Fox is reportedly not happy with Fantastic Four at all. Top executives supposedly think it's "a mess". It's also apparently more of a Chronicle film than an FF film. They're allegedly spending millions of dollars rebuilding sets and prepping massive reshoots.

Just thought the Spidey board should hear this happy, happy news.

I've heard some reports that they'll be lucky if they ever even wind up releasing it.

If they can't land a release, welcome to the MCU Reed Richards!

Are their people even looking forward to this movie? I lost interest when I saw the pics of Doom. Then I heard what was going on with it and just gave up. I generally like FF, and this is just heartbreaking. Especially because it's from a director that made one of my favorite films.

How the hell did Interstellar not receive at least a nomination for the best film?

I don't feel like watching the Oscars this year.

I will be, but mostly just because of Neil Patrick Harris. I really think he could become the "next Bob Hope".

All in all, this years noms weren't too bad, outside of the Selma and LEGO snubs. It wasn't like last year where both Walter Mitty and Saving Mr. Banks got snubbed. I'm still irked about that. :cmad:

Everything is Awesome is now an oscar nominated song. Everything is indeed awesome.

I have no doubt about NPH. He's shown a lot of range in the last year or so.

I'm just really upset about Interstellar. I was so blown away by this film, and thought it's the best film of 2014 without a doubt. I was looking forward to the announcement of the nominations just for that movie.

While those snubs were a head scratcher, at least the "Best Picture" (12 Years A Slave) was still justified. The nominations in that category should be perfect.

Well, to be fair, there were some awesome films nominated this year. Boyhood is a landmark. Still, it's really sad that not a single person of color was nominated in the acting categories.

I think that's just a coincidence, really.

I hope this doesn't come off the wrong way, but they can't consider race in their nominations. Credit has to be given where it's due, and the results should be whatever they are.

Eh, Oyelowo was an enormous oversight though. And DuVernay really deserved that slot for directing Selma.

I'm just glad Oyelowo finally had his breakout role. He's always stood out to me in his smaller roles and I knew he'd wind up a successful leading man at some point.

Most of the people legitimately looking forward to the film for the cast and/or crew have bailed on it after the confirmation that it's pretty similar to Chronicle (a film that is totally wrong as the groundwork for the Fantastic Four). I think it's mostly F.O.X. fans at this point.

It's a shame really. Teller, Mara, Jordan, Bell and Kebbel are all great actors wasted on this mess.

I swear to god, the Academy is allergic to Nolan's films, except Inception. He still didn't get nominated for director though.

I really don't know what their problem is either.

I figured Interstellar would get more love because of McConaughey, but most people think the Academy has something against Sci-Fi films (even though Gravity got a lot of praise).

Interstellar had a lot of detractors though, and yeah, the Academy isn't really keen on sci-fi, and Gravity barely qualifies as that in my eyes.

Detractors? Elaborate if you can.

I wouldn't say Gravity is Sci-Fi either, but that's what it is considered categorically.

Mostly criticism of the editing and pacing, as well as some suspension of disbelief problems. I haven't seen it so I can't voice an opinion just yet. Gravity was one of the best films I've ever seen in my life. Bullock is severely underrated as an actress.

Interstellar did actually have quite a few detractors. IIRC Cracked even did a humor piece about how Nolan films always have polar opposite reception from the most vocal fans and critics. There were also quite a few complaints about the sound mixing. Some theater owners even complained about the audio issues.

Nolan isn't the God of Directing that a lot of fans make him out to be. All three of his Batman films have flaws, some bigger than others. And Begins set a template for reboots that's yielded diminishing returns. He's still one of the very best out there, though.

I thought the editing and pacing was fine. Suspension of disbelief, in my opinion, primarily steps from people who can't wrap their heads around some of the ideas and theories the movie is based on. Besides, there's a reason it is classified as Sci-Fi.

With that being said, Smithsonian and a few other sources have called it one of the most Science-accurate (for the lack of a better term) films that has ever been made. I went in there thinking it'll be another Gravity, but I couldn't have been more wrong.

(Gravity is spectacular in its own right.)
