24: Live Another Day - Part 2

.....why the hell was there a samurai sword on a Russian cargo ship? :funny:

The producer mentioned in an interview that they built a set that was supposed to be a room where the ship's crew hung out, and they had decorated it with 'souvenirs' that they had picked up all over the world while delivering shipments.

I never really followed the show till late into the 7th Season and I know that the early seasons did quite well awards wise but how about after? I imagine 5 did well as that Season still blows my mind. But how about later for awards?

Season 5 was the show's peak, both creatively (imo) and awards-wise (won Best Drama Series and Best Actor along with many others). After that season, it still got Emmy nominations, mostly in the tech and occasional acting categories, but outside of Cherry Jones' win for S7, it didn't have any more big wins. I don't think it was nominated for Best Drama Series after S5. Kiefer did get another nod for Redemption, though, as that was in the "TV Movie" categories.

Are we all in agreement that if they do another season next year that it should be the last one? I think one more "tenth" season just to give Jack Bauer a fitting close would be appropriate. The man has saved his country, saved the world and lost nearly everyone close to him. I wont be satisfied until we get a proper send off for the character. I still think LAD was one 24's best seasons but I am not satisified with that ending. Its only slightly better than season 8's open ended conclusion.

Yeah I'd be happy with one more season. But even though I loved the LAD format I'd rather a full 24 episodes. It would put LAD as the odd one out and obviously there would be limits with scheduling however Sutherland is still in his forty's and is likely in shape to pull off one more full go. I'd also like a positive ending, it's like Batman, yeah we get the guy has been through some **** but please just once give him some goddamn happiness!

Also LAD proved the show can still be fresh and they could come up with something really creative for one final hurrah.

I think if the producers can tell stories that are on par with LAD, it should keep coming back until Keifer and the creative team decides to be done. I see no reason to end simply to end. The show should end when the writers have no more stories left to tell. Not when we decide they cannot have anymore stories to tell.

Yeah I just checked the awards for S5. Gobsmacked that Gregory Itzin didn't win as President Logan. The show never reached the heights again especially with a disappointing 6th season. However, people crap on 7 and 8 but I think they're great besides some obvious missteps and by-the-numbers 24 moments. 8 in particular I thought was really good toward an end and actually had a more positive ending than LAD.

S5 though deserved all the accolades it got from minute 1 to the last 3 seconds it's at break neck speed.

Very true and also as much as I love the show it's not like they can possibly be running out. I mean every season seems to have some sort of missile as a threat, or a biological weapon or a nuke or a conspiracy. It's not like they can be racking their brains as to what is possibly left.

Truthfully, 24 fills a void in my TV diet that nothing else currently on TV fills, except for Strike Back to a degree, and that's working on its final season now, so it's basically gone too. If there were something else currently carrying the high-octane action TV torch effectively, I'd be all for a true end to 24. But until that something comes along, I'll always be hoping for more Jack Bauer, as long as the creative team is able to at least continue hitting the same level of quality that LAD has managed.

I've enjoyed LAD more than anything since...well...24 left the air. There is just something about 24 that is unmatched. I looked in other places ranging from Person of Interest to Hawaii 5-0 to The Walking Dead, for a similar rush, but nothing else does it. I don't know if it is the story structure/real time aspect, the characters or the acting (or maybe some combination of all three) but nothing gives me a similar rush as this show. I hope it keeps on coming back.

Definitely all 3. There is just nothing like it nor really anything that matches it. The character of Bauer alone elevates it above most other shows in it's genre but then again nothing is quite like 24. Even when it gets into ridiculous territory you know something is gonna happen that pulls you right back in. The real time aspect helps the show greatly, the tension that device provides is sometimes excruciating.

If it does come back for one more ride though, as well as it being a full 24 episode series I would also like something I believe only Season 4 has (only slightly) provided and that would be a continuous villain. One who can really stand toe to toe with Jack. Other than Logan, Nina and Cheng all the other bad guys are quite forgettable. I want one guy who masterminds the whole thing that we see from episode 1.

I think it's the second best show I've ever watched, just behind Seinfeld. I think the great thing the show has done is really made you fall for the characters either over the coarse of the season, or over the coarse of the show. Other shows have done that for me, but they haven't matched what 24 has done. When David Palmer was assassinated in the beginning of season 5, it was like hitting a brick wall. I had to actually gather my thoughts on what had just happened, because you didn't see it coming. They did that again last night with the death of [BLACKOUT]Audrey[/BLACKOUT]. I think it's gonna be hard for anyone to top this show for me.

You're damn right, I couldn't have said it better myself. Especially regarding the ticking clock. No other show makes me antsy over the ending. Like, the final break will happen and it will be like, "4:51" and I will get nervous and be like "Nine minutes left! What can happen!?!? Who is going to die! Blargh! I don't want it to end!" :funny:

I actually prefer it being broken up. I think a continuous villain has potential to get repetitive. How many episodes in season 4 were Jack almost catching Habib Marwan only to have him barely slip away at the last second. I think if they do go continuous villain, they need to be very careful to plan it all out in advance to avoid such ridiculousness.

Bingo. As such, I am content with the writers and Keifer coming back as often as they'd like. They will always be welcome in my living room.

24 was and still is my favorite show of all time. Nothing is more addictive and more rewarding than 24 for me, and i think both the four year gap and the 12 episode format really brought some fire into everyone involved because LAD was better than I could ever imagine it being. I want more, now!

On a side note, I still can't get over President Heller's fate. 24 has done some very cruel things to its characters, Terri's death, Chloe watching Edgar die, Tony losing his wife and unborn child, Jack killing Curtis....24 has put a lot of its characters through the ringer...and yet some how, after 9 years...it found a way to deliver a harsher punch to a beloved character (and the audience) than any before. Heller bitterly embracing his Alzheimer's and forgetting his daughter so he would be spared the pain...ouch. It hurts so much.

For me, 24 is my absolute favorite television show of all time. And I've seen a ton of amazing, truly astonishing shows. To me, 24 trumps The Wire, Breaking Bad, Lost, OZ, Six Feet Under, the first 4 seasons of Dexter, and Nikita. 24 is the first tv show to truly blow me away continuously and and keep me on the edge of my seat nearly every episode. I even remember the exact moment where it became my favorite show of all time: Season 3 when Jack assassinated Chapelle--I.was.freaking. FLOORED. I couldn't believe I was watching a television show; I had never seen a hero, or anti-hero for that matter, go to such lengths to do what needed to be done to save his country.

2nd sniper, the agents never though of that??

That's the first thing I was thinking. Even if it weren't, they were stupid to be just walking around out in the open like that. Nothing was secure in the area, nothing. They should of just kept her down in the bushes until help arrived.

I wish I could go back in time just to go through all those experiences again I had with the show. I actually started watching the show in 2007 when I grabbed season 1 at Wal-Mart. I was instantly hooked. Watched seasons 1-5 in the span of a month. So many memorable moments that are etched in my mind.

What if

There's a Scene of Chloe visiting him in Prison and telling him she needs her help. Hey I can dream who wouldn't want Tony Kate and Chloe teaming up to go rescue Jack

I would so love this to happem. He's my second favorite character behind Jack.

I don't think Tony would do it. Not after Jack deprived him of his vengeance. Plus, I think rescuing Jack would cheapen his sacrifice. Jack gave himself up to protect Chloe and Kim. He doesn't want anyone he loves looking over their shoulders anymore. He doesn't want the shadow over them, that they can be used to get to him. This buys their security. I think if Jack is going to get out, he'd have to help the Russian government and cut a deal. I think that could actually be a fantastic season, that is especially relevant.

The writers used drones this year, which are incredibly relevant on the global political landscape. What else is? Russia. Jack forming an uneasy alliance with them could be outstanding. This is a country that (in the show) just tried to start WWIII for their own advantage. Yuri Suvarov is a character dying to be explored (he is clearly a stand-in for Vladimir Putin and Putin in the 24-verse could be amazing). I think a lot could be done with Jack working for the Russians to earn his freedom.

I trust critic over fans.....I doubt every fan on 24 spoiler are realy fans just haters............Audrey death make sense so she won't suffer any future trauma

Yeah, have to agree. Most 24 fans actually don't care for Audrey because she was kind of bland and always the damsel in distress.

IMO, the most brilliant part of Audrey's death was the way the writers toyed with us. First, they made it seem like she would survive. Then she was shot...but there was a good 30-45 seconds of Kate just sitting by her, applying pressure to the wound, crying, etc. The whole time I was just thinking, "Will there be a silent clock or not!?!?" Haha, after the Heller fakeout, they really did toy with us there and make us wait for that clock.

really, what DID happen to the device?... as far as I recall, it never WAS brought up again at the end... I guess we're supposed to assume it was recovered, but that IS pretty sloppy to have not mentioned it at all...

I totally missed that... guess Audrey's death and Jack turning himself in to the Russians kinda drew my attention away...

or did I miss something, as well?

True. 24 has shown those in charge are not even capable of keeping track of a person that was supposed to be dead and carried out in a body bag at that, only to resurface 2 seasons later.

Eh, I'm leaning to the idea that Tony had something chemically wrong with him. Severe depression or maybe a tumor or something that made him do what he did, and while in prison, he was able to sort it all out. Tony was too good of a character to go out the way he did, and now is the time for the writers to redeem him. And besides, there were rumors that one of the producers was seen having dinner with Carlos Bernard. People were speculating of them working out some sort of an agreement or contract. Would be great if those rumors came true.

I've always liked Audrey... hated they put her in a coma, thank god they fixed that.
