Spooky Review: I love horror, but not a lot of it really gets under my skin and scares me. This movie legit disturbs me. The last 20 mins are pure terror that I honestly can't remember experiencing.

Spooky Review: Why Vince Vaughn, why? Newton absolutely kills it, but Vaughn decided sexist stereotype was the way to go and it's so inconsistent with the character presented by Newton in the first act of this flick.

Spooky Review: Raimi's horror just gets me. The fun, the pain, the debts to be paid. I'm usually one looking for a happy ending, but Raimi can get me hyped even for the most cruel of endings. My only great regret is, Alison Lohman, where did you go?

13. Sea Fever (Hulu)

We need more Irish horror. And more nautical horror. Which of course go perfectly together. Hermione Corfield makes a great lead (Though Sarah Snook will always be the #1 Siobahn in my book) and the rest of the cast is likable, too. Killer creature design. The direction does great at capturing the beauty & terrifying isolation of the sea, but struggles with maintaining tension. 3.5/5

14. Annabelle: Creation (Hulu)

Never seen any of the Annabelle spinoffs, but my friend wanted to watch one so I chose the only one that I'd heard was any good And it was! Very strong child actors, a great setting and great tension-building from Sandberg in the director's chair carry this one. Genuinely scary, too. And revealing the "true form" of the demon almost never works in movies like this (looking at you, Darth Maul Knockoff from Insidious), but I LOVED the design here. Big Medieval illustration vibes. 4/5

15. Jennifer's Body (Prime)

"Ahead of its time" is overused these days. But it was made for movies like this. Of course, when has queer horror comedy EVER been appreciated upon release? Really great performances all around and one of the only films to ever actually play to Megan Fox's strengths as an actress. Glad I finally saw it so that I can understand the memes. 4.5/5

16. Dead and Buried (Prime)

Followed the Prime recommendations to get to this one and boy am I grateful. Surprised I'd never heard of it before. It definitely feels like its had a lot of influence on subsequent horror. Big Steve King vibes - the haunting coastal setting, the malevolence lurking beneath idyllic small-town Americana, the capital-A ACTING. A great, creepy thriller that definitely deserves more attention as a bonafide classic, IMO. 4/5

17. 28 Days Later (HBOMax)

20 Year Anniversary! The early digital look hasn't aged well, and the innovations Boyle and Garland conceived here have become tropes in the subsequent two decades, but it's still the definitive modern zombie flick for a reason. (Even if it started the trend of refusing to call them that) Great central performances, production design and a killer script ensure it can still be admired even after so many copycats. 4.5/5

18. 28 Weeks Later (HBOMax)

Don't you just hate it when you craft an opening so freaking good the rest of the movie can never hope to catch up? This feels like a prequel that was forced to be a sequel. And while I love "the real monster" narrative they go with, it just feels messy, disjointed and contrived, without the likable characters of the original to carry you along. Not BAD, but still a big step-down from the original. 3/5

@CaptainWagner , I don't know how big you are on "teen" horror, but if you like stuff like Are You Afraid of the Dark? or Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, I'd suggest Annabelle Comes Home. It's my personal favorite, and a lot of fun imo.

Night 28 with a movie i had my eyes on for a while.

Dont Knock Twice

One of the most annoying things about such a movie is the fact that its not really bad...it just misses the spark that makes you interested.
There are a few cool scenes, few neat visuals, the movie does nothing wrong technicly...but it just lacks this one final push that makes me care.

It feels sterile and almost cold somehow, leaving me with little to care how things turn out or even why things are the way they are.
Its a shame because again, the movie doesnt do anything wrong in terms of how the movie is made.
Either the writing or the directing is the problem, because i just dont care for the characters or the plot at the end of this.

My favorite horror movie and one of my all time favorites in general. I watch it every year and no other movie fills me with dread more than this. Not for everyone, but since becoming a father this hits harder than anything for me.

As someone who constantly gets lost in thought that questions humanity and just other weird existentialism, I really love this movie. I try to revisit it frequently as I always come away with a new kind of perspective and reading of the film. There's so many different layers to peel back and look at.

80. LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales

Spooky Review: Not as good as the Life Day special, but still a lot of fun. I feel like what let's this down most of all is the lackluster framing story. But the tales themselves, are the usual adorable LEGO fun.

22. Beetlejuice

Let me tell you going from this


to the movie was a bit of a shock for younger me. And not gonna lie, after seeing how much of a creep Beetlejuice is, it makes the cartoon even more of a questionable move. Still a fun movie, though it has been a while since I've seen, and definitely did not remember him being such a creep.

23.The Blob (1988)

A bit more fast pace than I expected. Some fun in the makeup for the kills. Though, there is something funny about turning the Blob into the ooze river from Ghostbusters 2. The final battle in the town gets especially silly. Weird movie.

Every time...every time i find myself getting hyped for this movie but then notice that outside of a cool killer and a few effects, the thing is bland and dumb.

Laid To Rest

All few months i find myself getting lured in by the cool cover of this movie and Chromeskulls look.
And all few months i get pissed at the movie for having absolutely idiotic characters, boring direction and a writing that feels like they knew they had nothing but the killer and effects.
The movie has potential, but throws it all away constantly.
Every cool idea is ruined by dumb characters doing stupid things, by direction that fails at doing anything with the momentum.

Like dont get me wrong, if you dont expect much...this can be fun.
But i constantly expect more and get angry that it doesnt deliver that.

If you want something similar that does more with its ideas, go with "The Collector".

Don't Breathe (2016)
I really dig this movie for the first half. The idea is pretty cool, and the execution is pretty good for the for a good chunk of the film. You're constantly tense like the characters. Then we get to the basement reveal, and all of sudden we just completely fall off the rails, and the movie just feels never ending, which isn't good considering it's just shy of 90 minutes.

Basically a shot-for-shot remake of the classic original, I would question the necessity of the new Terror Train's existence were it not so damn entertaining...

The movie feels like it could have been made 40 years ago, and I mean that as a compliment. Being a product of 2022, the film is naturally a tad more 'meta' and 'woke' than the original, but that's only to be expected...

I really appreciated how old school it is, and how much it plays everything straight. And changing the 'event' on the titular train from New Year's Eve to Halloween was an inspired choice, as it allows for even more mistaken identity shenanigans, while simultaneously allowing the killer to literally hide in plain sight. Satisfying to the extreme.

Fun Fact: the actor who plays head fratboy *****ebag "Doc" is the spitting image of actor Robert Romanus, who played *****ebag "Mike Damone" in the classic Fast Times at Ridgemont High. I even felt compelled to check Wiki to see if they were related.

They aren't.

84. Fear Street Part One: 1994

Spooky Review: The pure gay 90s captured on probably digital cameras. The movie has some weird pacing issues, probably do to it being more of the first two acts of something as opposed to it's own story, but that doesn't keep it from being a fun gay time. Did I mention it was gay? Because it's so gay.

Spooky Review: The performances, the music, the mood. This one just bleeds 80s slasher, without ever having to be. Stevens plays a murdering psychopath that you can actually sympathize with thanks to a bit of social commentary on the US military.
