans against keeping the face of your franchise happy. I can see where both sides are coming from.

The fact that Cassel, Vick and Sanchez are on that list is laughable. It is amazing that after years of being out of the league for jail time, constantly being injured when he does play and obvious signs of aging Vick somehow still gets more money than Brees based on one good year. Is that a slight against the Eagles front office or the Saints? Probably a little of both.

Indeed. That's why I believe the 23 million was for the first 3 years. It's a front loaded contract. So it's not completely unreasonable money grab on his part.
