27 years.

You literally sat there, and listened to some song, and started crying? Far fetched.

No it's not, at all, just because you seem to be a very angry young man doesn't mean everyone else is as cold-hearted as you. Some people miss him terribly, even though they never knew him personally he connected with so many that he felt like a friend and a hero to most. Truly a Working Class Hero.

I don't hate John Lennon. I hate jackasses who say dumb **** like this.

^^yes, god forbid someone be emotionally moved by an artists creation.

i almost cried today listening to "all we are saying is give peace a chance". then i ended up at work where i called my boss a jerk for making me work on the anniversary of lennon's death, and he told me to cut my hair, and i said john wouldnt have told me to cut me hair, then he was like "no REALLY you need to cut your hair"....f**king short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of tricky dicky.

All due respect to you and John Lennon, but wow...

well, the banter between me and my manager was friendly ball busting.

but listening to the song, it just sucks thinking about how someone was so devoted to the ideals of peace and love could just be killed off. it's sad.

Well alright then.

Honestly, he's ideals wouldn't be so important or held so high if he hadn't been killed. Sad, but true.

i totally disagree. these ideals were the backbone of the beatles, and were already held in high regard by their fans. and then john took those ideals even further post-beatlews as he devoted his fame to spreading them. the ideals were already held in high regard before his death.

I agree. However, John, on a few occasions, said that The Beatles were the biggest b**tards going. I suppose you can't truly be an advocate for peace until you see the bad in yourself.

I'm not saying he wasn't held high before his death, I'm saying he was held higher than he ever would have been since he died early and because he was killed because of his beliefs. There is much history to prove this with other key figures that were murdered, they are alway put on a pedastle (and some rightfully so) and thier beliefs and actions are without reproach.

Yeah, pretty much.

Also if John Lennon were alive today, there's a decent chance he'd be looked at like Jane Fonda or Sally Struthers. :o

well, john never claimed to be perfect, nor did he expect anyone else to be. nor does his imperfections make his beliefs any less valid. and he had a period where him and paul werent getting along at all, which is likely where the resentful beatles comments came from.

well, its impossible to say how he would have been viewed had he not been killed. all i know is, i believe in john because of his words, and not because he's dead. i think the murder just gives the whole story a dramatic flair which might have an initial attraction to some people.

but you could easily look at someone like bob dylan who's still alive and is arguably held in even higher regard than lennon. same with paul mccartney.

Dylan as an artist, yes. As a humanitarian, no. And, McCartney, no all the way around.

he probably would've left Yoko.

well, dylan never tried to be a humanitarian, so it'd be unfair to judge his accomplishments as one. and im not the biggest post-beatles mccartney fan, but its impossible to ignore the respect he has garnered and continues to garner. but, while he was also always about the peace ad love thing, he was never nearly as active about it as lennon was. but he does continue to to be highly regarded as an artist.

but lennon's message and music generally went hand i hand. and i just think his death has little to do with its impact....it just made the surroundings more dramatic and bittersweet.

I respect your views, we will have to agree to disagree about this.
